RECOMMENDED: Tiffany Girl by Deeanne Gist is $1.99! This is an American historical romance. Redheadedgirl read the book after hearing about it on a panel at a previous RT conference, and she gave it a B+:
I loved this and chewed through it like someone was going to take it away from me, and I’m totally going to check out more of Gist’s work. She writes specifically American historicals, which are kind of sparse on the ground lately, and are a refreshing change of pace from the English historicals.

Sweet Magnolias Collection: Volume 1 by Sherryl Woods is $2.99! This is the first two books in the small town romance series. It was also made into a Netflix series, which I haven’t watched yet. My brain keeps mixing it up with Steel Magnolias, and I had such a visceral, emotional reaction to that movie that it bleeds over to my impression of Sweet Magnolias.

RECOMMENDED: Wicked Intentions by Elizabeth Hoyt is $1.99! I listened to this on audio after Elyse’s great review and loved it. I’ve since listened to the next two Maiden Lane books on audio as well. Elyse really enjoyed this book and gave it an A-:
Serial killer. And Ghost of St. Giles vigilante. And river pirate. And bondage.
If any or all of those things appeal to you, I’d really recommend this book. If you’re looking for a spicy historical, or one not focused around the glittering aristocracy, Wicked Intentions fits the bill. Aside from a few ball scenes, this book takes place among the working class of London.

The Soldier’s Scoundrel by Cat Sebastian is $1.99! This is a gay historical romance with class differences, which readers seemed to really love in terms of the pairing. However, other reader mention having some problems with the book’s pacing. It has a 4-star rating on Goodreads. You can also grab The Lawrence Browne Affair for $1.99!

A Bride in the Bargain by Deeanne Gist is 99c! Gist is a bit of an auto-buy author for some. This is an American historical and Inspirational romance, though there does seem to be some debate on shelving it as “Inspirational” on Goodreads. Readers say that though what little and tame sexual content is in the book, there is plenty of sexual tension. It has a 4.1-star rating on Goodreads.

RECOMMENDED: Pretty Baby by Mary Kubica is $1.99 at Amazon and $2.99 elsewhere! This is a mystery/thriller that Elyse really enjoyed, giving it an A grade, though she does give a trigger warning for child abuse in the book:
I love a thriller that makes me think, makes me question the narrator and isn’t just about who buried the body in the woods. Pretty Baby is all those things, and combined with exquisite writing and an ending that comes together beautifully it was an A read for me.

I had never heard of Deeanne Gist before the “Everything Old Is New Again” panel at RT, where she talked about how she had three books set at the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair and how Tiffany the Stained Glass Guy (son of TIffany the Fancy-pants Jewelry Guy) was making a mosaic chapel for display, and then his glassworkers went on strike and he hired women from art schools to do the glass selection and cutting … Continue reading Tiffany Girl by Deeanne Gist →
