Miss Aldridge Regrets
RECOMMENDED: Miss Aldridge Regrets by Louise Hare is $1.99! Thanks to everyone who let us know about this deal. Carrie reviewed this one and gave it a B:
Ultimately this mystery is weak on the actual mystery front. However, the description of an entertainer’s life in Soho and a passenger’s life on the Queen Mary is fascinating, and while Lena is an interesting person who always seems to be either doing or listening to or watching interesting things. On those levels, I really liked this book, and recommend it for fans of that time period.
A nightclub singer with more than one secret hastily leaves London on The Queen Mary after her best friend’s husband is murdered…only to discover that death has followed her onboard, in this thrilling locked-room mystery.
London, 1936. Lena Aldridge is wondering if life has passed her by. The dazzling theatre career she hoped for hasn’t worked out. Instead, she’s stuck singing in a sticky-floored basement club in Soho, and her married lover has just dumped her.
But Lena has always had a complicated life, one shrouded in mystery as a mixed-race girl passing for white in a city unforgiving of her true racial heritage. She has nothing to look forward to—until a stranger offers her the chance of a lifetime: a starring role on Broadway and a first-class ticket on the Queen Mary bound for New York.
After a murder at the club, the timing couldn’t be better, and Lena jumps at the chance to escape England. But when a fellow passenger is killed in a strikingly familiar way, Lena realizes that her greatest performance won’t be for an audience, but for her life.

Kill the Farm Boy
Kill the Farm Boy by Kevin Hearne and Delilah S. Dawson is $1.99! Readers say that this is a light-hearted, slightly goofy book a la Terry Pratchett, but some found it tried too hard in its silliness. There are currently three books out in the series and I wonder if this is a series that finds its footing as it progresses.
In an irreverent new series in the tradition of Terry Pratchett novels and The Princess Bride, the New York Times bestselling authors of the Iron Druid Chronicles and Star Wars: Phasmareinvent fantasy, fairy tales, and floridly written feast scenes.
Once upon a time, in a faraway kingdom, a hero, the Chosen One, was born . . . and so begins every fairy tale ever told.
This is not that fairy tale.
There is a Chosen One, but he is unlike any One who has ever been Chosened.
And there is a faraway kingdom, but you have never been to a magical world quite like the land of Pell.
There, a plucky farm boy will find more than he’s bargained for on his quest to awaken the sleeping princess in her cursed tower. First there’s the Dark Lord who wishes for the boy’s untimely death . . . and also very fine cheese. Then there’s a bard without a song in her heart but with a very adorable and fuzzy tail, an assassin who fears not the night but is terrified of chickens, and a mighty fighter more frightened of her sword than of her chain-mail bikini. This journey will lead to sinister umlauts, a trash-talking goat, the Dread Necromancer Steve, and a strange and wondrous journey to the most peculiar “happily ever after” that ever once-upon-a-timed.

Handle with Care
Handle with Care by Helena Hunting is $2.99! This is part of the Shacking Up series and features the hero getting a makeover. Have any of you read this one or the series?
HE WANTS TO LOSE CONTROL.
Between his parents’ messed up marriage and his narcissistic younger brother, Lincoln Moorehead has spent the majority of his life avoiding his family. After the death of his father, Lincoln finds himself in the middle of the drama. To top it all off, he’s been named CEO of Moorehead Media, much to his brother’s chagrin. But Lincoln’s bad attitude softens when he meets the no-nonsense, gorgeous woman who has been given the task of transforming him from the gruff, wilderness guy to a suave businessman
SHE’S TRYING TO HOLD IT TOGETHER.
Wren Sterling has been working double time to keep the indiscretions at Moorehead Media at bay, so when she’s presented with a new contract, with new responsibilities and additional incentives, she agrees. Working with the reclusive oldest son of a ridiculously entitled family is worth the hassle if it means she’s that much closer to pursuing her own dreams. What Wren doesn’t expect is to find herself attracted to him, or for it to be mutual. And she certainly doesn’t expect to fall for Lincoln. But when a shocking new Moorehead scandal comes to light, she’s forced to choose between her own family and the broody, cynical CEO.

The Hunter
The Hunter by Kerrigan Byrne is $2.99! This is book two in the Victorian Rebels series and book one was favorably reviewed. The series is pretty crazysauce from what I remember.
They’re rebels, scoundrels, and blackguards—dark, dashing men on the wrong side of the law. But for the proper Victorian-era ladies who love them, a hint of danger only makes their hearts beat faster…
A scandalous proposal.
As one of London’t most elite hunters, Christopher Argent never misses his mark and always gets his man. But when his latest target turns out to be a woman—the popular, and stunningly beautiful, actress Millie LeCour—it turns his whole world upside-down. Overwhelmed by the heat that simmers between them, Christopher can’t complete his mission. On the contrary, he’ll do anything to save Millie’s life—even if it means risking his own…
A dangerous passion…
When she learns what Christopher was hired to do, Millie is torn between the fear in her heart and the fire in her soul. Putting herself in this dangerous man’s arms may be her only path to safety—but giving in to her desire may be the deadliest mistake she’s ever made. With both of their lives in jeopardy, Millie and Christopher must learn to trust the real feelings they’re hiding—to find the true love they’re looking for…

Liar City: A Novel (Sugar & Vice Book 1) by Allie Therin is $1.99. I haven’t read it yet, but I enjoyed the sample and I really liked her other series (Magic in Manhattan) and its spin-off.
@Michele in Floyd, I really enjoyed Liar City. I’ve read quite a few mysteries featuring psychics but not an empath. I can’t wait to get my greedy little hands on the next book.
I snatched up Liar City this morning when I saw it was on sale. I’ve been waiting for it to go on sale since reading a really great review of it on Joyfully Jay.
“The series is pretty crazysauce from what I remember”…but it’s such good crazysauce!! I totally just reread the whole series, need to get my hands on the newest novella The Earl on the Train.
