  • Simmer Down

    Simmer Down by Sarah Smith

Simmer Down by Sarah Smith is $1.99! Maya was excited about this one when it released, and it has a 3.4-star average on Goodreads. Readers report that there are some rivalry and competition tropes ahoy, along with a significant amount of food p0rn.

In this finger-licking good rom-com, two is the perfect number of cooks in the kitchen.

Nikki DiMarco knew life wouldn’t be all sunshine and coconuts when she quit her dream job to help her mom serve up mouthwatering Filipino dishes to hungry beach goers, but she didn’t expect the Maui food truck scene to be so eat-or-be-eaten—or the competition to be so smoking hot.

But Tiva’s Filipina Kusina has faced bigger road bumps than the arrival of Callum James. Nikki doesn’t care how delectable the British food truck owner is—he rudely set up shop next to her coveted beach parking spot. He’s stealing her customers and fanning the flames of a public feud that makes her see sparks.

The solution? Let the upcoming Maui Food Festival decide their fate. Winner keeps the spot. Loser pounds sand. But the longer their rivalry simmers, the more Nikki starts to see a different side of Callum…a sweet, protective side. Is she brave enough to call a truce? Or will trusting Callum with her heart mean jumping from the frying pan into the fire?

  • A Duke, a Lady, and a Baby

A Duke, a Lady, and a Baby by Vanessa Riley

A Duke, The Lady, and A Baby by Vanessa Riley is $1.99! The second book in this series just came out, and Riley was a guest on the podcast recently, too.  A Duke… is the first book in the Rogues and Remarkable Women series. Have you read this one?

When headstrong West Indian heiress Patience Jordan questioned her English husband’s mysterious suicide, she lost everything: her newborn son, Lionel, her fortune—and her freedom. Falsely imprisoned, she risks her life to be near her child—until The Widow’s Grace gets her hired as her own son’s nanny. But working for his unsuspecting new guardian, Busick Strathmore, Duke of Repington, has perils of its own. Especially when Patience discovers his military strictness belies an ex-rake of unswerving honor—and unexpected passion…

A wounded military hero, Busick is determined to resolve his dead cousin’s dangerous financial dealings for Lionel’s sake. But his investigation is a minor skirmish compared to dealing with the forthright, courageous, and alluring Patience. Somehow, she’s breaking his rules, and sweeping past his defenses. Soon, between formidable enemies and obstacles, they form a fragile trust—but will it be enough to save the future they long to dare together?

    Will a week of seduction…

Desperate to save her sister’s life, Sidonie Forsythe has agreed to submit herself to a terrible fate: Beyond the foreboding walls of Castle Craven, a notorious, hideously scarred scoundrel will take her virtue over the course of seven sinful nights. • Heirloom Beans: Recipes from Rancho Gordo

Heirloom Beans: Recipes from Rancho Gordo by Vanessa Barrington

Heirloom Beans: Recipes from Rancho Gordo is $2.99! I follow Rancho Gordo on Instagram – they’re a mail order company of, well, heirloom beans, and they have so many recipes I want to eat right now. This cookbook has a 3.9-star average and readers report that while some of the recipes take a while (they are beans, after all) the results are fantastic.

    Now I’m hungry.

Who would have thought a simple bean could do so much? Heirloom bean expert Steve Sando provides descriptions of the many varieties now available, from Scarlet Runners to the spotted Eye of the Tiger beans. Nearly 90 recipes in the book will entice readers to cook up bowls of heartwarming Risotto and Cranberry Beans with Pancetta, or Caribbean Black Bean Soup. Close-up photos of the beans make them easy to identify. Packed with protein, fiber, and vitamins, these little treasures are the perfect addition to any meal.

The Gambler’s Pleasure by Michelle Beattie is free

  4. Emiliy B says:

Queen Move by Kennedy Ryan is 99 cents right now. Ryan’s an auto buy for me but this one was on another level. Badass political operative heroine, childhood romance, second chances, family drama and hot hot hot sexy times. This is a steal for 99 cents.

  5. Annie Kate says:

Rancho Gordo’s cranberry beans are god-tier, when I can find them in stores I hoard them like a dragon hoards gold. Whacking that one-click button immediately.

  6. Penny says:

Was hoping for toe beans… where is my kitten based ‘beans book? 😉

  7. spinster.revival says:

Barbara Pym’s Excellent Women is $2.99 on Amazon. Not a romance and probably her most famous novel. I never know how to describe her work, but I love it all dearly and always say that Pym is my patron saint. If spinsters and the Anglican church in post-WWII England are your jam, then Pym is your jam; her writing is amazing and hilarious (not loling but better).

  8. Flora says:

What or who on earth is a Widow’s Grace?

  9. Lisa F says:

@Flora – the Widow’s Grace is the organization in the series which tries to even the odds between usually socially besmirched women and the ton.
