The Devil and the Heiress
RECOMMENDED: The Devil and the Heiress by Harper St. George is $1.99! Thank you to everyone who let us know about this one! This is book two in The Gilded Heiresses series and Elyse gave it an A-:
The Devil and the Heiress by Harper St. George is a tropey historical romance with light conflict. It worked totally for me, but lately I’ve needed less darkness and fewer obstacles for the main characters to overcome in my reading.
Sparks fly when a runaway heiress bargains with a devilish rogue to escape a marriage of convenience.
No one would guess that beneath Violet Crenshaw’s ladylike demeanor lies the heart of a rebel. American heiresses looking to secure English lords must be on their best behavior, but Violet has other plans. She intends to flee London and the marriage her parents have arranged to become a published author–if only the wickedly handsome earl who inspired her most outrageously sinful character didn’t insist on coming with her.
Christian Halston, Earl of Leigh, has a scheme of his own: escort the surprisingly spirited dollar princess north and use every delicious moment in close quarters to convince Violet to marry him. Christian needs an heiress to rebuild his Scottish estate but the more time he spends with Violet, the more he realizes what he really needs is her–by his side, near his heart, in his bed.
Though Christian’s burning glances offer unholy temptation, Violet has no intention of surrendering herself or her newfound freedom in a permanent deal with the devil. It’s going to take more than pretty words to prove this fortune hunter’s love is true….

Wrong to Need You
RECOMMENDED: Wrong to Need You by Alisha Rai is $1.99! This is the notorious cat pee book. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, read Elyse’s review:
I do not think I can possibly endorse Wrong to Need You more strongly than “it will make you forget you’re sitting in cat pee,” but if I could, I would, because this book is everything wonderful. It’s angsty and cathartic and sexy…Alisha Rai returns with the second novel in her sizzling Forbidden Hearts series!
He wasn’t supposed to fall in love with his brother’s widow…
Accused of a crime he didn’t commit, Jackson Kane fled his home, his name, and his family. Ten years later, he’s come back to town: older, wiser, richer, tougher—and still helpless to turn away the one woman he could never stop loving, even after she married his brother.
Sadia Ahmed can’t deal with the feelings her mysterious former brother-in-law stirs, but she also can’t turn down his offer of help with the cafe she’s inherited. While he heats up her kitchen, she slowly discovers that the boy she adored has grown into a man she’s simply unable to resist.
An affair is unthinkable, but their desire is undeniable. As secrets and lies are stripped away, Sadia and Jackson must decide if they’re strong enough to face the past…and step into a future together.

Sofia Khan is Not Obliged
RECOMMENDED: Sofia Khan is Not Obliged by Ayisha Malik is 99c! It has a new cover and I really like this updated one. Carrie reviewed this on and gave it B+:
This book succeeds because Sofia is so delightful. She’s devout but she sneaks cigarettes sometimes (often, actually). She’s smart and funny, but also young and uncertain. She makes a lot of mistakes but she’s always trying to do the right thing. She loves her family and they love her. Her voice is distinctive and endearing.
‘Brilliant idea! Excellent! Muslim dating? Well, I had no idea you were allowed to date.’ Then he leaned towards me and looked at me sympathetically. ‘Are your parents quite disappointed?’
Unlucky in love once again after her sort-of-boyfriend/possible-marriage-partner-to-be proves a little too close to his parents, Sofia Khan is ready to renounce men for good. Or at least she was, until her boss persuades her to write a tell-all expose about the Muslim dating scene.
As her woes become her work, Sofia must lean on the support of her brilliant friends, baffled colleagues and baffling parents as she seeks stories for her book. But in amongst the marriage-crazy relatives, racist tube passengers and polygamy-inclined friends, could there be a lingering possibility that she might just be falling in love . . . ?

Lush Money
Lush Money by Angelina M. Lopez is $2.99! This one has a new cover than when it was first released. I gave this one a B-:
The angst is high. The sex is hot. It should be high on your TBR pile if you’re in the mood for an emotional rollercoaster with flipped tropes.
A marriage of convenience and three nights a month.
That’s all the sultry, self-made billionaire wants from the impoverished prince.
And at the end of the year, she’ll grant him his divorce…with a settlement large enough to save his beloved kingdom.
As a Latinx woman, Roxanne Medina has conquered small-town bullies, Ivy League snobs and boardrooms full of men. She’s earned the right to mother a princess and feel a little less lonely at the top. The offer she’s made is more than generous, and when the contract’s fulfilled, they’ll both walk away with everything they’ve ever wanted.
Príncipe Mateo Ferdinand Juan Carlos de Esperanza y Santos is one of the top winegrowers in the world, and he’s not marrying and having a baby with a stranger. Even if the millions she’s offering could save his once-legendary wine-producing principality.
But the successful, single-minded beauty uses a weapon prince Mateo hadn’t counted on: his own desire.

I LOVED “Sofia Khan Is Not Obliged” when I read it some years ago. The characters are realistically flawed/human/not perfect. Sofia is British, so it got some “the Muslim Bridget Jones” descriptions (but Sofia isn’t weight-obsessed). However, I would strongly suggest that you avoid the sequel, “The Other Half of Happiness”, if you want to keep the HEA warm fuzzies. My friend and I both loved the first book and we both were like “WHAT THE HECK” with the second.
The giant “queer your bookshelf” sale was yesterday but the couple I just checked are still on sale. https://queeryourbookshelf.com/
