When No One Is Watching
When No One Is Watching by Alyssa Cole is $2.99! We were all pretty excited about this one. What did you think about Cole’s thriller debut? I’m very curious if there will be more for her!
Rear Window meets Get Out in this gripping thriller from a critically acclaimed and New York Times Notable author, in which the gentrification of a Brooklyn neighborhood takes on a sinister new meaning …
Sydney Green is Brooklyn born and raised, but her beloved neighborhood seems to change every time she blinks. Condos are sprouting like weeds, FOR SALE signs are popping up overnight, and the neighbors she’s known all her life are disappearing. To hold onto her community’s past and present, Sydney channels her frustration into a walking tour and finds an unlikely and unwanted assistant in one of the new arrivals to the block—her neighbor Theo.
But Sydney and Theo’s deep dive into history quickly becomes a dizzying descent into paranoia and fear. Their neighbors may not have moved to the suburbs after all, and the push to revitalize the community may be more deadly than advertised.
When does coincidence become conspiracy? Where do people go when gentrification pushes them out? Can Sydney and Theo trust each other—or themselves—long enough to find out before they too disappear?

Legend of the Highland Dragon
Legend of the Highland Dragon by Isabel Cooper is $2.51 or $2.99 depending on vendor! This is the first book in the Highland Dragons series. Several reviewers felt they were misled by the cover, expecting a warrior hero and a romance with lots of action. However, others loved the Victorian England setting mixed with dragons and paranormal elements.
He Guards a Ferocious Secret
In Victorian England, gossip is often as precious as gold. But the Highlanders are a more mysterious bunch. And if anyone found out that Stephen MacAlasdair really was, he’d be hunted down, murdered, his clan wiped out. As he’s called to London on business, he’ll have to be extra vigilant—especially between sunset and the appearance of the first evening star.
Mina just wanted to find out more about the arrogant man who showed up in her employer’s office. Some might say it was part of her job. She never thought the stranger would turn into a dragon right in front of her. Or that he’d then offer her an outrageous sum of money to serve as his personal secretary. Working together night and day to track a dangerous enemy, Mina comes to see a man in love is more powerful and determined than any dragon.

A Lowcountry Bride
A Lowcountry Bride by Preslaysa Williams is $1.99! This is a romance set in one of my favorite places: Charleston, South Carolina. If I ever had to live south of the Mason-Dixon line again, I’d probably pick SC. Sarah also had Williams on the podcast!
A heartwarming Avon debut of love, forgiveness, and new beginnings set in the beautiful South Carolina Lowcountry.
Maya Jackson has worked for Laura Whitcomb, Inc, a renowned New York City bridal gown brand, for years and dreams of becoming Head Designer. She has the talent; she just needs a chance to showcase her unique style. Due to an illness, she’s always prioritized her career over her personal life until her father fractures his hip and Maya returns to Charleston, South Carolina. While home for only a few months, she’s thrilled to find an opportunity at the local bridal gown boutique, never expecting sparks to fly with its owner…
A military veteran and widowed father, Derek Sullivan hopes to save Always a Bride from bankruptcy in order to preserve the legacy of his mother. He also wants to reconnect with his estranged, twelve-year-old daughter, who is still recovering from the loss of her mother. The last thing he needs is a relationship with a beautiful, smart, complicated woman who will be leaving soon.
When Derek begins to fall for the lovely Maya, he knows there’s no future. But destiny has its own plans, and these two lonely people with big hearts discover that coming home to love is the best gift life can give.

Phoenix Unbound
Phoenix Unbound by Grace Draven is $1.99! I gave this one a C-, but I’d still recommend it with large caveats. 1) All of the trigger warnings. 2) It’s dense and the slow burn is quite slow. 3) There’s a magical infertility cure. Draven’s writing is always top notch and I did continue with the next book.
A woman with power over fire and illusion and an enslaved son of a chieftain battle a corrupt empire in this powerful and deeply emotional romantic fantasy from the USA Todaybestselling author of Radiance.
Every year, each village is required to send a young woman to the Empire’s capital–her fate to be burned alive for the entertainment of the masses. For the last five years, one small village’s tithe has been the same woman. Gilene’s sacrifice protects all the other young women of her village, and her secret to staying alive lies with the magic only she possesses.
But this year is different.
Azarion, the Empire’s most famous gladiator, has somehow seen through her illusion–and is set on blackmailing Gilene into using her abilities to help him escape his life of slavery. And unknown to Gilene, he also wants to reclaim the birthright of his clan.
To protect her family and village, she will risk everything to return to the Empire–and burn once more.

Cooper’s dragon books come in a couple of subseries set in different time periods. The ones labeled “Dawn of the Highland Dragons” are more 14th-century sword-slinging fare. (Highland Dragon Warrior is my favorite of those, in which the Jewish heroine is very much the brains behind the day-saving while the dragon provides wings and muscle.) They have a monster-of-the-week setup in terms of the external conflict, so you can read them at random.
LIKE WATER CATCHING FIRE by EM Lindsey is free at Amazon today. Lindsey’s books often address relationships between people (and children) with physical, psychological, mental and other differences from [the imaginary] mainstream, including D/deaf-ness, blindness, loss of limbs, PTSD, etc. I find their books worth reading, often more than once.
Headstrong (Vino and Veritas) by Eden Finley is currently free to US Kindle readers.
