  • Kamila Knows Best

Kamila Knows Best by Farah Heron

Kamila Knows Best by Farah Heron is $2.99! I believe this is Farah’s most recent release and came out this spring. This one is inspired by Jane Austen’s Emma, and Sarah recorded a podcast episode with Farah about the release.

Kamila Hussain’s life might not be perfect, but, whew, it’s close. She lives a life of comfort, filled with her elaborate Bollywood movie parties, a dog with more Instagram followers than most reality stars, a job she loves, and an endless array of friends who clearly need her help finding love. In fact, Kamila is so busy with her friends’ love lives, she’s hardly given any thought to her own . . .

Fortunately, Kamila has Rohan Nasser. A longtime friend of the family, he’s hugely successful, with the deliciously lean, firm body of a rock climber. Only lately, Kamila’s “harmless flirting” with Rohan is making her insides do a little bhangra dance.

But between planning the local shelter’s puppy prom, throwing a huge work event, and proving to everyone that she’s got it all figured out, Kamila isn’t letting herself get distracted—until her secret nemesis returns to town with an eye for Rohan. Suddenly, it seems like the more Kamila tries to plan, the more things are starting to unravel—and her perfectly ordered life is about to be turned upside down.

  • Love and Other Disasters

Love and Other Disasters by Anita Kelly

RECOMMENDED: Love & Other Disasters by Anita Kelly is $2.99! Tara and Carrie did a joint review and gave it a B+:

Tara: Overall, I really enjoyed this one! Dahlia and London were such wonderful characters, and I’m a big fan of cooking shows, so I know I’ll be reading Love and Other Disasters again. I’ll just be sure to stock snacks next time, because reading about so much amazing food made me hungry.

Carrie: I was delighted with this book overall. The supporting characters were fun (or loathsome, as the plot demanded). The character development was realistic and powerful. The romance was sexy and I can totally picture Dahlia and London as an old couple on a porch somewhere — I was invested in them for the long haul. This will be one of my comfort re-reads for sure!

The first openly nonbinary contestant on America’s favorite cooking show falls for their clumsy competitor in this delicious romantic comedy debut that USA Today hailed as “an essential read.”

Recently divorced and on the verge of bankruptcy, Dahlia Woodson is ready to reinvent herself on the popular reality competition show Chef’s Special. Too bad the first memorable move she makes is falling flat on her face, sending fish tacos flying—not quite the fresh start she was hoping for. Still, she’s focused on winning, until she meets someone she might want a future with more than she needs the prize money.

After announcing their pronouns on national television, London Parker has enough on their mind without worrying about the klutzy competitor stationed in front of them. They’re there to prove the trolls—including a fellow contestant and their dad—wrong, and falling in love was never part of the plan.

As London and Dahlia get closer, reality starts to fall away. Goodbye, guilt about divorce, anxiety about uncertain futures, and stress from transphobia. Hello, hilarious shenanigans on set, wedding crashing, and spontaneous dips into the Pacific. But as the finale draws near, Dahlia and London’s steamy relationship starts to feel the heat both in and outside the kitchen—and they must figure out if they have the right ingredients for a happily ever after.

How to Marry Keanu Reeves in 90 Days by K.M. Jackson

How to Marry Keanu Reeves in 90 Days by K.M. Jackson is $2.99! This is a rom-com road trip with a friends to lovers romance. I did an event with the author and K.M./Kwana was so much fun to talk to.

USA Today bestselling author K.M. Jackson delivers a hilarious road-trip rom-com perfect for fans of Meet Cute and When Harry Met Sally.

Bethany Lu Carlisle is devastated when the tabloids report actor Keanu Reeves is about to tie the knot. What?! How could the world’s perfect boyfriend and forever bachelor, Keanu not realize that making a move like this could potentially be devastating to the equilibrium of…well…everything! Not to mention, he’s never come face to face with the person who could potentially be his true soulmate—her.

Desperate to convince Keanu to call off the wedding, Lu and her ride-or-die BFF Truman Erikson take a wild road trip to search for the elusive Keanu so that Lu can fulfill her dream of meeting her forever crush and confess her undying love. • The Dating Playbook

The Dating Playbook by Farrah Rochon

The Dating Playbook by Farrah Rochon is $2.99! This is book two in The Boyfriend Project series, though it works fine on its own. The heroine is a personal trainer and the hero is an athlete who wants to get back into the NFL.

When a personal trainer agrees to fake date her client, all rules are out the window in this delightful romantic comedy from the USA Today bestselling author of The Boyfriend Project!

When it comes to personal training, Taylor Powell kicks serious butt. Unfortunately, her bills are piling up, rent is due, and the money situation is dire. Taylor needs more than the support of her new best friends, Samiah and London. She needs a miracle.

And Jamar Dixon might just be it. The oh-so-fine former footballer wants back into the NFL, and he wants Taylor to train him. There’s just one catch — no one can know what they’re doing. But when they’re accidentally outed as a couple, Taylor’s game plan is turned completely upside down. Is Jamar just playing to win . . . or is he playing for keeps?

  1. I loved Love & Other Disasters SO much!

  2. Leigh Kramer says:

I absolutely adored Love & Other Disasters!

  3. Darlynne says:

Some titles I saw in Kindle Deals, free or .99. I have no idea if they’re any good, but they sounded interesting (as if I needed more books).

James Acaster’s Classic Scrapes by James Acaster, .99
Otterly Into You by Erin Nicholas, free
Out Of Time: An Atticus Wolfe Novel by Dave Sinclair, .99
Bennett Sisters Mysteries Volume 7 & 8 by Lise McClendon, free

Other sale/crime novel books I enthusiastically recommend:

The Fine Art of Invisible Detection by Robert Goddard, 1.99
Painting the Darkness by Robert Goddard, 2.99
A Dark Matter by Doug Johnstone (Skelfs 1), .99
The Great Silence by Doug Johnstone (Skelfs 3), .99

Publishers, why put books 1 and 3 in an outstanding crime series on sale, but leave 2 at its regular price? I know 4 is coming in September, but the books must be read in order. And while I want authors to earn squillons of dollars/pounds, make this make sense.

  4. Jcp says:

@Darlynne Publishers do this all the time it personally drives me nuts.

  5. LML says:

“Publishers, why put books 1 and 3 in an outstanding crime series on sale, but leave 2 at its regular price? I know 4 is coming in September, but the books must be read in order. And while I want authors to earn squillons of dollars/pounds, make this make sense.”

@Darlynne, you are singing my song!

  6. DiscoDollyDeb says:

@Darlynne & Jcp: I think it’s called a “loss leader”. Get readers hooked on the series via a free/discounted first book, dangle the free/discounted third book in front of them, but make them pay full price for the second to get the full arc of the story.

  7. Jcp says:

I just put the non sale books on my Amazon and ereaderiq wish lists. I can wait…I have plenty to read…

  8. Kareni says:

Earth Bound (Fly Me to the Moon, Book Three) by Emma Barry and Genevieve Turner is currently free for US Kindle readers.

  9. Kris Bock says:

I wonder if it’s book one free or cheap as the loss leader to get new readers to try the series, and book three discounted so readers who’ve already tried the series can catch up and will be enthusiastic about book 4.

  10. Susan says:

@Darlynne: Thanks for alerting me to the Skelfs sale. I had picked up #2 on sale last year so was able to complete the set. Now, I just need to get around to actually reading them. Sigh.

  11. Darlynne says:

@Susan: I cannot express how much I enjoy this series, its completely flawed characters who manage to carry on as undertakers/private investigators in Edinburgh. Things can get dark, not gonna lie, and I am here for every word.
