Historical Romance, Tiffany Reisz, & More

Amazon’s Kindle Daily Deals today are all mystery and thrillers that have been made into movies and TV shows!

  • Alex, Approximately

    Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett

Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett is $1.99! This is a YA romance with movie nerdery and an enemies to lovers romance. Some readers found the heroine to be prickly and pretentious. However, others said they couldn’t stop smiling while reading this one.

In this delightfully charming teen spin on You’ve Got Mail, the one guy Bailey Rydell can’t stand is actually the boy of her dreams—she just doesn’t know it yet.

Classic movie buff Bailey “Mink” Rydell has spent months crushing on a witty film geek she only knows online by “Alex.” Two coasts separate the teens until Bailey moves in with her dad, who lives in the same California surfing town as her online crush.

Faced with doubts (what if he’s a creep in real life—or worse?), Bailey doesn’t tell Alex she’s moved to his hometown. Or that she’s landed a job at the local tourist-trap museum. Or that she’s being heckled daily by the irritatingly hot museum security guard, Porter Roth—a.k.a. her new arch-nemesis. But life is whole lot messier than the movies, especially when Bailey discovers that tricky fine line between hate, love, and whatever-it-is she’s starting to feel for Porter.

And as the summer months go by, Bailey must choose whether to cling to a dreamy online fantasy in Alex or take a risk on an imperfect reality with Porter. The choice is both simpler and more complicated than she realizes, because Porter Roth is hiding a secret of his own: Porter is Alex…Approximately.

  • The Unexpected Duchess

The Unexpected Duchess by Valerie Bowman

The Unexpected Duchess by Valerie Bowman is $1.99! This is the first book in her Playful Brides series. In this romance, the heroine is getting in the way of the hero wooing a girl to fulfill part of a promise to a dying friend. Readers compared the book to Cyrano de Bergerac with the twist. However, others felt it was too heavy on the drama. Have you read this one?

Is there any greater surprise than falling deeply, madly in love?

    In This Battle of Wits

Lady Lucy Upton’s tongue may be too sharp to attract suitors but her heart is good, and when her painfully shy friend Cassandra needs help she devises a brilliant scheme to help her discourage an unwanted suitor, the Duke of Claringdon. Lucy will hide behind the hedgerow and tell Cass just what to say to discourage the Duke of Claringdon…but it turns out that he’s made of sterner stuff than either of them anticipated. And Lucy is shocked to discover that tangling with the tenacious man is the most fun she’s had in ages.

    Kisses Are the Best Weapon

Lord Derek Hunt made a promise to his dying friend to marry the demure Cassandra, and for a man who wants nothing more than peace and quiet after the horrors of war, she’ll make the perfect bride. If only the impudent Miss Upton will let him court the girl! Doing battle is the last thing on his mind, but bantering with Lucy behind the bushes is too tempting to resist. And the spoils of this war just may be true love…

  • The Night Mark

The Night Mark by Tiffany Reisz

The Night Mark by Tiffany Reisz is $2.99! This is a time travel/time slippage book with some romantic elements. However, be warned that this book deals a lot with grief, if you are particularly sensitive to that. Despite this book being different from Reisz’ Original Sinners series, readers say that the writing is still as compelling.

She has nothing to live for in the present, but finds there’s something worth dying for in the past…

From Tiffany Reisz, the international bestselling storyteller behind The Bourbon Thief and The Original Sinners series, comes an enthralling new novel about a woman swept away by the tides who awakens to find herself in 1921, reunited with the husband she’s been mourning for four years. Fans of Kate Morton and Diana Gabaldon will fall in love with the mystery, romance and beauty of an isolated South Carolina lighthouse, where a power greater than love works its magic.

  • The Hellion

    The Hellion by Christi Caldwell

The Hellion by Christi Caldwell is $1.99 at Amazon! This is the first book in the Wicked Wallflowers series, and the second book is also on sale. Some readers felt confused at the info dump of characters and plot points, as I believe this series is a spin-off. Meanwhile, others loved the chemistry between the main characters. It has a 3.9-star rating on Goodreads.

USA Today bestselling author Christi Caldwell’s Wicked Wallflowers series burns hot as two rivals meet in the flesh and feel the heat…

Adair Thorne has just watched his gaming-hell dream disappear into a blaze of fire and ash, and he’s certain that his competitors, the Killorans, are behind it. His fury and passion burn even hotter when he meets Cleopatra Killoran, a tart-mouthed vixen who mocks him at every turn. If she were anyone else but the enemy, she’d ignite a desire in him that would be impossible to control.

No one can make Cleopatra do anything. That said, she’ll do whatever it takes to protect her siblings―even if that means being sponsored by their rivals for a season in order to land a noble husband. But she will not allow her head to be turned by the infuriating and darkly handsome Adair Thorne.

There’s only one thing that threatens the rules of the game: Cleopatra’s secret. It could unravel the families’ tenuous truce and shatter the unpredictably sinful romance mounting between the hellion…and a scoundrel who could pass for the devil himself.

  1. Mandy Aguilar says:

All the thumbs up for Alex, Approximately! I love everything Jenn Bennett writes. Her books are a little steamier than your usual YA contemporaries, and she writes great dialogue.

  2. JILL Q. says:

Another thumbs up for Alex, Approximately!

  3. ms bookjunkie says:

Heads up! I just grabbed Alyssa Cole’s A Hope Divided for $2.99 on kindle. This makes sense as An Unconditional Freedom releases on Tuesday…

  4. Kathy says:

Whoa, just checking on the Alyssa Cole. The new book is over £8.00 here in the UK. That seems so expensive. Then I think about all the plagiarism bs and wonder if a fair price for a fair product is the way to go… Nevertheless, that may have priced me out of the market. I can handle five, even six at a pinch, but eight? Wonder why.

  5. ms bookjunkie says:

@Kathy The price is higher because it’s a Trade Paperback, not Mass Market.

  6. Bre says:

I loved Alex Approximately! I adored the characters, I didn’t want book to end.

  7. MaryK says:

Trade Paperbacks are the worst! I can’t bring myself to pay that much, especially for the ebook version. It’s not a question of whether the book is worth that much. It’s about whether or not I can afford to spend that much.

  8. Darlynne says:

@MaryK: … for a book you can’t ever own in its entirety. I hear you.

  9. Lora says:

I returned that Tiffany Reisz to the library unfinished. I couldn’t get into it. But after reading The Red, honestly it seems like I’m just not a fan of her writing style, so if you like her, you’d probably love this book and it’s a good deal.

  10. Leigh Kramer says:

I loved The Night Mark! It’s a Southern Gothic, so totally different from Reisz’s erotic romances. The story explored grief in such interesting ways, almost a “magical thinking” wish fulfillment.” And there was a great love story!

  11. MaryK says:

I was bummed when Jenn Bennett switched to YA and have been resisting them because I liked her adult novels and generally don’t care for contemp YA. These comments finally convinced me to try Alex, Approximately and I loved it.

  12. MaryK says:

ETA – Jenn Bennett has a YA fantasy novel coming out in September! I like those!! It’ll be hardcover and the ebook is $11!!! /head desk (My library is going to get so tired of hearing from me.)

  13. Kathleen says:

Coming back to fully endorse Alex, Approximately!! I haven’t read any of Jenn Bennett’s other work but she’s great at YA. I picked up her other YA Starry Nights from my library last night. Definitely going to keep an eye on her.
