  • In a Holidaze

In a Holidaze by Christina Lauren

In a Holidaze by Christina Lauren is $1.99! This is part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals. This is a holiday romance with a twist, a la Groundhog Day. I’m a huge CLo fan and they’re the only ones I’m willing to break my “no holiday romance” rule for. Have you read this one?

Love Actually meets Groundhog Day in the quintessential holiday romance by the New York Times bestselling author of The Honey-Don’t List.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year…but not for Maelyn Jones. She’s living with her parents, hates her going-nowhere job, and has just made a romantic error of epic proportions.

But perhaps worst of all, this is the last Christmas Mae will be at her favorite place in the world—the snowy Utah cabin where she and her family have spent every holiday since she was born, along with two other beloved families. Mentally melting down as she drives away from the cabin for the final time, Mae throws out what she thinks is a simple plea to the universe: Please. Show me what will make me happy.

The next thing she knows, tires screech and metal collides, everything goes black. But when Mae gasps awake…she’s on an airplane bound for Utah, where she begins the same holiday all over again. With one hilarious disaster after another sending her back to the plane, Mae must figure out how to break free of the strange time loop—and finally get her true love under the mistletoe.

Jam-packed with yuletide cheer, an unforgettable cast of characters, and Christina Lauren’s trademark “downright hilarious” (Helen Hoang, author of The Bride Test) hijinks, this swoon-worthy romantic read will make you believe in the power of wishes and the magic of the holidays.

  • Rafe

    Rafe by Rebekah Weatherspoon

RECOMMENDED: Rafe by Rebekah Weatherspoon is 99c! Carrie gave this one a B+:

I just could not get enough of the character dynamics, no matter who was on the page. It’s such a warm, loving (and very explicitly sexy) story, with an underlying daring in terms of subverting gender norms.

All Dr. Sloan Copeland needed was someone to watch her kids. What she found was the man of her dreams…

After a nasty divorce and a thousand mile move, Dr. Sloan Copeland and her twin daughters are finally getting the hang of their new life in Los Angeles. When their live-in nanny bails with no warning, Sloan is left scrambling to find a competent caretaker to wrangle her smart, sensitive girls. Nothing less will do.

Enter Rafe Whitcomb. He’s all of those things, not to mention good-natured and one heck of a whiz in the kitchen. He’s also tall, and handsome, and bearded, and ripped, and tatted, wrist to neck.

It doesn’t take long for the Copelands to invite Rafe into their home. Just as quickly, both Sloan and Rafe find themselves succumbing to a heady mutual attraction, neither of them wants to deny. With every minute they spend under the same roof, this working mom can’t help but wonder if Rafe can handle all her needs…

**This stand-alone romance is fluffy. So fluffy. It’s fluff. Low. Angst. Fluff. featuring a large tatted, motorcycle riding ginger man, who bakes a mean bacon quiche and knows exactly how to wrangle clever six year olds while making their mom feel loved, loved, loved.**

  • How the Dukes Stole Christmas

How the Dukes Stole Christmas by Tessa Dare

How the Dukes Stole Christmas is $1.99! This is a historical holiday romance anthology from some major historical romance writers. Elyse reviewed this one and gave it a C. Her main critique was that the novellas felt uneven in terms of her enjoyment.

Christmas magic is in the air… From the ballrooms of London, to abandoned Scottish castles, to the snowy streets of Gilded Age New York, four bestselling authors whip up some unforgettable romance…with a little help from some enchanted shortbread.

“Meet Me in Mayfair” by Tessa Dare
Louisa Ward needs a Christmas miracle. Unless she catches a wealthy husband at the ball tonight, the horrid, heartless Duke of Thorndale will evict her family from their beloved Mayfair home. But when her friend begs to switch dance cards, Louisa finds herself waltzing with the enemy: the horrid, heartless–and unexpectedly handsome–Thorndale himself. Now the duke’s holding her future in his hands…and he’s not letting go.

“The Duke of Christmas Present” by Sarah MacLean
Rich and ruthless, Eben, Duke of Allryd, has no time for holidays. Holidays are for whimsy and charm–the only two things his money cannot buy. Lady Jacqueline Mosby is full of both, even now, twelve years after she left to see the world. When Jacqueline returns for a single Christmas, Eben can’t resist the woman he never stopped loving…or the future that had once been in reach. It will take a miracle to convince her to stay…but if ever there were a time for miracles, it’s Christmas…

    “Heiress Alone” by Sophie Jordan
When Annis Bannister’s family leaves her behind in the rush to escape an impending snowstorm, she finds herself stranded in the Highlands, left to fend off brigands terrorizing the countryside, robbing homes locked up for winter. Her only hope falls on her neighbor, a surly hermit duke who unravels her with a look, then a kiss … until she fears the danger to her heart outweighs the danger of brigands and snowstorms.

“Christmas in Central Park” by Joanna Shupe
Women all over America devour Mrs. Walker’s weekly column for recipes and advice. No one knows Rose, the column’s author, can’t even boil water. When the paper’s owner, Duke Havemeyer, insists she host a Christmas party, Rose must scramble to find a husband, an empty mansion, and a cook. But Duke is not a man easily fooled and she fears her perfect plan is failing–especially when Duke’s attentions make her feel anything but professional. To save her career will she give up her chance at love?

  • Outlawed

    Outlawed by Anna North

RECOMMENDED: Outlawed by Anna North is $2.99! Tara gave this one an A-:

For me, Outlawed was an incredible read. I would absolutely never want to visit this world, but I admire Ada for making her way in it and saving herself. I won’t forget her anytime soon.

The Crucible meets True Grit in this riveting adventure story of a fugitive girl, a mysterious gang of robbers, and their dangerous mission to transform the Wild West.

In the year of our Lord 1894, I became an outlaw.

The day of her wedding, 17 year old Ada’s life looks good; she loves her husband, and she loves working as an apprentice to her mother, a respected midwife. But after a year of marriage and no pregnancy, in a town where barren women are routinely hanged as witches, her survival depends on leaving behind everything she knows.

She joins up with the notorious Hole in the Wall Gang, a band of outlaws led by a preacher-turned-robber known to all as the Kid. Charismatic, grandiose, and mercurial, the Kid is determined to create a safe haven for outcast women. But to make this dream a reality, the Gang hatches a treacherous plan that may get them all killed. And Ada must decide whether she’s willing to risk her life for the possibility of a new kind of future for them all.

Featuring an irresistibly no-nonsense, courageous, and determined heroine, Outlawed dusts off the myth of the old West and reignites the glimmering promise of the frontier with an entirely new set of feminist stakes. Anna North has crafted a pulse-racing, page-turning saga about the search for hope in the wake of death, and for truth in a climate of small-mindedness and fear.

  1. Jill Q. says:

IN A HOLIDAZE didn’t work for me, but it may just b/c when I read the synopsis I was getting a certain hero/trope I love (think the movie Sabrina) and then it went in a completely different direction. So it might work very well for other people. It’s one of the few recent CLs that didn’t work for me.

  2. Empress of Blandings says:

The advert that sold Rafe to me had a slogan along the lines of ‘He can fold fitted sheets!’ I did not regret my purchase.

  3. JenC says:

I loved In a Holidaze so much that I gave copies to all my friends as an early Christmas present last year.

  4. T says:

Outlawed isn’t showing up on sale at Amazon or B&N. Definitely bought Rafe. That has been on my list for awhile now.

  5. DonnnaMarie says:

    You had me at ginger.

  6. Liz says:

The link for HOW THE DUKES STOLE CHRISTMAS took me to the mass market version. Will you still get credit for it (or w/e) if I switch to kindle from there?

  7. Sarah says:

Off topic to this specific newsletter but I LOVED Waiting for Tom Hanks. Devoured it on a plane and even took the time to rate it on Amazon. A solid, legitimate rom com that hit all the right beats.

  8. Margarita says:

Rafe didn’t really work for me. The hero felt more like a cardboard cutout than a fully fleshed-out character, but ymmv.

  9. omphale says:

I LOVE, I HATE YOU is on sale at Amazon for 0.99! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08PV3MTMV/?coliid=I3H3U3XRAFIEA5&colid=1ESDFQ3WJY9TA&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

I’ve been seeing good things on Twitter about this one, so I snapped it up!

  10. Laurel says:

@Margarita, Rafe didn’t work for me either. He works for her. They shouldn’t be having a sexual relationship. I couldn’t get past the fact that this is a terrible plot in the time of #MeToo. The fact that the person with the power in the relationship is a woman doesn’t make it any less wrong. And yes, I know this is fiction, but I found it creepy.

  11. Carrie G says:

    For audiobook lovers:
Chirpbooks.com has several recommended audiobooks on sale right now, including Role Model by Rachel Reid, narrated by Cooper North on sale for just $3.99. This is part of Reid’s Game Changer’s series and is very popular. I loved this one. No membership- you just download their app. I’ve been using them for a couple of years now and had no issues with the app.

I’ve also listened to all of Annabeth Albert’s Out of Uniform series, and the first one OFF BASE is on sale for $3.99. Tyler Stevens narrates and he’s not my absolute favorite, but he’s ok. I gave him a B- for the narration.

They also have Olivia Dade’s TEACH ME on sale for $2.99. I haven’t listened to this, but the sample of the narrator sounded fine, and I know Dade is popular with many readers.

I check out Chirpbooks about once a week, looking through the featured book deals, and then looking for other books by that author. Often more than one book is on sale, even though only one is featured. I don’t buy often, but I’ve gotten some really good deal there, including the entire Dressmaker Series by Loretta Chase, narrated by the very talented Kate Reading, for only $3 or $4 apiece, and Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall for $4. Books usually stay on sale for 28-30 days, so it gives you a chance to catch good sales without having to look daily.

  12. Jennifer says:

I definitely liked In A Holidaze.

  13. Quinn Wilde says:

One of my favorite bookstagramers made a hilarious post on That Book.

  14. Kate says:

In a Holidaze was great fun!

  15. Kareni says:

I enjoyed both In a Holidaze and Outlawed when I read them but no longer recall many details.

  16. Janet says:

Also several of the Jackson Brodie series by Kate Atkinson are on sale at Amazon, best read in order. Mysteries, he’s a private detective, funny, wry, emotional good stuff.

  17. MaryK says:

I was scrolling through the Amazon deals (hoping for a spend $ get $ free deal, TBH) and came across Whiskey in a Teacup by Reese Witherspoon ($1.99) which looks fascinating. It seems to be a memoir/decorating/recipe combo. I couldn’t resist it.

  18. Katelynne says:

Add me to the list of those who love In A Holidaze!
