HaBO: Harlequin Presents Set in Australia

This HaBO comes from Elizabeth, who wants to locate this romance:

I’m looking for a Harlequin Presents, enemies to lovers romance that is set in Australia.

The heroine is engaged to a guy her whole family hates, and she eventually dumps him when it becomes clear he’s a jerk. I feel like the scene where she realizes she can’t marry her fiance is set on a yacht. Meanwhile, the hero is visiting the heroine’s brother, and convinces her that she should just marry him on the originally scheduled wedding day. I think this scene happens while they are swimming.

There is a scene where the main couple visit the hospital and her dad bluntly asks her if she is sure she wants to do this. I think they honeymoon in Mexico and Vegas.

It’s driving me crazy that I can’t remember this book!

Let’s HaBO!

I don’t know this specific plot, but if you’re looking for a Harlequin Presents written in Australia involving yachts (and usually Greek billionaires), start with authors like Emma Darcy, Miranda Lee or Helen Bianchin. Was it recent or early 2000s? Or, gasp, earlier than that? No wait, if it was earlier than 2000s, it would be set in the Outback, not on a yacht. Sydney or the Outback, those are the only options.

I can’t remember the name of a book I read yesterday, but I can tell you in some detail about the first Helen Bianchin book I read (who was my gateway to Lynne Graham and OH BOY that’s a core teenage memory).

Following because I haven’t read an HP in a while!

I read so many HPs, I’m not sure I could identify this one. Check Clare Connelly’s and Jackie Ashenden’s backlists. Connelly is Australian and wrote a number of HP-manques before she joined the HP fold. Ashenden lives in New Zealand but has set some of her HPs in Australia, iirc. Caitlin Crews, the queen of angsty HP heartache, also has a couple of Australia-set books (although I’m possibly conflating her HPs with books she wrote for the short-lived Harlequin Dare line). TL;DR: I love HPs, but the plot points do tend to blur together. Unless someone knows this book right away, you’ve got your work cut out for you to find it.

It’s been too many years since I’ve read it, but I wonder if Outback Wedding Takeover by Emma Darcy fits.

  5. Fiona says:

If it’s older something from Emma Darcy or Miranda Lee might fit. They set quite a few books in and around Sydney. Lindsay Armstrong tended to write about Brisbane and surroundings. The Wedding from ED comes to mind but doesn’t fit exactly.
