  • First Grave on the Right

First Grave on the Right by Darynda Jones

    UPDATE: Deal no longer valid.

RECOMMENDED: First Grave on the Right is the first book in Darynda Jones’ Charley Davidson series, and it’s $2.99 at Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Here’s what Sarah had to say:

When I’ve been at conferences with Jones, readers and authors come up to her and tell her how much they love this series. This book won the Golden Heart in 2009, and the RITA for Best First Book in 2012. The heroine, Charley, is terrific. I listened to the audiobook performance by Lorelei King (after buying the Kindle copy on sale I was offered a discounted audio copy) and it was really good. I didn’t want to stop walking the dogs, that’s for sure.

Private investigator Charlotte Davidson was born with three things: looks; a healthy respect for the male anatomy; and the rather odd job title of grim reaper. Since the age of five, she has been helping the departed solve the mysteries of their deaths so they can cross over. Thus, when three lawyers from the same law firm are murdered, they come to her to find their killer.

In the meantime, Charley’s dealing with a being more powerful – and definitely sexier – than any spectre she’s ever come across before. With the help of a pain-in-the-ass skip tracer, a dead pubescent gangbanger named Angel, and a lifetime supply of sarcasm, Charley sets out to solve the highest profile case of the year and discovers that dodging bullets isn’t nearly as dangerous as falling in love.

  • A Queen from the North

A Queen from the North by Erin McRae

RECOMMENDEDA Queen From the North by Erin McRae and Racheline Maltese is $2.99 in honor of Harry & Meghan’s royal engagement! The Bitchery recommended this one to Redheadedgirl and she gave it B+. She also notes that she’s eagerly awaiting the next book in the series and really appreciated the recommendation.

It may be the 21st century, but in a not-so-united kingdom the wounds of the the Wars of the Roses have never healed. The rivalry between the Yorkish north and Lancastrian south has threatened to pull the nation apart for over 500 years.

While the modern world struggles with fractures born of ancient conflict, Lady Amelia Brockett faces far more mundane problems. Known to her family as Meels, this youngest daughter of a Northern earl is having the Worst. Christmas. Ever. Dumped by her boyfriend and rejected from graduate school, her parents deem her the failure of the family.

But when her older brother tries to cheer her with a trip to the races, a chance meeting with Arthur, the widowed, playboy Prince of Wales, offers Amelia the chance to change her life — and Britain’s fortunes — forever. Hunted by the press — and haunted by Arthur’s niece who fancies herself the kingdom’s court witch — Amelia finds herself adrift in a sea of paparazzi, politics, and prophecy.

With few allies beyond her allergic-to-horses sister-in-law, her best friend who has a giant crush on the prince, and the cute young receptionist at Buckingham Palace that calls himself her Royalty Customer Service Representative, Amelia must navigate a perilous and peculiar course to secure Arthur’s love and become A Queen from the North.

  • Chasing Christmas Eve

Chasing Christmas Eve by Jill Shalvis

Chasing Christmas Eve by Jill Shalvis is $1.99! This is a contemporary romance and the fourth book in the Heartbreaker Bay series. This has a no-strings attached fling element and many loved the hero (he wears glasses!). However, others say this is a rather “safe” read in that it’s not particularly memorable.

    Meet cute…

Run for the hills—temporarily. That’s Colbie Albright’s plan when she flees New York for San Francisco. Wrangling her crazy family by day and writing a bestselling YA fantasy series by night has taken its toll. In short, Colbie’s so over it that she’s under it. She’s also under the waters of a historic San Francisco fountain within an hour of arrival. Fortunately, the guy who fishes Colbie out has her looking forward to Christmas among strangers. But she’s pretty sure Spencer Baldwin won’t be a stranger for long.

    Make merry…

Spence’s commitment to hiding from the Ghosts of Relationships Past means he doesn’t have to worry about the powerful—okay, crazy hot chemistry—he’s got with Colbie. Just because she can laugh at anything, especially herself… just because she’s gorgeous and a great listener just because she gets Spence immediately doesn’t mean he won’t be able to let Colbie go. Does it?

    and hope for a miracle.

Now the clock’s ticking for Colbie and Spence: Two weeks to cut loose. Two weeks to fall hard. Two weeks to figure out how to make this Christmas last a lifetime.

  • Disorderly Conduct

    Disorderly Conduct by Tessa Bailey

Disorderly Conduct by Tessa Bailey is $1.99! This is the first book in The Academy series. Bailey is an auto-buy author for me. I also made a yummy cocktail for its release. However, some readers found the hero to be too pushy or thought the book had too much sex. Have you read this one?

    You don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone…

Police academy cadet Charlie Burns can’t believe his luck when the gorgeous blonde he meets in a bar murmurs those magic words: “Nothing serious, ’kay?” Mind-blowing, no-strings sex with Ever Carmichael—it’s the holy grail of hookups for a guy who’s too busy following in his law enforcement family’s footsteps to think about getting serious. Charlie’s all about casual…that is, until Ever calls it quits and his world tilts on its axis.

Ever knows that when you control the relationship game, you can’t get played. But for the first time, she wants more than short-term satisfaction. Step one: end her fling with commitment-phobic Charlie. Step two: sacrifice herself to the ruthless NYC dating scene. Yet everywhere she turns, there’s Charlie, being his ridiculously charming self. No online match or blind date compares to the criminally hot cop-in-training, but they’re over. Aren’t they?

If love is a four-letter-word, why does the idea of Ever seeing someone else tie Charlie up in knots?  Now he’s desperate to win her back…and a little date sabotage never hurt anyone, right?

Loved the Jill Shalvis Chasing Christmas Eve – it was light, funny and sexy and I just needed something sigh-worthy and charming after a rough week.

  5. Janine says:

I REALLY liked A Queen from the North. It had its flaws–I would have liked a little more time spent in the North to help the reader understand what it was the heroine was trying to accomplish–but overall I thoroughly enjoyed Amelia and Arthur’s story.

  6. Paige says:

Irresistible You by Kate Meader is on sale $.99 first in new sports series.

@DeanaCal: They’re Alexander McQueens and can still be found online (along with other skull accessories). They’re expensive, but not mortgage your house expensive. Treat yo self. 🙂

  11. Yota says:

Silly question, do all the heartbreaker bay series start with someone falling in the fountain?

I’m imagining word getting around and all the commitedly singles avoiding the fountain like the plague

  12. Cat C says:

    Ooh, “too much sex” *click*

But, really, I love Tessa Bailey. Read the sample and I wasn’t crazy about the first chapter (hero POV) but loved the heroine’s POV in the following one so yes I bought it.

(Also, it’s not “too much sec,” haha, unless there were some really opinionated wine drinkers writing the reviews 😉 )

  13. CelineB says:
