This HaBO comes from Nikki, who wants to track down this romance:
I’ve been obsessed with one book whose title or author I can’t remember! So hopefully you can all help me!
It’s a historical romance. The heroine is approached for a marriage of convenience. They elope, but her father does not give her dowry. They go to a property in shambles (spent the first night sharing a blanket in the cold somewhere). He starts horse breeding and slowly they build a business and fall in love. She leaves him because she thinks he cheats on her and he comes back to find her at her parents’ place, during a ball I think. She is pregnant.
Her name might be Amelia – but I might be wrong as well.
Can we HaBO?
No idea, possibly Diana Palmer of Catherine Anderson
I feel like this is on the top of my tongue! It has the scent of an old Anne Stuart maybe? Do they end up in his ramshackle family home breeding horses and children (like 10 of them)? She’s pregnant again at the end of the book, and he asks if it’s/he’s finally too much. Wish I could pull this from the depths of my estrogen deprived brain.
This definitely sounds like One Dance with a Duke by Tessa Dare – one of her earlier books I believe. Hero is a horse breeder, heroine’s name is Amelia
This sounds very much like One Dance with a Duke with a Duke, but a few details are off. But as the previous commenter said, the heroine is definitely named Amelia, and the hero is definitely a horse breeder, though he was one at the start of the book, and they don’t elope.
Agree about Tessa Dare’s ONE DANCE WITH A DUKE. It’s the first book in her Stud Club series (studs as in horses).
Now I need to reread ONE DANCE WITH A DUKE. And nobody will ever top the promo video Tessa Dare made for the series. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4DzoNkomQ0
Oh, @Karin, you made my week with that link!
Yes! Thank you @Karin! I’ve never read the series, but now having watched that fabulous promo, I can’t wait to. That was truly the best. We may have drifted off topic (that’s never happened before, right?) but I can’t help but think Tessa Dare will (rightfully) be the true winner of this HABO!
Thank you all for your suggestions. Not
one dance by Tessa fare though – they do elope! I think I had Amelia in mind because of Dare’s book, but it’s not it! Please suggest more!
Not all of the details line up, but Eyes of Silver, Eyes of Gold by Ellen O’Connell hits some of the points.
Amelia Hathaway, maybe? I just started Lisa Kleypas’s “Mine Til Midnight”.♀️
Dear all,
none of your suggestions match – and thank you for having contributing them!
the seting is british!
Nikki
Nikki, How long ago did you read this? An older book you read a few years ago, or decades ago?
Dear Lisa, 10 years ago more or less, so not a recent book!
maybe Michael for the male character’s name?
Thank you all again for your suggestions and thoughts
