You did it! We figured this one out! It is a truth universally acknowledged (by me for certain) that the Bitchery pretty much knows everything, and really, it's true. Scroll down to see the solution for this HaBO - and many thanks!
This HaBO is from Marnie, who is hoping to find this historical romance:
I read this book about 10 years ago. I do not remember many details of the story or the characters, but the location caught my attention as it was a place I visited and loved as a child. The location was Fort Steele in southern BC, Canada.
I remember that at least part of the story happened in the winter and involved the hero and heroine being snowed in, maybe?
I remember it was a historical western, set in Canada in the 1890s. There was a part when the hero or heroine or both travel by horse through a snow storm or blizzard.
I always love reading romances set in places I know. Does anyone know this HaBO?
Maybe because of the description of Canada and snow, but the first book that came to mind when I read this HaBO was the beloved “Mrs. Mike”, although it’s most likely not the book you’re looking for.
I thought of Mrs. Mike, too. Marnie, was the hero a Mountie?
Wasn’t Mrs. Mike set farther north and east? Loved Mrs. Mike – need to find my copy and give it a reread.
I remember Mrs. Mike as one of the saddest books I ever read.
I can’t remember if the hero was a Mountie or not. The only other detail I think* I remember is that the cover was predominately forest green….
It really was the location that caught my attention.
I read the description of Mrs. Mike, and I don’t think that is it. But it looks like a good read!
Have you thought of checking with the Public Library at Fort Steele? The Librarians might know or be able to find out, sice it relates to their town.
Librarians have the magic touch!
It sounds like a book by Kate Bridges. She did a series of books about the Mounties and civilians at a Canadian fort but I don’t know if it was Fort Steele. I’d look it up but I’m not sure which box they’re in (O_O)
As a kid growing up in Canada, Mounties were the heroes. And I loved Mrs. Mike, too. Even the sad parts. As I grew up and learned more about some of Canada’s problematic history, some of the shine faded a bit. But there is still something about a man in a red coat and a wide brimmed hat.
@MZ, I did check in with them, no such luck!
@EC Spurlock: I thought of Kate Bridges, too, but the only book of hers that I’ve read was The Commander and I don’t think that was it, so I’m stumped.
IT IS THE ‘SEASON OF THE HEART’ BY KATE BRIDGES!!!! THANKS YOU SO MUCH EC SPURLOCK!!!
YAY!! So glad you found it!
Romance novels with Mounties! How did I never think to look for this? Can we have a rec league on this PLEASE?!
