  • The Unyielding

    The Unyielding by Shelly Laurenston

RECOMMENDEDThe Unyielding by Shelly Laurenston is 99c! This is the third book in the Call of Crows series, which Sarah absolutely loves. The first book is on sale as well for $1.99!

Sarah gave this book a B:

This series, and each book within it, makes me feel better whenever I’m stressed or feeling powerless and overwhelmed. It acknowledges the rage inherent in feeling powerless, and transforms that rage into useful, powerful action. It’s the best kind of catharsis. The Unyielding may not be my favorite of the series, but I still recommend the Crows books loudly to everyone who will listen to me.

Stieg Engstrom, Angriest Viking Ever, has got big problems. The human Viking Clans of earth are in danger of being obliterated—along with the rest of the world—and the only one who may be able to save them is a super pain-in-the-ass Crow. Most people annoy Stieg, but this is the one woman he really can’t stand…

Erin Amsel loves being a Crow! Why wouldn’t she when the other Viking Clans are so hilariously arrogant and humorless? She’s not about to let all that come to an end! She just didn’t expect to be shoulder to shoulder in battle with Stieg. Then again, he’s so easy to torment—and also kind of cute.

With the future of the world riding on them, Stieg knows he’ll have to put aside his desperate need to kiss the smirk right off Erin’s face. Wait. What? He didn’t mean that—did he? No! They have one goal: To conquer the idiots. Because nothing bugs Stieg more than when idiots win. If only he can keep himself from suddenly acting like one….

  • Duke of Thorns

Duke of Thorns by Sara Ramsey

Duke of Thorns by Sara Ramsey is 99c at Amazon and iBooks! This historical romance is the first book in the Heiress Games series. Readers say the book is hilarious and the banter is great, but if you prefer your historical romances more on the serious side, this  may not be for you. I also recommend checking out Sara Ramsey’s SBTB podcast episode!

    A devil who won’t be denied…

Too powerful to care for such petty things as morals, the Duke of Thorington lives as he pleases. And it pleases him to be known as a cruel, heartless blackguard—one no sane woman would dare to marry. But when his fortunes unexpectedly crumble, he must find a way to save his family from ruin. To succeed, Thorington needs an heiress. There’s only one problem…

    A lady who can’t be contained…

Bold, daring Callista Briarley has survived riots, plagues, and revolutions while building her own privateering enterprise, but the sharks of English society are an entirely new challenge. It will all be worth it if she wins Maidenstone Abbey—a house her ancestors spent centuries killing each other for. To succeed, Callie needs a powerful ally. There’s only one problem…

    Two hearts destined to ignite…

During the most infamous house party of the summer, Callie and Thorington have one chance to secure both their futures. But Callie’s need for freedom is directly at odds with Thorington’s brand of control. When her past puts them both in danger, will their unexpected love be enough to conquer all?

  • To Love a Highland Dragon

To Love a Highland Dragon by Ann Gimpel

To Love a Highland Dragon by Ann Gimpel is 99c at select vendors! It’s also the second book in the Dragon Lore series, the rest of which are available for $2.99 each. This romance features a dragon shifter waking in present day Scotland and a doctor heroine who descended from witches. Some readers wanted more romantic tension between the lead characters, while others said it had a great blend of magic and romance.

A dragon shifter stirs and wakens in a cave beneath Inverness, deep in the Scottish Highlands. The cave’s the same and his hoard intact, yet something’s badly amiss. Determined to set whatever’s gone wrong to rights, Lachlan Moncrieffe ventures above ground—and wishes he hadn’t. His castle’s gone, replaced by ungainly row houses. Men aren’t wearing plaids, and women scarcely wear anything at all, particularly the woman who accosts him with unseemly banter. What manner of wench is she to dress so provocatively?

In Inverness for a year on a psychiatry fellowship, Dr. Maggie Hibbins watches an oddly dressed man pick his way out of a heather and gorse thicket. Even though it runs counter to her better judgment, she teases him about his strange attire. He looks so lost—and so unbelievably, knock-out gorgeous —she takes a chance and stands him a meal. Lachlan’s shock when he picks up a local newspaper at a pub is so palpable, Maggie jumps in with both feet.

She knew something was off, but the hard-to-accept truth bashes gaping holes in her equilibrium. He looks odd, sounds odd, acts odd because he’s a refugee from another era. Her half-baked seduction scheme takes a hike, but her carefully constructed life is still about to change forever. Born of powerful witches, Maggie runs headlong into the myth and magic that are her birthright.

  • A Rogue to Avoid

A Rogue to Avoid by Bianca Blythe

A Rogue to Avoid by Bianca Blythe is 99c at Amazon! This is a historical romance where a misunderstanding leads to marriage. Talk about awkward. Readers really seemed to enjoy the interaction between the hero and heroine. However, others found some things to be a bit unbelievable or inconsistent. It has a 3.8-star rating on Goodreads.

    A Scottish scoundrel…
Gerard Highgate, Marquess of Rockport and the ton’s most aloof rake, knows better than to wed an Englishwoman, especially one as prickly as Lady Cordelia. But when his mother dies and he finds himself saddled with her debts, he needs a wife and he needs one fast.

    An exacting Englishwoman…
Lady Cordelia knows that hastiness in husband hunting leads to mistakes. But when she visits an aristocrat to warn that his life might be in danger, he misinterprets her suggestion to flee to Scotland.

    An unexpected elopement…
Most elopements are born of love, not misunderstanding. Cordelia and Gerard have already broken that rule, but perhaps they can still make their marriage one of love.

Trigger Warning for The Unyielding: Dubious Consent in one scene
I love the book, love the series, but, well, read the comments on the review for a more detailed discussion as to whether Erin rapes Stieg. At the very least, it’s murky.

  2. Lara says:

I bought the first book, “The Unleashing” and it is EVERYTHING I needed at the moment. Deeply cathartic.

  3. cleo says:

@Maite – thanks for the warning!

I just bought The Unyielding always – for book bingo – the hero has a pet goat!
