The Duke Who Loved Me
The Duke Who Loved Me by Jane Ashford is $1.99! This is book one in The Duke’s Estates historical romance series. Catherine read this one and gave it a D+, so maybe peruse the review first.
The Duke of Tereford is accustomed to getting his own way, but she’s going to teach him a thing or two about love…
James Cantrell, the new Duke of Tereford, has inherited a dukedom in disarray and is overwhelmed by his unaccustomed responsibilities. Then he gets an idea. Cecelia Vainsmede served as liaison between James and her father, and she knows a great deal about business matters, his own in particular. She’s also quite pretty. Ever the pragmatist, he suggests a marriage of convenience.
Cecelia has always been good at working with James, but she doesn’t understand how he can be so obtuse. He clearly doesn’t realize that he’s the duke she’s always wished for, or that his offer is an insult. But when a German prince arrives in London and immediately sets out to woo Cecelia, James will have to come to terms with what he really feels for her. Is running away worth the cost of losing her, or will the duke dare to win her once and for all?
Bestselling author Jane Ashford takes you to a dazzling Regency England you won’t want to leave!

An Unkindness of Magicians
RECOMMENDED: An Unkindness of Magicians by Kat Howard is $1.99! I would recommended this if you’re in a “burn it all down” mood. The book is violent, graphic, and the characters experience racism, sexism, and the like. But the main character is a witch who essentially wants to dismantle the ruling magic party because they’re terrible. I loved this one.
There is a dark secret that is hiding at the heart of New York City and diminishing the city’s magicians’ power in this fantasy thriller by acclaimed author Kat Howard.
In New York City, magic controls everything. But the power of magic is fading. No one knows what is happening, except for Sydney—a new, rare magician with incredible power that has been unmatched in decades, and she may be the only person who is able to stop the darkness that is weakening the magic. But Sydney doesn’t want to help the system, she wants to destroy it.
Sydney comes from the House of Shadows, which controls the magic with the help of sacrifices from magicians.

Truthwitch
Truthwitch by Susan Dennard is $3.99! This is the first book in the The Witchlands series and it’s YA fantasy with some romantic elements in later books (not sure if there is any in this first installment). This series has been on my TBR pile for a long time, but it keeps getting passed over for other things.
On a continent ruled by three empires, some are born with a “witchery”, a magical skill that sets them apart from others.
In the Witchlands, there are almost as many types of magic as there are ways to get in trouble—as two desperate young women know all too well.
Safiya is a Truthwitch, able to discern truth from lie. It’s a powerful magic that many would kill to have on their side, especially amongst the nobility to which Safi was born. So Safi must keep her gift hidden, lest she be used as a pawn in the struggle between empires.
Iseult, a Threadwitch, can see the invisible ties that bind and entangle the lives around her—but she cannot see the bonds that touch her own heart. Her unlikely friendship with Safi has taken her from life as an outcast into one of reckless adventure, where she is a cool, wary balance to Safi’s hotheaded impulsiveness.
Safi and Iseult just want to be free to live their own lives, but war is coming to the Witchlands. With the help of the cunning Prince Merik (a Windwitch and ship’s captain) and the hindrance of a Bloodwitch bent on revenge, the friends must fight emperors, princes, and mercenaries alike, who will stop at nothing to get their hands on a Truthwitch.

An Unkindness of Magicians is all that and a bag of chips. I found it wholely satisfying in the big bad gets a spanking kind of way. I’m on the wait list for book two.
The Rivals of Casper Road by Roan Parrish is $1.99, I think today only. Haven’t read it yet but just bought it.
I believe this cozy fantasy was recently mentioned here in the contents; it’s on sale for 99¢ for US Kindle readers. I bought it yesterday and enjoyed it.

Hot Mess by Misha Horne is free this week – all vibes, no plot mm romance with a lot of pining and sexy spanking.
I enjoyed Fake it Till You Bake it.
I liked Fake it Til You Bake It too; it had some great, memorable characters.
It’s interesting. I agree with everything Catherine wrote about The Duke Who Loved Me, yet I enjoyed it and subsequent books in the series. There are glimpses of James and Cecelia as the series progresses. She was happy and he continued to improve. Slowly.
