Afterburn & Aftershock

Afterburn & Aftershock by Sylvia Day is on sale with a couple different prices at a couple different places. At Amazon and Barnes & Noble, it’s $3.68 (odd, I know) and at Google:Play, it’s $1.99. I’m sure we all know which number we’d prefer! Scribd is also scheduled to start carrying this title in August, so mark your calendars! This is a two-story set that’s been compiled after each novella was released separately. Fans of Day seem to be split on Afterburn & Aftershock, though it does have a 3.9-star rating on GoodReads. Any Day readers care to compare this set with her other books?
Available as a digital anthology for the first time from Cosmo Red-Hot Reads from Harlequin, enjoy Afterburn and Aftershock from America’s premier author of provocative fiction, #1 New York Times Bestselling author Sylvia Day. A sizzling miniseries about unexpected reunions, bittersweet revenge, and the fight for redemption.
Afterburn
The realization that Jax still affected me so strongly was a jagged pill to swallow. He’d only been part of my life for five short weeks two years ago. But now he was back. Walking into a deal I’d worked hard to close. And God, he was magnificent. His eyes were a brown so dark they were nearly black. Thickly lashed, they were relentless in their intensity. Had I really thought they were soft and warm? There was nothing soft about Jackson Rutledge. He was a hard and jaded man, cut from a ruthless cloth.
In that moment I understood how badly I wanted to unravel the mystery of Jax. Bad enough that I didn’t mind how much it was going to cost me…
Aftershock
When it came to playing games, my lover Jax was a master strategist. He pulled strings behind the closed doors of D.C.’s most powerful political players, and somehow still found time to nearly sideline my career. What he didn’t know was that when I didn’t like the rules, I threw them out and made my own. I wasn’t going to let Jax get away with it. I wasn’t going to let him get away at all.
I loved Jax enough that it was impossible to give up. Jax loved me enough that giving up was the only end he’d consider. He didn’t think I could swim with the sharks. It was entirely my pleasure to show him that I’d already dived in…

A Little Too Far by Lisa Desrochers is $2.99 at most vendors! This is the first book in her New Adult series of the same name. Some things to point out that may set off some catnip alarms. Or they may have the opposite effect. There is a love triangle and the heroine has a fling her her best-friend-now-step-brother. Sidenote: I’ve noticed stepbrothers are becoming a “thing” in romance. Some people seemed to like the “taboo” relationship in the book, while others (in internet speak) did not want. Have you read this one?
Have you ever gone just a little too far?
Lexie Banks has.
Yep. She just had mind-blowing sex with her stepbrother. In her defense, she was on the rebound, and it’s more of a my-dad-happened-to-marry-a-woman-with-a-super-hot-son situation. But still, he’s been her best friend and confidant for the better part of the last few years … and is so off limits. It’s a good thing she’s leaving in two days for a year abroad in Rome.
But even thousands of miles away, Lexie can’t seem to escape trouble. Raised Catholic, she goes to confession in hopes of alleviating some of her guilt … and maybe not burning in hell. Instead, she stumbles out of the confessional and right into Alessandro Moretti, a young and very easy-on-the-eyes deacon … only eight months away from becoming a priest. Lexie and Alessandro grow closer, and when Alessandro’s signals start changing despite his vow of celibacy, she doesn’t know what to think. She’s torn between falling in love with the man she shouldn’t want and the man she can’t have. And she isn’t sure how she can live with herself either way.

Unbroken by Maya Banks is $3.99! And you know that if it’s Maya Banks, it’s going to be erotica. Unbroken brings together three short erotica romances, in case you like a little variety when it comes to your literary sexytimes. Many readers have commented that, though the book is technically an anthology, it reads as though all the stories belong together. But, with any anthology, everyone has their favorites. It has a 4.0-star rating on GR.

Trust in Me by J. Lynn (otherwise known as Jennifer L. Armentrout) is $1.99! This new adult book is slightly different than most as it’s book 1.5 in her Wait for You series. The first book is Wait for You and is told through the heroine’s perspective, while this second book is told from the hero’s perspective. This version also barely edges out the first book in terms of GR ratings, holding a 4.29-star rating compared to Wait for You‘s 4.23. Readers who have already dipped into the first book loved the switch in POV, while those new to the series said they didn’t mind starting with this one. Any readers out there who have read both and care to comment?
From the NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author of WAIT FOR YOU, this is the story of Cam and Avery’s sizzling romance as you’ve never seen it before, told exclusively from Cam’s perspective…

It’s not a perfect fit for the heading, but the first book of Shelly Laurenston’s Pride series “The Mane Event” is a Kindle Monthly Deal at $0.99. –Definitely not new adult, but fairly erotic. (http://smile.amazon.com/Mane-Event-Pride-Book-ebook/dp/B002QHATZ6/ref=sr_1_15?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1425349714&sr=1-15)
I am often (appropriately) amused when reading, but I rarely encounter laugh out loud (for real LOL) material. The Pride series is magically humorous. On occasion I have felt like I might die laughing while reading it. It’s shifters with deep cultures and remarkable sociologies; it’s violent and terrifically smart; and the characters are people you will be pleased to know for the rest of your life. (Violence, I should mention, generally doesn’t do it for me. The violence here is real in the context of the story, but distanced from the reader, I think, in the way it can be in superhero movies.) Don’t bother with the “jacket” copy, just start reading and find out how it strikes you. This, the first book, is as good a place to start as any (and it’s 99 cents). (The books can be read out of order — I started that way –, but there is a large ensemble cast, so they’re probably less work in order.)
As a side note the Maya Banks anthology is a re-issue of previously released material.
