    Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel

RECOMMENDEDSleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel is $1.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and it’s being price-matched. It’s a scifi novel with some great female characters. Readers say that though this scifi is a little darker and less “feel good,” the loved it. However, some felt a bulk of the book was just setup and information dumping for the next book. It has a 3.8-star rating on Goodreads. Elyse enjoyed this one and I really loved the audiobook.

Sleeping Giants is a thriller fueled by an earthshaking mystery—and a fight to control a gargantuan power.

A girl named Rose is riding her new bike near her home in Deadwood, South Dakota, when she falls through the earth. She wakes up at the bottom of a square hole, its walls glowing with intricate carvings. But the firemen who come to save her peer down upon something even stranger: a little girl in the palm of a giant metal hand.

Seventeen years later, the mystery of the bizarre artifact remains unsolved—its origins, architects, and purpose unknown. Its carbon dating defies belief; military reports are redacted; theories are floated, then rejected.

But some can never stop searching for answers.

Rose Franklin is now a highly trained physicist leading a top secret team to crack the hand’s code. And along with her colleagues, she is being interviewed by a nameless interrogator whose power and purview are as enigmatic as the provenance of the relic. What’s clear is that Rose and her compatriots are on the edge of unraveling history’s most perplexing discovery—and figuring out what it portends for humanity. But once the pieces of the puzzle are in place, will the result prove to be an instrument of lasting peace or a weapon of mass destruction?

  • Reed

    Reed by Sawyer Bennett

Reed by Sawyer Bennett is $1.99! This is book ten in the Cold Fury Hockey series and can be read on its own. This book is on the shorter side and features an opposites attract romance between the hero and his neighbor. Readers say this series is like candy and they can’t get enough of them. However, some didn’t really like the portrayal of other women aside from the heroine.

Hockey season may be over, but in New York Times bestselling author Sawyer Bennett’s new novel, a Carolina Cold Fury heartbreaker is heating things up off the ice and eager to score with the girl next door.

No one skates like Reed Olson. In the off-season, no one plays like him either. After back-to-back championships, Reed craves a different kind of action. Good thing there’s no shortage of women ready for a summer fling with a sports star. Reed has a specific type—blond, busty, not too bright—and a little black book full of options. But when his bed starts rocking, it’s his unexpectedly sexy neighbor who comes knocking. And the brainy beauty is impossible to ignore.

Josie Ives desperately needs something her celebrity neighbor obviously doesn’t: sleep. His headboard banging against the wall is keeping her up at night—not to mention inspiring some very naughty dreams. Reed is everything she imagined: a little too good-looking, with a body that puts Greek gods to shame. But he’s also funny and charming—a tempting combination. Josie’s the opposite of his type, yet the chemistry between them is undeniable. Their friendship certainly has its benefits, and it’s heating up to be so much more.

  • My Sweet Folly

My Sweet Folly by Laura Kinsale

My Sweet Folly by Laura Kinsale is $1.99 at Amazon! This book sounds absolutely bananas. Readers really loved the heroine and how witty she was. However, given the bananas quality of the book, some said the pacing is a bit all over the place. Have you read this one?

An innocent long-distance correspondence leads to complications in this Regency romance by the New York Times–bestselling author of For My Lady’s Heart.

Married to an elderly man, Folie Hamilton finds her lonely days brightened by light-hearted letters from her husband’s cousin, Lt. Robert Cambourne, stationed in Calcutta for the British East India Company. Robert calls her his princess, and she dubs him her knight errant. Unbidden love blossoms, yet upon the death of her husband, Robert’s last letter shatters her heart with three words: I am married.

Four years later, Robert summons Folie and her stepdaughter to his estate in England. The girl is his ward, so they must go. The man who greets them, however, is nothing like the charming lieutenant of his letters. This Robert is demented. Screaming at ghosts in demonic rage, he is paranoid and frightening. Yet her body longs to caress his perfect features, to hold his tall, angular body, to find the man who once captured her heart . . .

Someone is poisoning him, spinning his brain into madness, of that Robert is sure, but who—and why? Haunted by his dead wife, the one thing his tortured mind understands is that he must keep Folie safe. Folie, with her beautiful expressive eyes, the only warmth in his nightmare world . . .

Nominated for a RITA award, My Sweet Folly is another unforgettable love story filled with passion and suspense from the author of Flowers From the Storm, whose work has been praised by Julia Quinn as “unfailingly brilliant and beautiful.”

  • Mary Jo Putney’s Lost Lords Bundle

Mary Jo Putney’s Lost Lords Bundle by Mary Jo Putney

Mary Jo Putney’s Lost Lords Bundle is $2.99! This is a historical romance bundle with full-length novels! With this bundle, you get five (yes, five!) historical romances for less than $3. Have any of you read the Lost Lords series? Which one was your favorite?

    Loving a Lost Lord

In the first of a dazzling series, Mary Jo Putney introduces the Lost Lords—maverick childhood friends with a flair for defying convention. Each is about to discover the woman who is his perfect match—but perfection doesn’t come easily, even for the noble Duke of Ashton. . .

Battered by the sea, Adam remembers nothing of his past, his ducal rank, nor of the shipwreck that almost claimed his life. However, he’s delighted to hear that the golden-haired vision tending his wounds is his wife. Mariah’s name and face may not be familiar, but her touch, her warmth, feel deliciously right. . .

When Mariah Clarke prayed for a way to deter a bullying suitor, she didn’t imagine she’d find the answer washed ashore on a desolate beach. Convincing Adam that he is her husband is surprisingly easy. Resisting the temptation to act his wife, in every way, will prove anything but. And now a passion begun in fantasy has become dangerously real—and completely irresistible. . .

    Never Less Than A Lady

New York Times bestselling author Mary Jo Putney continues her stunning Lost Lords series with this stirring, sensual story of a rebellious nobleman drawn to a lovely widow with a shocking past.

As the sole remaining heir to the Earl of Daventry, Alexander Randall knows his duty: find a wife and sire a son of his own. The perfect bride for a man in his position would be a biddable young girl of good breeding. But the woman who haunts his imagination is Julia Bancroft—a village midwife with a dark secret that thrusts her into Randall’s protection.

    Nowhere Near Respectable

Mary Jo Putney’s riveting Lost Lords series unleashes a high stakes royal plot—which may prove easier for Damian Mackenzie to handle than his own unruly desire. . .

He’s a bastard and a gambler and society’s favorite reprobate. But to Lady Kiri Lawford he’s a hero—braver than the smugglers he rescues her from, more honorable than any lord she’s ever met, and far more attractive than any man has a right to be. How can she not fall in love. . .?

    No Longer a Gentleman

Grey Sommers, Lord Wyndham, never met a predicament he couldn’t charm his way out of. Then a tryst with a government official’s wife during a bit of casual espionage in France condemns him to a decade in a dungeon, leaving him a shadow of his former self. Yet his greatest challenge may be the enigmatic spy sent to free his body–the only woman who might heal his soul.

Cassie Fox lost everything in the chaos of revolution, leaving only a determination to help destroy Napoleon’s empire through her perilous calling. Rescuing Grey is merely one more mission. She hadn’t counted on a man with the stark beauty of a ravaged angel, whose desperate courage and vulnerability thaw her frozen heart. But a spy and a lord are divided by an impassable gulf even if they manage to survive one last, terrifying mission. . ..

    Sometimes A Rogue. . .

Even the most proper young lady yearns for adventure. But when the very well bred Miss Sarah Clarke-Townsend impulsively takes the place of her pregnant twin, it puts her own life at risk. If the kidnappers after her sister discover they’ve abducted Sarah instead, she will surely pay with her life. . .

Rob Carmichael survived his disastrous family by turning his back on his heritage and becoming a formidable Bow Street Runner with a talent for rescuing damsels in distress. But Sarah is one damsel who is equal to whatever comes. Whether racing across Ireland with her roguish rescuer or throwing herself into his arms, she challenges Rob at every turn.

  1. Jumping into the comments to say GET SLEEPING GIANTS ON AUDIO!!!!

(Yes, all those exclamation points are needed.)

I loved this series (which was rec’d to me by the Bree half of Kit Rocha). I’m picky about audiobooks, but Sleeping Giants’ epistolary style makes it amazing on audio. They use a full cast, and it’s like you’re listening in on military debriefings and diaries. I found it captivating.

The romance is…not ideal, but the series is excellent. The trilogy is complete now, too, if that’s important to anyone. The last book gets heavier and philosophical, but worked for me.

Sleeping Giants, though, was like being wrapped up in a mystery. I didn’t mind the slow reveals, and I loved the science and linguistic elements.

    /end fangirling recommendation

  2. Janet S says:

My Sweet Folly is in my top ten. The characters meet through letters and spend years corresponding before laying eyes on each other, which is my favorite catnip. The hero is really damaged, and there is no hiding the total asshat behavior. Laura Kinsale knows how to write a jerk that totally melts my heart, or at least gets a pass. When I reread I skim much of the middle, it’s a bit of a wild ride.

  3. Karen D says:

Well apparently I already own the Mary Jo Putney bundle. Why I have I not started reading it???

  4. Karen D says:

Also mean to add that the Laura Kinsale is in my library’s Hoopla collection, so if you use that app, you might check for it.

  5. DonnaMarie says:

His head board banging the wall is keeping her awake. I’ve read that somewhere before….

But seriously, doesn’t common courtesy, not to mention good manners, tell to not put your bed on the wall you share with a neighbor?

  6. Katie Lynn says:

I just finished Reed (from the library), it’s okay. I’ve found the characters from the more recent Cold Fury books aren’t as fully fleshed out and the stories not as good as the earlier books. I’ve been getting the last several through the library as I can’t justify the purchase, and I’m unlikley to read them again. The first four or five books are quite good, though.

I’ve read the first couple from that Mary Jo Putney series and really enjoyed them.

  7. Ren Benton says:

My last apartment shared a bathroom wall with the neighbor, and I spent years trying to think of a non-awkward way to provide him with instructions on how to urinate without sounding like Niagara Falls having an orgasm. I don’t have a penis and know how to pee quietly with one, so I presume this is knowledge all men possess and choose not to use in favor of announcing their bodily functions to everyone within a 50-foot radius. I’m sure if the bedrooms weren’t on opposite ends, he’d have wanted me to be aware of what he was doing there, too.

  8. Sandra says:

@DonnaMarie: One of the Julie James books. (The title escapes me at the moment.) She’s in a hotel room, and they’re going at it next door, then he ends up dead. She ends up under FBI protection.

  9. Katie Lynn says:

@Donnamarie and @Sandra that’s also the setup for Wallbanger by Alice Clayton.

  10. ms bookjunkie says:

@Ren Benton I’d like to provide my upstairs neighbor with those instructions…

  11. Stefka says:

FYI – My Sweet Folly is also $1.99 at iBooks! #catnip

  12. Emily C says:

@Sandra- the Julie James you are thinking of is Something About You, the first book in the FBI/US Attorney series.

  13. Kristen says:

Mary Jo Putney is fabulous. Snap up the Lost Lords at that price! I think ‘Never Less Than A Lady is my favorite but they are all fantastic.
