The Gentle Art of Fortune Hunting by KJ Charles is 99c! Thanks to everyone who let us know about this sale. Take note that it has a new cover and a new ISBN, so double check if you have this already. This book was almost recommend in two Rec Leagues: Papa Bears and No Bleak Moment.
For You & No One Else by Roni Loren is $1.99! So far, I only see this deal reflected at Amazon and Barnes & Noble. This is the third book in the Say Everything series, which deals a lot with mental health. It can also be read as a standalone. I love Roni’s books and am awaiting news of what she’s up to for 2024. I know her Ones Who Got Away series is getting a re-release.
If you’re new to Hide Your Wallet, this is where we list new releases we’re pretty excited for in the coming month. Each reviewer has a book maximum (five per person), and we’ve separated HYW into two parts. The first HYW of the month will cover books that release from the 1st to the 14th. The second HYW will cover books released from the 15th to the end of the month. We also think this … Continue reading January 2023 New Releases, Part Two→
Welcome back to another exciting edition of Get Rec’d! I do a lot of recommending and not all of it is romance. Here is a selection of things I’ve recommended in the last couple weeks. There are two romances, but some interesting literary fiction with surrealism and Gothic elements. Get any good recommendations lately? Any books you’d love to share?
I thought this book was amazing. I loved the prose, the characters, the mystery, and the setting. From a craft perspective I found this book masterful, and it took me on an intense emotional journey. I think this is a literal must-read for historical mystery fans provided they do not mind some violence.
Marry in Secret by Anne Gracie is $1.99! This is the third book in the Marriage of Convenience series. Catherine gave this one a B:
On balance, then, I think this book ends up as a B. It’s not the festival of squee that denotes an A, or the ‘perfectly good but a bit meh’ that denotes a C.
RECOMMENDED: The Hollow of Fear by Sherry Thomas is $1.99 and a Kindle Daily Deal! This is the third book the Lady Sherlock series, which probably needs to be read in order. Sarah gave it a B+:
I will keep recommending this series, as it is so layered with opportunities to examine it. It can be read as a mystery, as a historical novel with found family, as an examination of sexism and societal limitations on women, and how those limitations are subverted in acceptable and unacceptable ways, or as a study of those outside the boundaries of high society and how they survive with disguises built of behavior.
Ties That Tether by Jane Igharo is $1.99! Igharo’s covers have been featured in Cover Awe, though I don’t think we’ve had them on sale. I haven’t read this one, but based on the description it seems slightly more like women’s fiction where there are strong romantic elements but not necessarily the focus. Thoughts?
RECOMMENDED: Off the Clock by Roni Loren is $1.99! I read this one and gave it a B+. Content warnings here for childhood trauma and suicide, which are the major ones I remember. Here’s what I thought:
When I first heard about Off the Clock, I was pretty excited. I’m all for erotic romances with smart people and it’s nice to see non-billionaires. So I went into the book amped for some nerdy people getting down and dirty, but was pleasantly surprised that it was so much more than that – it was emotional and showed an interesting portrayal of individuals dealing with all manner of trauma and mental illness.
Big Bad Wolf by Suleikha Snyder is $1.99! This is book one in Third Shift series, which is a paranormal romance. Super curious about this one. I thought we had featured this previously on sale, but maybe it was all a fever dream.
Bridgerton Collection: Volume 1 by Julia Quinn is $6.99! It’s a little pricier than what we’d normally feature but you get three full-length historical romances and these collections, when not on sale, are priced at $19.99. Not a bad deal!
