The Glass Hotel by Emily St. John Mandel is $2.99! Because this book was such a bestseller, I’m worried this could expire at any moment. I personally haven’t read it, but a fellow bookseller colleague listed this as their best book of 2020. Have you read it?

RECOMMENDED: The Mask of Mirrors by M.A. Carrick is $2.99 and a KDD! M.A. Carrick is the name for the writing duo of Marie Brennan and Alyc Helms. Carrie wrote a Lightning Review of this one and gave it a B+:
Readers who like political scheming, fashion as a weapon and a tool, secrets, and swashbuckling will enjoy this, and as a special treat for Tarot fans the characters have their own form of cartomancy which is described in detail in the book.

Each reviewer has a book maximum (five per person), and we’ve separated HYW into two parts. The first HYW of the month will cover books that release from the 1st to the 14th. The second HYW will cover books released from the 15th to the end of the month. We also think this … Continue reading April 2023 New Releases, Part One →
The Orphan of Cemetery Hill by Hester Fox is $1.99! Elyse has been a huge fan of Fox’s Gothic fiction and this one was mentioned on a previous Hide Your Wallet. Be warned, though, as Fox’s books can get rather dark. I know the first one had some triggers, so be sure to use the search function for Goodreads reviews to find a list.

Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia is $2.99! It’s part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals, so grab this one if you can. I thought we ran a review, but I’m probably conflating it with all the great comments we had about it on Slack. We also recommended it in our Horror Romance Rec League.

I love creepy romance; before I started reading romance novels I read Old Skool Gothics by Victoria Holt and Phyllis Whitney. The Widow of Pale Harbor by Hester Fox contained some Gothic elements, but it’s really a historical romance with suspense elements. I enjoyed the spooky atmosphere, but I found the romantic development to be a little weak and I wasn’t happy with how the mystery was laid out. The novel is set in Pale … Continue reading The Widow of Pale Harbor by Hester Fox →
Everyone, there are so many good books coming out this month that it’s really quite unfair. We have over forty titles we’re excited for below, but here are a few others we know you’re all anxious to read: Wayward Son by Rainbow Rowell is releasing! (My roommate splurged on a life-sized cardboard cutout of Baz, btw.) Margaret Atwood as written a sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale called The Testaments. Rachel Caine continues her Great Library series with Sword and Pen . No … Continue reading September’s New Releases →
Marriage of Unconvenience by Chelsea M. Cameron is $2.99! Everything about this cover is working for me. If you’re looking for more F/F romances, a few of Cameron’s books are on sale. Tara let me know about this one and gave me these glowing words to include:
The absolute perfect fluffy romance for hiding away from all the bad things in the world. Two best friends in a fake relationship that becomes all too real with cuteness and kissing. I can’t even with this book.

RECOMMENDED: The Witch of Willow Hall by Hester Fox is $1.99! Thank you to all the readers who let us know about this sale! Elyse read this one and gave it B+, but issued some content warnings:
I really enjoyed this book. I wish I could delve more deeply in the incredibly spooky, ghostly shenanigans that go down, but it’s really best experienced in the moment. The author does a fantastic job balancing a Gothic sense of dread with a burgeoning romance, weaving in awfulness with hope.

Halloween is just around the corner and it’s my favorite time of year. I love kids getting to dress up as adorable pumpkins or superheroes, my getting to buy bulk Reese Peanut Butter Cups and pretend like they’re for trick or treaters when the bag is totally going in my freezer, and my reading all of the spooky books and movies that get released. The Witch of Willow Hall immediately caught my eye with its … Continue reading The Witch of Willow Hall by Hester Fox →
