  • The Hollow Places

The Hollow Places by T. Kingfisher

The Hollow Places by T. Kingfisher is $1.99! I’ve enjoyed Kingfisher’s first horror novel, The Twisted Ones. If you want something spooky but is light on graphic or sexual violence, it’s worth a try. I haven’t checked out this one just yet, though it is on my radar.

A young woman discovers a strange portal in her uncle’s house, leading to madness and terror in this gripping new novel.

    Pray they are hungry.

Kara finds these words in the mysterious bunker that she’s discovered behind a hole in the wall of her uncle’s house. Freshly divorced and living back at home, Kara now becomes obsessed with these cryptic words and starts exploring the peculiar bunker—only to discover that it holds portals to countless alternate realities. But these places are haunted by creatures that seem to hear thoughts…and the more you fear them, the stronger they become.

  • All the Feels

All the Feels by Olivia Dade

All the Feels by Olivia Dade is $1.99 and a Kindle Daily Deal! This is a contemporary romance and the second book in the Spoiler Alert series. It was also just recommended by Shana in our recent Rec League on Book-Long Grovels. This one was just on sale, but if you missed it, here’s another chance!

Following Spoiler Alert, Olivia Dade returns with another utterly charming romantic comedy about a devil-may-care actor—who actually cares more than anyone knows—and the no-nonsense woman hired to keep him in line.

Alexander Woodroe has it all. Charm. Sex appeal. Wealth. Fame. A starring role as Cupid on TV’s biggest show, God of the Gates. But the showrunners have wrecked his character, he’s dogged by old demons, and his post-show future remains uncertain. When all that reckless emotion explodes into a bar fight, the tabloids and public agree: his star is falling.

Enter Lauren Clegg, the former ER therapist hired to keep him in line. Compared to her previous work, watching over handsome but impulsive Alex shouldn’t be especially difficult. But the more time they spend together, the harder it gets to keep her professional remove and her heart intact, especially when she discovers the reasons behind his recklessness…not to mention his Cupid fanfiction habit.

When another scandal lands Alex in major hot water and costs Lauren her job, she’ll have to choose between protecting him and offering him what he really wants—her. But he’s determined to keep his improbably short, impossibly stubborn, and extremely endearing minder in his life any way he can. And on a road trip up the California coast together, he intends to show her exactly what a falling star will do to catch the woman he loves: anything at all.

  • Kiss My Cupcake

Kiss My Cupcake by Helena Hunting

Kiss My Cupcake by Helena Hunting is $2.99! This is a standalone contemporary romance with two rival small business owners. I’d say it definitely has an opposites attract element. Have you read this one?

As two neighborhood shop owners battle for business, they prove opposites attract in this outrageously funny romantic comedy from the USA Today bestselling author of Meet Cute.

Blaire Calloway has planned every Instagram-worthy moment of her cupcake and cocktails shop launch down to the tiniest detail. What she didn’t plan on? Ronan Knight and his old-school sports bar next door opening on the very same day. He may be super swoony, but Blaire hasn’t spent years obsessing over buttercream and bourbon to have him ruin her chance at success.

From axe throwing (his place) to frosting contests (hers), Blaire and Ronan are constantly trying to one-up each other in a battle to win new customers. But with every clash, there’s also an undeniable chemistry. When an even bigger threat to their business comes to town, they’re forced to call a temporary time-out on their own war and work together. And the more time Blaire spends getting to know the real Ronan, the more she wonders if it’s possible to have her cupcake and eat it too.

  • The Drafter

    The Drafter by Kim Harrison

The Drafter by Kim Harrison is $1.99! This is book one in the Peri Reed Chronicles, which is sort of a futuristic suspense novel with a building romance. I thought this one was okay, as I was overwhelmed by a lot of the world building details. You can peep my Lightning Review here.

Detroit 2030. Double-crossed by the person she loved and betrayed by the covert government organization that trained her to use her body as a weapon, Peri Reed is a renegade on the run.

Don’t forgive and never forget has always been Peri’s creed. But her day job makes it difficult: she is a drafter, possessed of a rare, invaluable skill for altering time, yet destined to forget both the history she changed and the history she rewrote.

When Peri discovers her name on a list of corrupt operatives, she realizes that her own life has been manipulated by the agency. She joins forces with a mysterious rogue soldier in a deadly race to piece together the truth about her final task, unable to trust even herself.

  1. Barbara says:

Regarding KISS MY CUPCAKE: I really enjoyed the first 75-80% (yummy cupcakes) and then the hero turns into a serious, serious idiot. There is not remotely enough grovelling to atone for his idiocy. I still get mad thinking about it.

  2. MirandaB says:

The Hollow Places was good but scary in that Kingfisher kind of a way.

  3. Todd says:

I’ve discovered that horror is no longer on my reading list. The earlier Kingfisher, The Twisted Ones, I found truly frightening and assume this would have the same effect.

All the Feels I can recommend – I’ve read the three of her stories about the actors on the show and have enjoyed all of them.

  4. FashionablyEvil says:

Straight up horror is not usually my jam, but I trust T. Kingfisher and THE HOLLOW PLACES did not disappoint. The book is unsettling and creepy (I kept trying to read it at bedtime which was a mistake), but still quirky and funny.

  5. Musical Trees says:

I loved ALL THE FEELS. That said, Alex is a lot. His impulsiveness is just not something I’ve ever had to deal with, but I felt that by the end of the book I understood how his brain worked better than when I started.

  6. Taylor says:

Thirding the A+! Charles is great at providing updates on her characters in later books; I bet we get a little more about their HEA in the next book set in this world.
