After all his work to get clean, Lyle’s been pumped full of poison—and a neighbor with a peephole reports seeing a scruffy, pink-haired girl fleeing the scene.
Now Eve and Roarke must venture into the gang territory where Lyle used to run, and the ugly underground world of tattoo parlors and strip joints where everyone has taken a wrong turn somewhere. The Ruin of Kings
Author: Jenn Lyons
Released: February 5, 2019 by Tor Books
Genre: Science Fiction/Fantasy
Series: A Chorus of Dragons #1There are the old stories. And then there’s what actually happens.
Kihrin is a bastard orphan who grew upon storybook tales of long-lost princes and grand quests. When he is claimed against his will as the long-lost son of a treasonous prince, Kihrin finds that being a long-lost prince isn’t what the storybooks promised.
Far from living the dream, Kihrin finds himself practically a prisoner, at the mercy of his new family’s power plays and ambitions. He also discovers that the storybooks have lied about a lot of other things things, too: dragons, demons, gods, prophecies, true love, and how the hero always wins.
Then again, maybe he’s not the hero, for Kihrin isn’t destined to save the empire.
He’s destined to destroy it . . .
Uniting the worldbuilding of a Brandon Sanderson with the storytelling verve of a Patrick Rothfuss, debut author Jenn Lyons delivers an entirely new and captivating fantasy epic. Prepare to meet the genre’s next star.
Amanda says: I’ve been hearing about this fantasy debut for ages!

Series: The Truitts #1He’s her ticket into high society…
Banking heiress Ursula Nunes has lived her life on the fringes of Philadelphia’s upper class. Her Jewish heritage means she’s never quite been welcomed by society’s elite…and her quick temper has never helped, either.
A faux engagement to the scion of the mid-Atlantic’s most storied family might work to repair her rumpled reputation and gain her entrée to the life she thinks she wants…if she can ignore the way her “betrothed” makes her feel warm all over and stay focused on her goal.
She’s his ticket out…
Former libertine John Thaddeus “Jay” Truitt is hardly the man to teach innocent women about propriety. But when the game turns too personal, all bets are off…

I’m interested in:
Wild Life by Molly Gloss: “In 1905, a cigar-smoking, feminist writer of popular adventure novels for women encounters Bigfoot”
And
Watcher in the Woods by Kelley Armstrong: The next Rockton novel. Note: Don’t read out of order
Can’t wait for How to Be a Movie Star by TJ Klune on February 12.
Ooo! Will have to request “Immoral Code” and the new Theresa Romain from the library!
February 5: The marketing department for BLACK LEOPARD, RED WOLF by Marlon James has decided to run with “an African Game of Thrones.” While I hope that successfully attracts readers, I hope more that it’s less rapey.
Added POLARIS RISING to my list.
Oh, just take my money for Appetites & Vices….
I am also looking forward to Lady Derring Takes a Lover by Julie Anne Long.
Faith Hunter’s new Soulwood book, Circle of the Moon, comes out at the end of the month.
Looking forward to Theresa Romain’s book you featured.
Can’t wait for Devil’s Daughter by Lisa Kleypas
I just finished Sally Thorne’s new one, 99 Percent Mine, which I have been impatiently waiting for since The Hating Game (sidenote: bit nervous about the film adaptation). Loved it. Bit different to THG. Although, it’s left me a bit depressed because there is simply no chance of any real man ever being as wonderful as Tom.
The only negative was the very culturally specific type of betrayal I felt at an excellent author’s repeated use of “St. Patty’s Day”. Any Irish reading this will understand, lol.
Highly recommend. Quite an unusual romantic comedy writer.
This was going to be a slim month for me with just the latest Rockton mystery from Kelley Armstrong and The Rosie Result from Graeme Simsion, but now I see all kinds of books I need to read. I’m feeling distinctly grabby hands about a lady Bow Street Runner.
KJ Charles has a new book out: Any Old Diamonds.
I have been so swallowed up by moving, life and finishing this book, that I have been mostly re-reading books. (I have just bought 11 books! Most of them books that have been on my wishlist for awhile. Or that I thought I had, but didn’t.) I did just finish Cast in Oblivion by Michelle Sagara (though that might have technically be a January book.) I really reoommend it. It was a bit slow in the beginning, but soo good. 🙂
I’m going to get the new In Death book, but I’m going to rerun it if I don’t like it. The last one was so bad that I was upset that I wasted my money on it. There have been some misses in the series, but “Leverage In Death” was on another level of bad.
I’ve got preorders out there for On the Come Up, Lady Derring Takes a Lover, Polaris Rising, Devil’s Daughter, An Unconditional Freedom by Alyssa Cole, and Rayne and Delilah’s Midnite Matinee by Jeff Zentner. It’s a busy month, what can I say?
@Scene Stealer oh no, I was so hoping Leverage in Death would be good, I’ve been on my library’s hold list forever. Can you tell me what made it bad or would that just be spoilers?
Not convinced that there can be too many assassin nuns.
@Dreamingintrees, the plot was convoluted. Eve named called her victims, something that has occurred in the last 3 books, and her cursing was over the top and out of place. The story was flat and just didn’t work. I almost returned the book because I just couldn’t finish it.
@Scene Stealer, thank you! I’m definitely not going to buy it now, and might drop off the waiting list. I recall the name calling from the prior two and am sad to see that continue.
