  • Brazen and the Beast

Brazen and the Beast by Sarah MacLean

RECOMMENDED: Brazen and the Beast by Sarah MacLean is $1.99 for today only according to her Twitter! I didn’t see it on today’s KDD page, but there are also a LOT OF ROMANCES (Jasmine Guillory, Helen Hoang, etc). Carrie gave this one an A:

Well, that was just delightful. I loved every single minute of Brazen and the Beast, even the melodramatic bits.

    The Lady’s Plan

When Lady Henrietta Sedley declares her twenty-ninth year her own, she has plans to inherit her father’s business, to make her own fortune, and to live her own life. But first, she intends to experience a taste of the pleasure she’ll forgo as a confirmed spinster. Everything is going perfectly…until she discovers the most beautiful man she’s ever seen tied up in her carriage and threatening to ruin the Year of Hattie before it’s even begun.

    The Bastard’s Proposal

When he wakes in a carriage at Hattie’s feet, Whit, a king of Covent Garden known to all the world as Beast, can’t help but wonder about the strange woman who frees him—especially when he discovers she’s headed for a night of pleasure . . . on his turf. He is more than happy to offer Hattie all she desires…for a price.

    An Unexpected Passion

Soon, Hattie and Whit find themselves rivals in business and pleasure. She won’t give up her plans; he won’t give up his power . . . and neither of them sees that if they’re not careful, they’ll have no choice but to give up everything . . . including their hearts.

  • The Good Luck Charm

The Good Luck Charm by Helena Hunting

The Good Luck Charm by Helena Hunting is $2.99! If you’re looking for a sweet, second chance romance, readers on Goodreads recommend this one. But others wished the heroine had more of a backbone when dealing with things.

Is it love, or is she just his good luck charm? New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Helena Hunting brilliantly captures the hilarity and heartache of first love and second chances in her sexy new romantic comedy.

Lilah isn’t sure what hurt worse: the day Ethan left her to focus on his hockey career or the day he came back eight years later. He might think they can pick up just where they left off, but she’s no longer that same girl and never wants to be again.

Ethan wants his glory days back. And that includes having Lilah by his side. With her, he was magic. They were magic. All he has to do is make her see that.

Just when Lilah might finally be ready to let Ethan in, though, she finds out their reunion might have nothing to do with love and everything to do with improving his game. But Ethan’s already lost her once, and even if it costs him his career, he’ll do anything to keep from losing her again.

  • Alpha’s Promise

    Alpha’s Promise by Rebecca Zanetti

Alpha’s Promise by Rebecca Zanetti is $2.99! The hero is a Viking vampire demon (sounds like a Sandra Hill hero) and the heroine is a physicist. This is the tenth book in the Dark Protectors series and if anyone knows whether these can be read out of order, let us know in the comments!

    To hell and back . . .

Though he has vampire, demon, and Viking blood rushing through his veins, Ivar Kjeidsen’s soul-crushing trip to hell broke him in ways he can barely fathom. One vow keeps the deadly immortal standing: To rescue the vampire brother who had sacrificed freedom for him. To do that, Ivar needs the help of a brilliant physicist with wary brown eyes, fierce brilliance, and skin that’s way too soft.

Dr. Promise Williams understands the underpinnings of the universe but has never figured out the human beings inhabiting it. Her function is to think—and not feel—until she’s touched by a vampire who’s nowhere near human. The primal hunger in his eyes awakens feelings in her that defy calculation. As she shows him the way to step between worlds, he brands her with a pleasure that could last more than a lifetime . . .

  • Heart of the Fae

Heart of the Fae by Emma Hamm

Heart of the Fae by Emma Hamm is 99c at Amazon! This is a Beauty and the Beast retelling and the first in The Otherworld series. This one ends on a cliffhanger and continues in the sequel, but it looks like the rest of the series has a more standalone feel. I’ve seen this recommended on my Twitter feed. Have you read it?

Beauty and the Beast and Irish Mythology mix in this sweeping retelling of the beloved fairytale!

    Once upon a time…

A plague sweeps across the emerald hills of Uí Néill, leaving a young midwife’s father with months to live. To save her people, Sorcha makes a deal with a dangerous Fae. She must travel across the sea, through merrow and kelpie lands, to find a forgotten king on a crumbling throne.

Born king of the Seelie Fae, Eamonn fought battles unnumbered to uphold honor, duty, and freedom… until his twin brother sank a blade between his shoulders. Crystals grew from the wound, splitting open skin and bone. His people banished him to a cursed isle for his disfigurement, now king of criminals and fools.

With the help of brownies, pixies, and will-o’-the-wisps, Sorcha battles to break through his crystalline shell and persuade him to take back his stolen throne.

This determined beauty could come dangerously close to stealing his beastly heart.

  1. Ren Benton says:

THE BRIDE TEST and THE KISS QUOTIENT by Helen Hoang are each $1.99.

AYESHA AT LAST by Uzma Jalaluddin is $1.99. Muslim Pride & Prejudice.

GODS OF JADE AND SHADOW by Silvia Moreno-Garcia is $2.99. Jazz Age with Mexican mythology.

THE TOLL by Cherie Priest is $2.99. Southern Gothic horror.

  2. NomadiCat says:

@Ren Benton: Yay! Those are all on my TBR list! Thank you!!!

    _______

BRAZEN AND THE BEAST didn’t work for me on a lot of levels. The other characters kept talking about how smart and business savvy Hattie was and she barely acted that way on the page. MacLean can write chemistry like nobody’s business, but what I really needed and didn’t get out of this one was competence porn.

It’s still cute and sweet and charming, but I don’t think it delivers on the promise of the description.

  3. Laurel says:

Brazen and the Beast is one of those books that everyone else seemed to love, and I wanted to love it too – but it didn’t work for me at all. The hero and heroine did not behave in believable ways, and I didn’t buy their relationship at all. Your mileage may vary, but I wouldn’t recommend it.

  4. NomadiCat says:

Oh snap! LET’S MAKE RAMEN: A COMIC BOOK COOK BOOK is also a Kindle Daily Deal for $2.99!!

The illustrator, Sarah Becan, is a Chicago-based artist I’ve been following for years who tends to do a lot of food-related stuff. I have her guide to cooking the perfect steak taped to the inside of a kitchen cabinet and it is GOLD. I’m so excited that her little project that could is getting love out in the world!

  5. Gloriamarie Amalfitano says:

As far as I can tell, and I have read a ton of them, none of Zanetti’s series are stand alones nor can they be read out of order, not if someone wants to know who the characters and the stakes are.

  6. Amy says:

Burnout: The Secret to Unlocking the Stress Cycle is a KDD today as well read about it here and checked it out it was really helpful.

  7. The first time I read Brazen and the Beast (first Sarah MacLean book I read and almost last…lol but now I’m a fan)I enjoyed the premise a lot as well as the characters but had a hard time getting into the overall plot. However, I saw the review of it here and decided it was time to reread it. I decided to read the first book first and I honestly enjoyed both of them very much, especially Brazen and the Beast.

  8. harthad says:

Ooo, “Gods of Jade and Shadow” is so good! Go snap it up for that price! Not a romance; fantasy with romantic elements.

  9. Deborah says:

*mumble* I meant to close that anchor tag. Sorry!

  10. Kay says:

Wow, thank you for the heads up on Sapphire Flames, Deborah. I just one-clicked, even though I haven’t read Wildfire yet.

The Wallflower Wager by Tessa Dare is also on sale for $1.99.

  11. JTReader says:

@Deborah: Thank you! I’m a big Ilona Andrews fan and one-clicked right away.

  12. Erica says:

I also really loved On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous and The Ten Thousand Doors of January on the Kindle sale. And The Priory of the Orange Tree. I’m glad I’ve already read a lot that’s on sale or my wallet would be in trouuuuuuble!

  13. Kareni says:

    I mentioned this once before.

Mindtouch (The Dreamhealers Book 1) by M.C.A. Hogarth is free. It’s an asexual romance.

  14. shel says:

A Wallflower Christmas by Lisa Kleypas is $1.99.
This one is shorter, maybe around 150 pages?

  15. Leigh Kramer says:

Brazen and the Beast was one of my favorites of 2019! Team Hattie and Whit forever. I love what MacLean is doing in this series.

  16. Kaitlin says:

Umm… all of the books that I have been waiting to buy until they went on sale are on sale today. Which means I just bought 6 books. I guess that kind of defeats the purpose of a book budget.

  17. Tam says:

I wanted more tension and relationship-building in Sapphire Flames, and less action. Slow down! Smoulder at each other a bit! Oh well.

I find I’m reading a lot of fantasy books for my romance hit nowadays. I just struggled through an Alyssa Cole and then DNF an Eloisa James, and then picked up T Kingfisher’s Clocktaur Wars where the romance was SO good I wanted to immediately read the whole thing again so I could savour it properly.

  18. Lisa F says:

NomadiCat – after a few rereadings, that’s how I felt about BATB too.

  19. EJ says:

I didn’t like Brazen and the Beast and DNF. Hattie’s qualities seemed too good to be true, also even though I admire the idea, plots where the heroine sets out to lose her virginity make me cringe because that was such a bad idea in the 19th century for so many reasons.

Also, I deeply admire Sarah MacLean, but her writing is really repetitive and could use some heavier editing.
