HaBO: Dual Timeline Renovation Romance

This HaBO comes from Maria, who wants to find this romance:

Hello! I’ve read this book many years ago, I remember loving it but sadly I can’t for the love of me remember its title! (I’ve also posted this over some other groups, so fear not, you’re not seeing double)

This is a mix between historical and modern, (kinda time travely) about a family who had been rivals for years and both main characters work in construction and they hate each other because of their families’ history. The book takes place between historical (flashback) and modern times with the construction taking place, some house renovation. There’s a rock or a necklace that connects everything (the families, timeline, etc) and it’s crucial to the plot.

Please, if you have any clue or if anything rings a bell, let me know….

Can we HaBO?

  1. Venetia says:

My first thought was The Calhoun Women series by Nora Roberts. Doesn’t quite fit but there’s certainly rivalry and construction and flashbacks and an emerald necklace.

  2. Meg says:

I know I read this one, but I didn’t start recording quick plot summaries in my log until 2019, and I’m pretty sure it’s older than that. The only thing about construction I’m finding in my list is The One That Got Away by Bethany Chase. (which looks good – maybe time for a reread!)

I’m with Venetia, this is the first thing I thought of. As per usual with a Nora Roberts series, it’s multiple books that got smushed into a couple of omnibus editions. The editions I remember (my library had them and they were pretty constantly in circulation) each had a big emerald necklace on the cover. Book one is called Courting Catherine.

Reminds me of a Karen White book, too. Maybe in the Tradd Street series?

  5. LJO says:

Is it one of the “From Hell” Books by RL Mathewson?

  6. CrankyBeach says:

I couldn’t swear to reading the book you describe, but I’ve read a few by Susanna Kearsley. Some of her stories, if I recall correctly,do jump back and forth between the past and the present. Certainly worth a look, if nothing else.
