  • The Road Trip

The Road Trip by Beth O'Leary

The Road Trip by Beth O’Leary is $1.99! This is a contemporary romance where a woman inadvertently goes on a road trip with her ex to a mutual friend’s wedding. For the most part, O’Leary’s books are well reviewed or at least spark some conversation.

Two exes reach a new level of awkward when forced to take a road trip together in this endearing and humorous novel by the author of the international bestseller The Flatshare.

What if the end of the road is just the beginning?

Four years ago, Dylan and Addie fell in love under the Provence sun. Wealthy Oxford student Dylan was staying at his friend Cherry’s enormous French villa; wild child Addie was spending her summer as the on-site caretaker. Two years ago, their relationship officially ended. They haven’t spoken since.

Today, Dylan’s and Addie’s lives collide again. It’s the day before Cherry’s wedding, and Addie and Dylan crash cars at the start of the journey there. The car Dylan was driving is wrecked, and the wedding is in rural Scotland–he’ll never get there on time by public transport.

So, along with Dylan’s best friend, Addie’s sister, and a random guy on Facebook who needed a ride, they squeeze into a space-challenged Mini and set off across Britain. Cramped into the same space, Dylan and Addie are forced to confront the choices they made that tore them apart–and ask themselves whether that final decision was the right one after all.

  • That Scandalous Summer

That Scandalous Summer by Meredith Duran

That Scandalous Summer by Meredith Duran is $1.99! This is the first book in the Rules for the Reckless series and has a marriage of convenience element. Readers had a hard time liking the heroine, but others say this is a series that just keeps getting better and better.

    One Daring Widow

In the social whirl of Regency England, Elizabeth Chudderley is at the top of every guest list, the life of every party, and the belle of every ball. But her friends and admirers would be stunned to know the truth: that the merriest widow in London is also the loneliest. Behind the gaiety and smiles lies a secret longing—for something, or someone, to whisk her away…

    One Reluctant Suitor

Raised in scandal, Lord Michael de Grey is convinced that love is a losing gamble—and seduction the only game worth playing. But when duty threatens to trump everything he desires, the only way out is marriage to a woman of his brother’s choosing. Elizabeth Chudderley is delightful, delicious—and distressingly attractive. With such a captivating opponent, Michael isn’t quite sure who is winning the game. How can such passionate players negotiate a marriage of necessity— when their hearts have needs of their own?

  • How to Be a Wallflower

How to Be a Wallflower by Eloisa James

How to Be a Wallflower by Eloisa James is $1.99! This is book one in the Would-Be Wallflowers series. I’m a little confused about the description. The heroine mentions wanting to buy costumes, but the hero makes it seem that the heroine bought the actual shop. Did any of you read this one?

From New York Times bestseller Eloisa James, a new Regency-set novel in which a heiress with the goal of being a wallflower engages a rugged American in a scorchingly sensual, witty wager that tests whether clothing does indeed make the man—or the wallflower!

Miss Cleopatra Lewis is about to be launched in society by her aristocratic grandfather. But since she has no intention of marrying, she visits a costume emporium specifically to order unflattering dresses guaranteed to put off any prospective suitors.

Powerful and charismatic Jacob Astor Addison is in London, acquiring businesses to add to his theatrical holdings in America—as well as buying an emerald for a young lady back in Boston. He’s furious when a she-devil masquerading as an English lady steals Quimby’s Costume Emporium from under his nose.

Jake strikes a devil’s bargain, offering to design her “wallflower wardrobe” and giving Cleo the chance to design his. Cleo can’t resist the fun of clothing the rough-hewn American in feathers and flowers. And somehow in the middle of their lively competition, Jake becomes her closest friend.

It isn’t until Cleo becomes the toast of all society that Jake realizes she’s stolen his fiercely guarded heart. But unlike the noblemen at her feet, he doesn’t belong in her refined and cultured world.

Caught between the demands of honor and desire, Jake would give up everything to be with the woman he loves—if she’ll have him!

  1. Susan Sewell says:

I’ve read and enjoyed the Eloise James book. I hope to read more in the series. The bet is for each designing the wardrobe for the other. It is hilarious and sparks fly, of course Later the whole shop gets bought, not telling any more twists that get to that.

I’m only seeing Book 2 of the Jess Anastasi series – The Lost Stars – available as a paperback on US Amazon. Could you provide a link to the Kindle version please? Would love to use an affiliate link for it.

Ditto on looking for sci-fi romance, but also, standalone in a series romance. For some reason, I’m not really in the mood for a romance that takes 4-6 books and then has obstacles thrown their way for another 4+ books. Attention span too short, I guess.

I really liked That Scandalous Summer for its very honest depiction of alcoholism/substance abuse in a historical setting–and with a FMC. Meredith Duran does not miss.

  8. Deborah says:

WEDDED TO THE WANTON WITCH, a “gaslamp fantasy romance” (yeah, I had no idea what that was before reading Prater’s Fae Tricksters series) by S.L. Prater, popped up FREE on Amazon.

This is the third book in the series (and my favorite). It’s not necessary to have read the duology that precedes it (Court of Tricksters and King of Tricksters), though I suspect that the kick-ass heroine of those books might be more appealing to the Bitchery.
