  • A Good Duke is Hard to Find

A Good Duke is Hard to Find by Christina Britton

A Good Duke is Hard to Find by Christina Britton is $1.99! This is the first book in the Isle of Synne series and I’m sure it’s pronounced “sin” but my mind went to “sine” and I, for one, will avoid an island of calculus. No thank you!

Get swept away by a Regency romance of broken engagements, second chances, and stolen kisses from the author whom Publishers Weekly calls “irresistible”.

After her third fiancé leaves her at the altar, Lenora Hartley is beginning to think she’s cursed. One thing’s for certain: she needs to escape London and her father’s tyrannical attempts to find her yet another suitor. The Isle of Synne, an isolated and idyllic retreat off Britain’s northern coast, is blessedly far from society’s gossip, but it also carries haunting reminders of her first fiancé. Letting go of the past to find happiness seems impossible—until Lenora is thrown in the path of a gruff, mysterious blue-eyed man who makes her pulse race.

Next in line for a dukedom he doesn’t want to inherit, Peter Ashford is only on the isle to exact revenge on the man who is responsible for his mother’s death. Once he’s completed the task, he’ll return to America where his life can finally be his own. Yet when he meets the beautiful and kind Miss Hartley, he can’t help but be drawn to her. Can Peter put aside his plans for vengeance for the woman who has come to mean everything to him?

  • Game Changer

    Game Changer by Rachel Reid

Game Changer by Rachel Reid $1.99! This is the first book in a series of the same name and is a M/M hockey romance. I know other books in the series have been recommended on the site. Are you a fan? Do you have a favorite?

New York Admirals captain Scott Hunter takes his pregame rituals very seriously. In this case, it’s not just a lucky smoothie he’s craving—it’s the man who made it.

Pro hockey star Scott Hunter knows a good thing when he sees it. So, when a smoothie made by juice bar barista Kip Grady precedes Scott breaking his on-ice slump, he’s desperate to recreate the magic…and to get to know the sexy, funny guy behind the counter.

Kip knew there was more to Scott’s frequent visits than blended fruit, but he never let himself imagine being invited back to Scott’s penthouse. Or kissed with reckless abandon, never mind touched everywhere all at once. When it happens it’s red-hot, incredible and frequent, but also only on Scott’s terms and always behind his closed apartment doors.

Scott needs Kip in his life, but with playoff season approaching, the spotlight on him is suddenly brighter than ever. He can’t afford to do anything that might derail his career…like introducing the world to his boyfriend. Kip is ready to go all-in with Scott—but how much longer will he have to remain a secret?

  • Too Hot to Handle

Too Hot to Handle by Tessa Bailey

Too Hot to Handle by Tessa Bailey is $1.99! I enjoy Bailey’s writing! Her dialogue feels very real and her dirty talk between characters is top notch. I loved the setup of an estranged family’s cross-country road trip. But I will admit the chemistry between the hero and heroine wavered at times.

The first book in a brand new contemporary romance series from New York Times bestselling author Tessa Bailey!

When Rita Clarkson’s Suburban takes its last breath on a New Mexico roadside, rescue roars up on a Harley in the form of smooth-talking honkey tonk owner, Jasper Ellis, a man as mysterious as he is charming. Rita’s cross-country journey to New York City–with her three estranged siblings in tow–is only beginning, but now that Jasper has found Rita, his plans do not include her leaving.

  • You Say It First

You Say It First by Susan Mallery

You Say It First by Susan Mallery is $1.99! This is the first book in the Happily Inc series, which has a small town setting and wedding planning themes. I’m quite interested in the sculptor/carpenter hero, but Mallery’s romances don’t often have enough conflict for me. What are your thoughts?

The #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Fool’s Gold romances invites you to visit Happily Inc., a wedding destination founded on a fairy tale

Sculptor Nick Mitchell grew up in a family of artists and learned from his volatile father that passion only leads to pain. As he waits on a new commission, he takes a day job as a humble carpenter at a theme wedding venue. The job has its perks—mainly the venue’s captivating owner, Pallas Saunders. Although he won’t let love consume him, for ecstasy with an expiration date, he’s all in.

Pallas adores Weddings in a Box. But if she can’t turn the floundering business around, she’ll have no choice but cave to her domineering mother and trade taffeta for trust funds working at the family’s bank. Then when a desperate bride begs Pallas for something completely out of the box, her irresistible new hire inspires her. Nick knows she doesn’t belong behind a desk, and she knows in her heart that he’s right—where she really belongs is in his arms.

  1. DiscoDollyDeb says:

GAME CHANGER is very good—but, to me, it was really more one man’s journey to coming out than a romance (although there is a nice one). I suspect the book is on sale because it’s the first of Reid’s Game Changer series—and the fifth book, ROLE MODEL, drops on August 10. The characters of Scott & Kip (not to mention Shane & Ilya from my favorite book in the series, HEATED RIVALRY) do recur throughout the subsequent books, so if you like m/m romance and haven’t read this series yet, $1.99 is a good price to get started. Fun fact: apparently, Reid adapted Scott and Kip’s story from her Captain America-Bucky Barnes fan-fic. Make of that what you will.

  2. Laurel says:

I have read Game Changer. I don’t read a lot of M/M, but DiscoDollyDeb recommended the next book in the series very highly, Heated Rivalry. I have a problem reading series out of order, so I started with Game Changer. It was a solid three star read for me – not fantastic, but not terrible either. I enjoyed Heated Rivalry more, but Game Changer is a good introduction to the series.

  3. Jen says:

Love the cover of A Good Duke with the hero’s clothes falling off.

  4. tenfour says:

Another rec for Rachel Reid’s Heated Rivalry. I’ve read all the books in that series and Heated Rivalry is one of my favorites of all time; the rest are pretty meh in my opinion.

  5. Carrie G says:

I’ve read all the other books in the Game Changer series by Reid, but not this one. I think most people feel it’s the weakest of the series,. Heated Rivalry, the next one is superb. I also enjoyed Tough Guy and Common Goal. I thought the representation of anxiety in Tough Guy was very well done. Anyway, for $1.99 I’m getting it if only to complete the whole set. I already have Role Model preordered on Audio.

  6. HeatherS says:

I agree with Laurel. “Game Changer” was a 3-star read for me. It was fine, if too syrupy sweet for my taste; I do think it works better as a coming-out journey for Scott than as a romance. A friend of mine (@bookishnotes on Insta) absolutely adored it. In a reverse, I loved “Heated Rivalry” (a solid 4-4.5 star read in my book because the chemistry between Shane and Ilya is WOW) and she didn’t like it.

I read all four books in like a week, one after the other. I really liked most of them best in the moment, but found that with the exception of “HR”, the rest quickly faded from memory. I did like them enough to preorder the new one because of the promise of more Shane and Ilya.

Also will reiterate the fact that Carina Press STILL hasn’t released this series in paperback is a heckin’ travesty. They must hate money, because I would buy a copy of all of them so fast (I have this thing about incomplete series. Can’t do it. Must have them all, even if I don’t like a particular book so much).

  7. Sandra says:

@HeatherS: Isn’t Carina Press digital only? Did that change?

  8. wingednike says:

I borrowed the Gamechanger books from the library and ended up getting Heated Rivalry first. I think having that as the intro to the series made Game Changer more impactful.

  9. Deborah says:

I enjoyed Game Changer, but it was probably my least favourite of the series for the same reasons as other posters. Heated Rivalry is also my favourite and I was a little disappointed to read there will be a sequel. I loved the ending and the fact it was a bit different, and I worry that a sequel won’t measure up.

I like continuity cameos in romance series, but with many authors the MCs from the previous novels get so much page time that it really bogs down the story. It’s almost as though the author just can’t let go of those characters. I find Rachel Reid does a really good job avoiding that. Previous MCs show up, but it’s never really for long, and the focus is always on the current MC or a brief “Fuckin’ Rozanov” curse, not a “Look how perfect and happy they are!” kind of thing.

  10. Star says:

Tessa Bailey is a very hit-or-miss author for me, and this one was a huge miss. I loved the setup for the sibling road trip, but I had serious issues with the hero, who was incredibly possessive, and I also absolutely hated the ending, which I don’t want to spoil, but… you know how some romance novels feature one of the leads (usually the heroine but not always) making a completely stupid decision, but the book requires you to side with her and demands apologies from the side characters begging her to use her goddamn brain? This book had one of the most egregious examples of this I have ever seen. So between the sea of red flags from the hero and the ending, I finished the book concerned for my blood pressure.

  11. cleo says:

I’m definitely in the minority but I really didn’t like Heated Rivalry – too much hate sex and not enough character development for my taste. I read it first and disliked it enough to not want to read Game Changer.
