I picked up The No-Show because based on the blurb, I thought this would be some sort of feminist revenge fantasy. Said blurb: Three women who seemingly have nothing in common find that they’re involved with the same man in this smart new rom-com by Beth O’Leary, bestselling author of The Flatshare. Sadly this does not end in a sisterhood pact over this man’s grave. Despite my wrong assumptions, I hoovered up this book in … Continue reading The No-Show by Beth O’Leary →
Beth and Amy is a pitch-perfect retelling of Little Women / Good Wives from the point of view of Beth, Amy, and occasionally Abigail March. It completely captures the personalities of the March girls and their friends and family, while bringing them convincingly into the modern era. I loved it. Amy is returning to Bunyan for her sister Jo’s wedding to Eric Bhaer, and is apprehensive about seeing Trey Lawrence again. She has had a … Continue reading Beth and Amy by Virginia Kantra →
I realized that I’ve spent the past few weeks just letting the universe decide what I should read. Either it’s something somebody mentioned that sounded interesting, or an author went on The Daily Show and pimped her book, or a book that publisher sent me. I haven’t gone actively looking for a book in a while, and since the variety that the universe has sent my way has been REALLY interesting, I’m just going to keep … Continue reading Erotic Stories For Punjabi Widows by Balli Kaur Jaswal →
The first third of this novel is very slow, almost glacial, and the remainder flies with nonstop, eye-widening, what the hell did I just read seriously what. I think that change of pace is deliberate given what happens in the story, but I’m still debating whether the pace and the plot worked for me. The book opens with Sally and Peter’s wedding. Sally is happy but calculating, and sneaks away to deal with her mother, who … Continue reading Please Release Me by Rhoda Baxter →
Only in My Dreams by Darcy Burke is 99c! This is a contemporary romance with a friends with benefits plot between a woman and her high school crush. It’s also a small town romance, so clearly there’s some catnip for everyone. Many readers noted that Burke was a new author for them and wound up really enjoying this first book in the series. It has a 4.2-star rating on GoodReads.

No Limits by Lori Foster is $1.99! This is a sports contemporary romance and the first book in the Ultimate series. And whew…look at that cover! The hero is an MMA fighter who rescued the heroine a few years back, so there definitely seems to be a suspense element to the book too. Many readers found the book to have a good blend of romance and action, though a few found the book’s resolutions to be wrapped up a little too quickly. It has a 3.9-star rating on GR.

RECOMMENDED: Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen is $1.99! This author became an auto-buy for me after I read this book as a part of a GoodReads reading challenge. I would liken this book to women’s fiction with a magical realism slant. It’s heartwarming and beautiful and has a 4-star rating on GR. The biggest complaint seems to be the book is a little predictable, but we all need an easy read now and again. It’s the first book in the Waverley Family series.
