  • The Duke Who Didn’t

The Duke Who Didn’t by Courtney Milan

RECOMMENDED: The Duke Who Didn’t by Courtney Milan is 99c! This is a KDD and I know many of you have been waiting for this to go on sale! Catherine gave this a squee grade:

The Duke Who Didn’t was always going to be a book that made me happy. Humour, food, and a gentle hero who just wants the heroine to be less stressed are a pretty good formula for getting onto my keeper shelf.

Miss Chloe Fong has plans for her life, lists for her days, and absolutely no time for nonsense. Three years ago, she told her childhood sweetheart that he could talk to her once he planned to be serious. He disappeared that very night.

Except now he’s back. Jeremy Wentworth, the Duke of Lansing, has returned to the tiny village he once visited with the hope of wooing Chloe. In his defense, it took him years of attempting to be serious to realize that the endeavor was incompatible with his personality.

All he has to do is convince Chloe to make room for a mischievous trickster in her life, then disclose that in all the years they’ve known each other, he’s failed to mention his real name, his title… and the minor fact that he owns her entire village.

Only one thing can go wrong: Everything.

  • Romancing Mister Bridgerton

Romancing Mister Bridgerton by Julia Quinn

Romancing Mister Bridgerton by Julia Quinn is $2.99! This is book four in the Bridgertons series, which is much loved around the Bitchery. Some readers advise reading the series in order for a richer experience, while others say you could jump into this as a standalone. It has a 4.2-star rating on Goodreads.

Penelope Featherington has secretly adored her best friend’s brother for . . . well, it feels like forever. After half a lifetime of watching Colin Bridgerton from afar, she thinks she knows everything about him, until she stumbles across his deepest secret . . . and fears she doesn’t know him at all.

Colin Bridgerton is tired of being thought nothing but an empty-headed charmer, tired of everyone’s preoccupation with the notorious gossip columnist Lady Whistledown, who can’t seem to publish an edition without mentioning him in the first paragraph.

But when Colin returns to London from a trip aboard, he discovers nothing in his life is quite the same, especially Penelope Featherington, the girl haunting his dreams!

And when he discovers that Penelope has secrets of her own, this elusive bachelor must decide . . . is she his biggest threat, or his promise of a happy ending?

  • Ancillary Justice

    Ancillary Justice by Anne Leckie

Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie is $2.99! This is part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals! I know Carrie really loves this book (and the entire series, I believe). It’s also a Hugo Award winner! Readers really loved the scifi world building, though some admitted wanting more action in the first book of the Imperial Radch series.

Winner of the Hugo, Nebula, British Science Fiction, Locus and Arthur C. Clarke Awards.

On a remote, icy planet, the soldier known as Breq is drawing closer to completing her quest.
Once, she was the Justice of Toren – a colossal starship with an artificial intelligence linking thousands of soldiers in the service of the Radch, the empire that conquered the galaxy.
Now, an act of treachery has ripped it all away, leaving her with one fragile human body, unanswered questions, and a burning desire for vengeance.

  • All Stirred Up

All Stirred Up by Laura Kumin

All Stirred Up by Laura Kumin is $1.99! The intersection of history and cooking is definitely something that might appeal to the Bitchery and it’s a relatively recent release. However, some of the Goodreads reviews mention that the format is a little distracting.

We all likely conjure up a similar image of the women’s suffrage movement: picket signs, red carnations, militant marches through the streets. But was it only these rallies that gained women the exposure and power that led them to the vote?

Ever courageous and creative, suffragists also carried their radical message into America’s homes wrapped in food wisdom, through cookbooks, which ingenuously packaged political strategy into already existent social communities. These cookbooks gave suffragists a chance to reach out to women on their own terms, in nonthreatening and accessible ways. Cooking together, feeding people, and using social situations to put people at ease were pioneering grassroots tactics that leveraged the domestic knowledge these women already had, feeding spoonfuls of suffrage to communities through unexpected and unassuming channels.

Kumin, the author of The Hamilton Cookbook, expands this forgotten history, she shows us that, in spite of massive opposition, these women brilliantly wove charm and wit into their message. Filled with actual historic recipes (“mix the crust with tact and velvet gloves, using no sarcasm, especially with the upper crust”) that evoke the spirited flavor of feminism and food movements, All Stirred Up re-activates the taste of an era and carries us back through time.

Kumin shows that these suffragettes were far from the militant, stern caricatures their detractors made them out to be. Long before they had the vote, women enfranchised themselves through the subversive and savvy power of the palate.

Brenda Jackson has a 2-book Harlequin Desire bundle for $2.99, listed as the FORGED OF STEELE COLLECTION, which includes CLAIMED BY A STEELE and SEDUCED BY A STEELE.

  2. Chrissy says:

If you are a James Bond fan, all of the original novels, except for CASINO ROYALE, are on sale for $0.99 each. They are all good reads.

  3. Lisa F says:

Some fine choices! The Milan and the Quinn are tops, and I really am curious about the Kumin!

  4. lovesotters says:

I literally bought the Quinn two hours before the sale began! Ah well, hope she’ll see more of the profits that way.

  5. Susan says:

@lovesotters: Can you return it then repurchase?

  6. Francene says:

@lovesotters If you bought as a Kindle ebook, you can go to your accout and under Manage your content and devices, find the book listing for the title you bought. For the first week after your purchase, you can return the book for a refund. I have done this, waiting for the funds to show up and then repurchased later that day at the cheaper price.

  7. lovesotters says:

    Thank you—I had no idea

  8. Jeannette says:

FYI – Just saw (and got) the Star Series by Susan Grant. All 7 books are on sale for $0.00 on Amazon. Its been a while since I read them (the paperbacks are on my shelves), but you can’t beat the price for decent Sci-Fi romance.

  9. Lauren says:

If you want to read the Bridgerton series, do not start with Romancing Mr. Bridgerton. I absolutely adore the book, but it has a big reveal that might spoil some of the fun of the first three books.

  10. Leftcoaster says:

The Ancillary series are a comfort read and listen for me. I really liked the first book and loved the arc across all 3. It’s not a space opera though. Adjoa Andoh’s narration of the trilogy brings depth and richness to the writing and I’ve listened to all 3 more than once and that’s after having read the book multiple times.

  11. Vicki says:

I read the first Bond novel at age 10 when it was serialized in the local paper, I think it was the Trinidad Guardian. I was sitting in a car parked outside the Angostura headquarters when I read the first episode and the two are always linked in my memory. I did not understand it all that well; I may need to give it another read. Thanks to Chrissy for the head’s up and the memories.
