Hide Your Wallet: March 25th Release Week!

Happy Tuesday!

It’s the last Tuesday in March and we’re closing off the month with a handful of new releases. Three-quarters of them are historicals—can you believe it?!

Which books are you excited for this week? Let us know in the comments!

  • A Wager at Midnight

A Wager at Midnight by Vanessa Riley

    Author: Vanessa Riley
Released: March 25, 2025 by Zebra Books
    Genre: ,
Series: Betting Against the Duke #2

The stakes are high in this dazzling and diverse Regency romance, in which a clever duke has made a wager with the now-widowed Viscountess who is the love of his life: To win a second chance with her, he will find husbands for her two sisters—or resign himself to a life of longing in this enchanting tale from award-winning author Vanessa Riley.

Scarlett Wilcox is willing to live out her life as a spinster if it means being able to continue her medical research to help a friend in need. After all, few husbands would tolerate her dressing as a man to attend lectures at the Royal Academy of Science. If the Duke of Torrance finds her such a specimen, she’ll agree to a marriage in name only, much to the dismay of her elder sister, the Viscountess.

When she’s unmasked at a lecture on ophthalmology, Scarlett prepares to be disgraced, but she’s saved by Trinidadian-born physician Stephen Carew who claims her as a cousin. Dedicated to caring for his community, Stephen has no wish to marry a frivolous and privileged lady, no matter how many fall for his disarming accent and seductive charm. But Scarlett proves the opposite of any he’s ever met before. Yet the pressure to marry blinds them both to the chemistry growing between them, pitting their brilliant minds against their reluctant hearts—as the Duke and Viscountess await with bated breath to see who will win . . . A WAGER AT MIDNIGHT.

Book two in Vanessa Riley’s Betting Against a Duke series with a heroine who conducts medical research.

  • The Lady Sparks a Flame

The Lady Sparks a Flame by Elizabeth Everett

    Author: Elizabeth Everett
Released: March 25, 2025 by Berkley
    Genre: ,
Series: The Damsels of Discovery #2

A Lady with a past. A man with ambition. A romance far from London society that might bridge their divides.

Lady Phoebe Hunt never anticipated returning from exile. A fatal choice drove her from England, but the death of her father—and the revelation of his debts—has brought her home. Once she settles her father’s estate, she will return to America, where she has reinvented herself. There’s no reason to remain, not even for one gravitationally challenged but deliciously tempting Sam Fenley.

Samuel Fenley is all ambition. Rising from shop boy to wealthy investor, he’s left knocking on doors that open only for those with a title. Unless he buys the damned door itself—and the estate that goes with it. Sam offers to relieve Phoebe of her burdens, but is her crumbling mansion all Sam wants? Or is it the Lady herself?

When threats from Phoebe’s past spark new dangers, Sam and Phoebe discover that neither is what the other expected. Standing on the edge of disaster, the disgraced Ice Queen will have to decide if she wants to forge through life alone, or let an unlikely hero melt her heart.

Amanda: The descriptions for this series always have me curious, especially when it comes to the heroines.

Lara: This book is electric (once you’ve read it, you’ll get the reference).

  • Our Dear Miss H. Is on the Case

Our Dear Miss H. Is on the Case by Violet Marsh

    Author: Violet Marsh
Released: March 25, 2025 by Forever
    Genre: , ,

Iin this delightfully witty historical rom-com series combines scandalous mystery with swoony opposites-attract romance—perfect for fans Enola Holmes and Bridgerton!

Georgina Harrington should never have trusted her feckless cousin Percy with her most precious archaeological discovery. But no one would take her academic work seriously if they knew it was hers and not her male cousin’s. When Percy goes missing, only Georgina realizes that he is truly in danger.  And to find him, she must rely on the help of his infuriating but incredibly attractive best friend.

Although Alexander Lovett is always up for an adventure, he vows to keep his distance from Georgina, who is on his insufferable parents’ list of suitable brides for a future duke. He’s a grown man who can pick his own wife, thank you very much. But he’s surprised to find himself falling for Georgina’s surprisingly bold initiative and independent thinking that save them from more than one deadly scrape. Yet as a simple kidnapping grows into a threat to the monarchy, their smoldering attraction might be snuffed out before it ever has a chance to ignite.

A historical romance mixed with a mystery!

  • When the Moon Hits Your Eye

When the Moon Hits Your Eye by John Scalzi

    Author: John Scalzi
Released: March 25, 2025 by Tor Books
    Genre:

From the New York Times bestselling author of Starter Villain comes an entirely serious take on a distinctly unserious subject: what would really happen if suddenly the moon were replaced by a giant wheel of cheese.

    It’s a whole new moooooon.

One day soon, suddenly and without explanation, the moon as we know it is replaced with an orb of cheese with the exact same mass. Through the length of an entire lunar cycle, from new moon to a spectacular and possibly final solar eclipse, we follow multiple characters — schoolkids and scientists, billionaires and workers, preachers and politicians — as they confront the strange new world they live in, and the absurd, impossible moon that now hangs above all their lives.

What if the moon were really made of cheese? Certainly a compellingly silly concept from Scalzi!

  1. Lynn says:

Denise Wiliams’ “Just Our Luck” has been released today (March 25th) and I’ve ordered myself a physical copy even though I’m not much of a contemporary romance girlie and I’ve heard mixed things about it (specifically the 3rd act break-up). I just love the cover of the book so much and want to display it on my shelves /)_(\ This is why people say book buying and book reading are two different hobbies…

  2. DiscoDollyDeb says:

I only have one book on my tbr for this week—and I’m not even sure it will make its release date (Amazon hasn’t been showing it for pre-order): Alessandra Hazard’s JUST A BIT GUARDED (March 28) is the 15th—yes, 15th!—book in her Straight Guys series of m/m romances where, in most cases, at least one MC experiences a bi-awakening. Objectively, these books are not that great, but they’re compulsively readable, and I’m sure I’ll tear through JUST A BIT GUARDED if and when it is released.

  3. LittyN says:

Looking forward to the latest silly sci-fi from John Scalzi, which you listed, and The Big Fix by Holly James, a rom-com with mystery and action. Blurb: Penny’s plan for the summer involved finalizing tenure at the university where she’s a computer sciences professor. Now she’s suddenly on the run with a man she barely knows, scaling walls, evading bullets, and accidentally stabbing henchmen.

  4. Lisa F says:

So excited about the Everett; read the Riley, it’s good but not my fave from her.

  5. cleo says:

Sky Kilaen’s March edition of new and recent queer romance releases is out. She highlights under the radar queer romances and I’ve discovered some real gems from her newsletter.

  6. DiscoDollyDeb says:

I just saw that Genevieve Turner’s long-awaited NO PLACE FOR SINGLE COWBOYS, the first in a new series called Star-Crossed Springs, is scheduled for release on March 27. I’ve been waiting so long for this one, I thought Turner had just decided not to publish it. I’m glad it’s finally here (almost).
