  • The Kiss Quotient

The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang

RECOMMENDED: The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang is $1.99! I’m jealous of those who get to read this for the first time. We had a wonderful guest squee of this and it was my favorite read of 2018:

I truly loved this book. Loved. It made me feel like a champagne bubble – all fizzy and light. When I think of all the magical feelings romance gives its readers, I will forever think of this book.

A heartwarming and refreshing debut novel that proves one thing: there’s not enough data in the world to predict what will make your heart tick.

Stella Lane thinks math is the only thing that unites the universe. She comes up with algorithms to predict customer purchases–a job that has given her more money than she knows what to do with, and way less experience in the dating department than the average thirty-year-old.

It doesn’t help that Stella has Asperger’s and French kissing reminds her of a shark getting its teeth cleaned by pilot fish. Her conclusion: she needs lots of practice–with a professional. Which is why she hires escort Michael Phan. The Vietnamese and Swedish stunner can’t afford to turn down Stella’s offer, and agrees to help her check off all the boxes on her lesson plan–from foreplay to more-than-missionary position…

Before long, Stella not only learns to appreciate his kisses, but crave all of the other things he’s making her feel. Their no-nonsense partnership starts making a strange kind of sense. And the pattern that emerges will convince Stella that love is the best kind of logic…

  • Electric Idol

    Electric Idol by Katee Roberts

Electric Idol by Katee Robert is $1.99! Not sure if this is a leftover Kindle Daily Deal from yesterday or not. It’s book two in the Dark Olympus series and is a retelling of Psyche and Eros. Are you a fan of the series?

He was the most beautiful man in Olympus.
And if I wasn’t careful, he was going to be my death.

*A scorchingly hot modern retelling of Psyche and Eros that’s as sinful as it is sweet.*

In the ultra-modern city of Olympus, there’s always a price to pay. Psyche Dimitriou knew she’d have to face Aphrodite’s jealous rage eventually, but she never expected her literal heart to be at stake…or for Aphrodite’s gorgeous son to be the one ordered to strike the killing blow.

Eros has no problem shedding blood. Raised to be his mother’s knife in the dark, he’s been conditioned to accept that he’s more monster than man. But when it comes time to take out his latest target…he can’t do it. Confused by his reaction to Psyche’s unexpected kindness, he does the only thing he can think of to keep her safe: he binds her to him, body and soul.

Psyche didn’t expect to find herself married to the glittering city’s most dangerous killer, but something about Eros wakens a fire inside her she’s never felt before. As lines blur and loyalties shift, Psyche realizes Eros might take her heart after all…and she’s not sure she can survive the loss.

  • The Girl with Stars in Her Eyes

The Girl with Stars in Her Eyes by Xio Axelrod

The Girl with Stars in Her Eyes by Xio Axelrod is $1.99! This came out in the spring and has second chance romance elements and characters involved in the music industry. This one had a lot of buzz. Did you read it?

Her name’s Antonia “Toni” Bennette (yeah, she’s heard all the jokes before) and she’s not a rock star. Neither are the Lillys—not yet. But the difference between being famous and being almost famous can be a single wrong note…or the start of something that’ll change your life forever.

Growing up in dive bars up and down the East Coast, Toni Bennette’s guitar was her only companion…until she met Sebastian Quick. Seb was a little older, a lot wiser, and before long he was Toni’s way out, promising they’d escape their stifling small town together. Then Seb turned eighteen and split without looking back.

Now, Toni’s all grown up and making a name for herself in Philadelphia’s indie scene. When a friend suggests she try out for a hot new up-and-coming band, Toni decides to take a chance. Strong, feminist, and fierce as fire, Toni B. and the Lillys are the perfect match…except Seb’s now moonlighting as their manager. Whatever. Toni can handle it. No problem. Or it wouldn’t be if Seb didn’t still hold a piece of her heart…not to mention the key to her future.

  • The Switch

    The Switch by Beth O'Leary

RECOMMENDED: The Switch by Beth O’Leary is $2.99! Catherine read this one and gave it an A:

It’s a very gentle, wholesome sort of book. I read it last week when I was sick, and it was really the perfect book to curl up with if one is under the weather.

Eileen is sick of being 79.
Leena’s tired of life in her twenties.
Maybe it’s time they swapped places…

When overachiever Leena Cotton is ordered to take a two-month sabbatical after blowing a big presentation at work, she escapes to her grandmother Eileen’s house for some overdue rest. Eileen is newly single and about to turn eighty. She’d like a second chance at love, but her tiny Yorkshire village doesn’t offer many eligible gentlemen.

Once Leena learns of Eileen’s romantic predicament, she proposes a solution: a two-month swap. Eileen can live in London and look for love. Meanwhile Leena will look after everything in rural Yorkshire. But with gossiping neighbours and difficult family dynamics to navigate up north, and trendy London flatmates and online dating to contend with in the city, stepping into one another’s shoes proves more difficult than either of them expected.

Leena learns that a long-distance relationship isn’t as romantic as she hoped it would be, and then there is the annoyingly perfect – and distractingly handsome – school teacher, who keeps showing up to outdo her efforts to impress the local villagers. Back in London, Eileen is a huge hit with her new neighbours, but is her perfect match nearer home than she first thought?

Katee Robert is so smutty, and that’s a compliment. I can’t read her books in public. https://youtu.be/Gj1AvyHqPjQ

  2. Laura says:

I had turned my nose up to contemporaries until I read The Switch! I love love this book! Sweet funny all of it!

  3. Neile says:

I like and own all four of these books. THE KISS QUOTIENT is my favourite of them, but I found them all well worth reading in their own ways.

  4. Todd says:

e-readers have been a great boon to those of us who prefer not to have the covers of our books available for people to judge us (me) by

I did read a book – by Karen Rose, I think – in which a Woman FBI agent has a book with a wildly explicit cover that she uses when she’s following or observing someone … they get a glimpse of the cover and quickly look anywhere else.

  5. EJ says:

    @Todd

My high school English teacher told us we could read whatever we wanted as long as we didn’t have to bring it to class in a brown paper bag!

  6. drewbird says:

    @ Todd

And I remember a romance novel where the heroine would take the dust jackets of romance novels and put them on the slasher/thrillers she actually read because her whole family was romance crazy and she didn’t want to deal with their judgment of her reading murder mysteries instead! It was a big surprise to the H when he grabbed her “romance,” flipped to the middle and read about a grizzly stabbing or something 😉

  7. Vicki says:

@drewbird I want to know the name of that book!

  8. drewbird says:

@Vicki that might have to be a HABO – it was one I read in College I think (so early 2000s) about a travel writer (H) who gets stuck covering a love/romance festival. The h is part of a family who runs a restaurant maybe, and buys into the whole fated/soulmates thing, while she emphatically does not – very much the black sheep. I think there is a family legend that they all meet their “one” at the lucky fountain in the square, and the H and h do meet there – she is laughing that someone decorated the statue’s dick, and H sees that and has to get to know her or something? I will see what I can google. Or submit an HABO…

  9. drewbird says:

Okay yeah, google is giving me nothing. There was also a kissing competition and they won it, though the h passed out due to lack of oxygen 🙂
