Strange Practice
Strange Practice by Vivian Shaw is $2.99! Readers love the heroine, who is described a “fast-talking doctor to the undead.” The next book in the series is also on sale.
Meet Greta Helsing, fast-talking doctor to the undead. Keeping the supernatural community not-alive and well in London has been her family’s specialty for generations.
Greta Helsing inherited the family’s highly specialized, and highly peculiar, medical practice. In her consulting rooms, Dr. Helsing treats the undead for a host of ills – vocal strain in banshees, arthritis in barrow-wights, and entropy in mummies. Although barely making ends meet, this is just the quiet, supernatural-adjacent life Greta’s been groomed for since childhood.
Until a sect of murderous monks emerges, killing human and undead Londoners alike. As terror takes hold of the city, Greta must use her unusual skills to stop the cult if she hopes to save her practice, and her life.

Mickey Chambers Shakes It Up
Mickey Chambers Shakes It Up by Charish Reid is $2.99! This was mentioned on Get Rec’d, after a friend staff picked it at the bookstore where I worked. I remember my mom and stepdad honeymooned in the Poconos and their resort had big martini glass bathtubs. That’s what this cover reminds me of.
“A heartfelt opposites-attract romance…” — Publishers Weekly
Total opposites. Totally irresistible.
Mickey Chambers is an expert at analyzing modern literature. But when it comes to figuring out her own story, she’s feeling a little lost. At thirty-three, she’s an adjunct instructor with a meager summer class schedule and too many medical bills, courtesy of her chronic illness. Picking up a bartending gig seems perfect. Sure, Mickey’s never done this before, but the gorgeous, grumpy bar owner, Diego Acosta, might be the perfect man to teach the teacher…if he wasn’t so stressed.
Diego is worried he’s running his late wife’s bar into the ground. Add the pressures of returning to college part-time at forty-two, and it’s no wonder he’s making rash decisions. Like hiring the sunny, sexy woman who looks more at home in a library than slinging beers to rowdy barflies, and who turns out to be teaching his online writing course, a complication neither was expecting…
It’s not long before Mickey starts reenergizing The Saloon with cocktails, karaoke and an optimism even Diego can’t ignore. They need to fight their feelings if they want to keep things professional, but all it takes is one sip, one kiss, to shake both their worlds forever…

I Hate You More
I Hate You More by Lucy Gilmore is $1.99! This is an enemies to lovers romance and has some pretty good dogs. I know Gilmore’s books have been recommended in the comments previously and the Bitchery generally has positive thoughts.
An unforgettably funny enemies-to-lovers romcom about a grumpy dog show judge, a determined former beauty queen, and a Golden Retriever more interested in stealing bacon than winning Best in Show.
Ruby Taylor gave up pageant life the day she turned eighteen and figured she’d never look back. But when an old friend begs her to show her beloved Golden Retriever at the upcoming West Coast Canine Classic, Ruby reluctantly straps on her heels and gets to work.
If only she knew exactly what the adorably lazy lump of a dog was getting her into.
If there’s one thing veterinarian Spencer Wilson knows in this world, it’s dogs. Human beings are an entirely different animal—especially stubborn, gorgeous women clearly in way over their heads. As judge for the local dog show, Spencer advises Ruby to quit while she still can, but her old fervor for winning has returned—and she’s determined to show the stern, broody-eyed judge that she’s more than just a pretty face.

The Locker Room
The Locker Room by Meghan Quinn is 99c at Amazon! This is a new adult sports romance and I have a few of Quinn’s sports titles on my TBR, though haven’t read them. If you have, what did you think? Is this a good place to start?
Have you heard the rumor around campus about the locker room?
If you haven’t, let me enlighten you: Legend has it if you bring a girl into the sacred after-game domain of the baseball locker room, it will end with a walk down the aisle. One rowdy and naked encounter against the lockers with the girl of your dreams will make her your wife.
Translation: baseball players are stupidly superstitious and believe the locker room has magical powers.
But not all baseball players are superstitious, me included.
So when the girl I’ve fallen for brushes me off, I start to question if I need to switch my way of thinking. Maybe it’s time I finally hand out a coveted invitation to the locker room.
The only question is, will she accept?

Strange Practice was really good! But her other books in the series are major clunkers. IMHO of course.
All the thumbs up for STRAGE PRACTICE. Aside from the great characters and the superb world building there are baby ghouls. BABY GHOULS!!
I disagree with JoJo about the quality of books 2, 3 & novella #4 in the Greta Helsing series. I adore them all. The tone is horror/Cozy. Shaw’s Vampires & other supernaturals are three dimensional characters, complete with family problems and anxiety disorders. Lots of competence pron from the unflappable Dr. Helsing. Lots of Easter egg shout-outs to M.R. James & the clunky origins of Vampire/Vampyre fiction. There’s a wee, tiny bit of romance in books 2 & 3. Highly recommended!
$.99:
– Ashes of You: A Small Town Single Dad Romance (The Lost & Found Series Book 5) by Catherine Cowles
$1.99:
– Ready Player Two: A Novel (Ready Player One Book 2) by Ernest Cline
Free:
– Sword-Crossed Lovers (Those Wild Whitbys Book 1) by Gemma Blackwood
I couldn’t get through Strange Practice because of the horror aspect.
My only problem with the Strange Practice series is that there aren’t more of them.
There’s one more in the Strange Practice series coming next spring! The title is Strange New World and it’s on the schedule for May 2025.
Libby had Strange Practice with no wait, so I’ll see if I can handle the horror level. Thanks!
I’m not big on horror either and LOVED Strange Practice. Maybe because it’s “cozy” (good call @AI R-B).
Add another recommendation for the Helsing series. I loved the care and respect with which Greta treated her patients, especially the baby ghouls. Horror is something I usually avoid, but these books never felt like horror.
Free:
– Taming the Troublemaker (The Hills of Texas Book 3) by Kadie Scott
– Challenge (Harris Brothers Book 1) by Amy Daws
– The Cowboy and the Doctor (The Gallaghers of Montana 4) by Eve Gaddy
$.99:
– The Blooming of Bud (Mulligan’s Mill Book 2) by Robin Knight
– Mercury Striking (The Scorpius Syndrome Book 1) by Rebecca Zanetti
– Hopelessly Romantic (A Heartwarming and Humorous Romance) (Ocean Shores Book 1) by Barbara Freethy
I absolutely ADORE the Strange Practice series; I bought all 3 books in hardcover, and it’s been my annual Halloween-season reread over the past couple of years. Squeed so hard when I saw there was a recently released novella (“Bitter Waters”) on Kindle, which I paid full price for, and I NEVER do that! As others have said, it’s not really “horror”, maybe more urban fantasy, but with vampires and werewolves and OMG the hairmonsters (IYKYK) … They are definitely a cozy, comfy read for me, and the romance is very sweet.
