  • The Devil of Downtown

The Devil of Downtown by Joanna Shupe

The Devil of Downtown by Joanna Shupe is $1.99! My main gripe with this series is that the three sisters have an awful, sexist dad. The books kind of overlap in terms of a timeline, so you get to experience the dad in all of his shittiness three times around.

The final novel in Joanna Shupe’s critically acclaimed Uptown Girl series about a beautiful do-gooder who must decide if she can team up with one of New York’s brashest criminals without losing something irreplaceable: her heart.

    Manhattan kingpin.
    Brilliant mastermind.
    Gentleman gangster.

    He’s built a wall around his heart…

Orphaned and abandoned on the Bowery’s mean streets, Jack Mulligan survived on strength, cunning, and ambition. Now he rules his territory better than any politician or copper ever could. He didn’t get here by being soft. But in uptown do-gooder Justine Greene―the very definition of an iron fist in a velvet glove―Jack may have met his match.

She wears hers on her sleeve…

Justine is devoted to tracking down deadbeat husbands and fighting for fair working conditions. When her mission brings her face-to-face with Jack, she’s shocked to find the man behind the criminal empire is considerably more charming and honorable than many “gentlemen” she knows.

Forming an unlikely alliance, they discover an unexpected desire. And when Justine’s past catches up with them, Jack may be her only hope of survival. Is she ready to make a deal with the devil…?

  • Destiny’s Embrace

    Destiny’s Embrace by Beverly Jenkins

RECOMMENDEDDestiny’s Embrace by Beverly Jenkins is $1.99! This book was the Sizzling Book Club Pick in February 2013, and Sarah really enjoyed it, especially the parts about the establishment of the state of California. She also says her favorite scenes are Mariah’s train ride across the country, and how she stares down Logan once she gets to Destiny. This series is just fantastic.

Gentleman Seeks Housekeeper. Must be willing to travel.

Desperate for another life away from Philadelphia, headstrong and beautiful Mariah Cooper answers an advertisement for a housekeeper at the other end of the continent. Waiting in California is the most breathtaking—and arrogant—man she has ever met…and he’d like nothing better than for Mariah to go back home!

Logan Yates has run Destiny, the family ranch, since he was a boy. He doesn’t need this Eastern miss his stepmother hired, though his home’s chaotic state suggests otherwise. Still, he’s secretly pleased that Mariah gives as good as she gets—and he must fight the urge to take her in his arms and kiss her whenever she proudly stands her ground. But when he’s in danger of losing her, Logan will have to choose between pride…and his heart’s true desire.

  • The Rest Falls Away

The Rest Falls Away by Colleen Gleason

The Rest Falls Away by Colleen Gleason is FREE at Amazon! This has been described as a Regency Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Both Sarah and Carrie reviewed it. Sarah gave it a B+:

Above all, the writing is what recommends this book most. Gleason’s writing is sharp and taut, which makes for excellent action sequences, and a plot that travels quickly from the start. The writing strength alone gives me ample reassurance that this potentially plot-heavy series is in the right hands. I’m definitely looking forward to the next installment.

    Carrie gave it a C+:

I found the book to be entertaining but a bit bland – perhaps, since its such an open tribute to Buffy, I expected more of the wit I got from Buffy. This book was actually quite dark and angsty once it got past the first few chapters. Although it did not prove to be my personal catnip, it was quite obvious to me why it has a devoted following – lots of angst, lots of pretty clothes, lots of hot guys. And the “stake as part of the hairdo” was stellar.

Beneath the glitter of dazzling nineteenth century London Society lurks a bloodthirsty evil…

Vampires have always lived among them, quietly attacking unsuspecting debutantes and dandified lords as well as hackney drivers and Bond Street milliners. If not for the vampire slayers of the Gardella family, these immortal creatures would have long ago taken control of the world.

In every generation, a Gardella is called to accept the family legacy, and this time, Victoria Gardella Grantworth is chosen, on the eve of her debut, to carry the stake. But as she moves between the crush of ballrooms and dangerous moonlit streets, Victoria’s heart is torn between London’s most eligible bachelor, the Marquess of Rockley, and her dark, dangerous duty.

And when she comes face-to-face with the most powerful vampire in history, Victoria must ultimately make a choice between duty and love.

  • The Dark Protectors Boxed Set

The Dark Protectors Boxed Set by Rebecca Zanetti

The Dark Protectors Boxed Set by Rebecca Zanetti is $1.99 and a Kindle Daily Deal! If you’ve ever been tempted to try this series, this is a pretty good deal that includes three full-length books and a novella. Are there any fans of the series in the Bitchery? Every time we feature one of the books on sale, I’m always really curious about them.

Don’t miss the first four volumes of the unforgettable Dark Protectors series: Fated, Claimed, Tempted, Hunted

Driven by prophecy, the Dark Protectors are male vampires, fearless and born to mate with human females—for eternity. Talen Kayrs is on a mission, and once Cara Paulsen takes him as her mate, nothing can stop the force of his desire…

Vampire king Dage Kayrs knows that when he encounters the brilliant geneticist Emma Paulsen, the power of their coming together will never be decoded…

When bodyguard Max Petrovsky is sent to rescue Sarah Pringle from the evil Kurjans chasing her, he’s willing to go far beyond the call of duty…

It’s taken over a century for ultimate soldier Connor Kayrs to consummate his union with the powerful witch Moira Dunne, but the time has come…

Honestly? Pretty much everything I know about the founding of the state of California I owe to Beverly Jenkins. I read this series, realized I had a huge hole in my historical general knowledge here, and then went off and read some more.

  3. Meg says:

The Rebecca Zanetti boxed set was too good to pass up. I’ve never read her, but so many readers whose tastes I share have recommended her that I had to grab it. It might take me years to get to it, but at least it will be there!

  4. Neile says:

The audiobook for Courtney Milan’s TRADE ME is $1.99 at chirpbooks.com. I already own it on Audible but that’s such a great price on a good book that I’m tempted to buy it again just on principle.

Molly Ringle’s LAVA RED FEATHER BLUE is on sale for .99 at Amazon. I haven’t read it, but the reviews are quite favorable.

Awakening the handsome prince is supposed to end the fairy tale, not begin it. But the Highvalley witches have rarely done things the way they’re supposed to. On the north Pacific island of Eidolonia, hidden from the world by enchantments, Prince Larkin has lain in a magical sleep since 1799 as one side of a truce between humans and fae. That is, until Merrick Highvalley, a modern-day witch, discovers an old box of magic charms and cryptic notes hidden inside a garden statue.

Experimenting with the charms, Merrick finds himself inside the bower where Larkin lies, and accidentally awakens him. Worse still, releasing Larkin from the spell also releases Ula Kana, a faery bent on eradicating humans from the island. With the truce collapsing and hostilities escalating throughout the country, Merrick and Larkin form an unlikely alliance and become even unlikelier heroes as they flee into the perilous fae realm on a quest to stop Ula Kana and restore harmony to their island.

Remind me why the Sizzling Book Club no longer exists?

  7. FashionablyEvil says:

I had a hard time with DESTINY’S EMBRACE. Part of the premise is that Mariah has been physically and emotionally abused by her mother for *30 years.* For me, the rest of the book has way too much interpersonal violence for that premise: Mariah assaults Logan on three different occasions, Logan gets into a couple of brawls—including one in church—and there’s a lot of casual references to Logan’s mother whipping him with a buggy whip as a child. Some of this might read as slapstick with a different premise, but given Mariah’s history, it was way too much for me and didn’t seem to be treated with the care and concern it merited.
