You did it! We figured this one out! It is a truth universally acknowledged (by me for certain) that the Bitchery pretty much knows everything, and really, it's true. Scroll down to see the solution for this HaBO - and many thanks!
This HaBO is from Lara, who is trying to find an old favorite of her grandma’s collection:
I find myself reminiscing about my Grandma (an OG smart bitch with a love of closed-door Romances of the Western variety…sexy scenes were considered too much mush). A few months after she passed away, I found myself walking through the romance section of my library and picked up a Western while thinking of her…my very first romance nearly a decade ago (now Regencies with marriages of convenience are my catnip). For the life of me can’t remember the title and I desperately want to read it again.
Here is what I do remember: The hero is a widower/farmer raising a couple little ones by himself. He is grouchy and doesn’t particularly care for the heroine at first, but needs help with his kids. The heroine is a happy-go-lucky (I don’t want to say ditsy…perhaps lacking an education?) drifter who goes wherever she feels a calling to help. Her kindness and goodness end up breaking down the hero’s walls and he fears she will leave.
What I can distinctly remember is the heroine always stating proverbs incorrectly. For example she might say “A horse divided against itself cannot gallop” when the phrase is really “A house divided against itself cannot stand”, same message just a different way of putting it. At first this greatly annoys the hero, but over time he comes to love her sayings and won’t let anyone correct her. I believe this may have been part of a series and the cover had a woman wishing on a dandelion on the front.
I’m certain that if any one can help me find this book, it’s the collective knowledge of the Bitchery!
I feel like we could fill volumes talking about our grandmas, nanas, or moms who had romance collections.
FOREVERMORE by Cathy Marie Hake? Published in 2008, dandelion blowing cover, and filed under religious romance so probably chaste.
Like a dandelion in the wind, Hope Ladley blows from one farm to the next, helping cook for the field hands during the harvest. Illiterate and often twisting cliches and Bible verses into mind-boggling observations, Hope leaves widower Jakob Stauffer baffled by her unconventional ways. But her sunny disposition and unstinting love make changes of a different kind around the place. His little daughter and the pregnant sister he’s shielding from an abusive husband adore Hope, and things are getting accomplished even if Hope’s methods are unique.
Then Jakob’s brother-in-law shows up and threatens the newfound peace and happiness of the farm. With Jakob’s future uncertain and his heart tangled, can the farmer convince Hope to take root and remain as his wife?
2nd for Forevermore by Hake. That was the first of her books I read. I binged them all after that one. My favorite is Fancy Pants. With the heroine disguised as a male for part of the book.
YES! It is Forevermore! Thank you so much Bitchery ☺️☺️☺️
