  • Happy Place

    Happy Place by Emily Henry

Happy Place by Emily Henry is $4.99! Henry’s books don’t go on super sale very often so this may be the best price we’re getting in terms of a discount! Do you have a favorite Henry romance?

Named a Most Anticipated Book of 2023 by BuzzFeed ∙ Paste Magazine ∙ Elle ∙ Southern Living ∙ SheReads ∙ Culturess ∙ Medium ∙ Her Campus ∙ Readers Digest ∙ Zibby Mag and more!

A couple who broke up months ago pretend to still be together for their annual weeklong vacation with their best friends in this glittering and wise new novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Emily Henry.

Harriet and Wyn have been the perfect couple since they met in college—they go together like salt and pepper, honey and tea, lobster and rolls. Except, now—for reasons they’re still not discussing—they don’t.

They broke up five months ago. And still haven’t told their best friends.

Which is how they find themselves sharing a bedroom at the Maine cottage that has been their friend group’s yearly getaway for the last decade. Their annual respite from the world, where for one vibrant, blissful week they leave behind their daily lives; have copious amounts of cheese, wine, and seafood; and soak up the salty coastal air with the people who understand them most.

Only this year, Harriet and Wyn are lying through their teeth while trying not to notice how desperately they still want each other. Because the cottage is for sale and this is the last week they’ll all have together in this place. They can’t stand to break their friends’ hearts, and so they’ll play their parts. Harriet will be the driven surgical resident who never starts a fight, and Wyn will be the laid-back charmer who never lets the cracks show. It’s a flawless plan (if you look at it from a great distance and through a pair of sunscreen-smeared sunglasses). After years of being in love, how hard can it be to fake it for one week…in front of those who know you best?

  • Race the Sands

Race the Sands by Sarah Beth Durst

RECOMMENDED: Race the Sands by Sarah Beth Durst is $1.99! Ellen really enjoyed this one and gave it a B+:

I found the premise intriguing and the world-building richly rendered. I loved the characters and relationships. The plot was tight and the emotional beats hit hard. If you love unusual heroines, sports narratives, explorations of morality, monster stories, and/or standalone fantasy novels, this book has something for you.

In this standalone fantasy, a pair of strong and determined women risk their lives battling injustice, corruption, and deadly enemies in their quest to become monster racing champions.

Life, death, and rebirth—in Becar, everyone knows that who you are in this life will determine what you are in your next life. The augurs can read your fate in your aura: hawk, heron, tortoise, jackal, human. Armed with that knowledge, you can change your destiny with the choices you make, both in this life and your next. But for the darkest individuals, there is no redemption: you come back as a kehok, a monster, and you will always be a kehok for the rest of time.

Unless you can win the Races.

As a professional trainer, Tamra was an elite kehok rider. Then a tragic accident on the track shattered her confidence, damaged her career, and left her nearly broke. Now Tamra needs the prize money to prevent the local temple from taking her daughter away from her, and that means she must once again find a winning kehok . . . and a rider willing to trust her.

Raia is desperate to get away from her domineering family and cruel fiancé. As a kehok rider, she could earn enough to buy her freedom. But she can’t become good enough to compete without a first-rate trainer.

Impressed by the inexperienced young woman’s determination, Tamra hires Raia and pairs her with a strange new kehok with the potential to win—if he can be tamed.

But in this sport, if you forget you’re riding on the back of a monster, you die. Tamra and Raia will work harder than they ever thought possible to win the deadly Becaran Races—and in the process, discover what makes this particular kehok so special.

  • Eclipse the Moon

Eclipse the Moon by Jessie Mihalik

Eclipse the Moon by Jessie Mihalik is $1.99! This is book two in the Starlight’s Shadow series. I remember reading this one, though found it heavier on action that romance.

Kee Ildez has been many things: hacker, soldier, bounty hunter. She never expected to be a hero, but when a shadowy group of traitors starts trying to goad the galaxy’s two superpowers into instigating an interstellar war, Kee throws herself into the search to find out who is responsible—and stop them.

Digging up hidden information is her job, so hunting traitors should be a piece of cake, but the primary suspect spent years in the military, and someone powerful is still covering his tracks. Disrupting their plans will require the help of her entire team, including Varro Runkow, a Valovian weapons expert who makes her pulse race.

Quiet, grumpy, and incredibly handsome, Varro watches her with hot eyes but ignores all of her flirting, so Kee silently vows to keep her feelings strictly platonic. But that vow will be put to the test when she and Varro are forced to leave the safety of their ship and venture into enemy territory alone.

Cut off from the rest of their team, they must figure out how to work together—and fast—because a single misstep will cost thousands of lives.

  • The Woman in the Library

The Woman in the Library by Sulari Gentill

The Woman in the Library by Sulari Gentill is $2.24! I mentioned this mystery on a previous Get Rec’d. A murder in a prominent library, especially if you live in the Boston area, ticks a lot of readers’ boxes.

In every person’s story, there is something to hide…

The ornate reading room at the Boston Public Library is quiet, until the tranquility is shattered by a woman’s terrified scream. Security guards take charge immediately, instructing everyone inside to stay put until the threat is identified and contained. While they wait for the all-clear, four strangers, who’d happened to sit at the same table, pass the time in conversation and friendships are struck. Each has his or her own reasons for being in the reading room that morning—it just happens that one is a murderer.

Award-winning author Sulari Gentill delivers a sharply thrilling read with The Woman in the Library, an unexpectedly twisty literary adventure that examines the complicated nature of friendship and shows us that words can be the most treacherous weapons of all.

  1. Evelina says:

The Secret Lives of Country Gentlemen by KJ Charles is only $1.99! It’s heavily discounted everywhere, I don’t know until when.

  2. Darlynne says:

I’m almost fairly possibly kinda certain that I read RACE THE SANDS or at least its twin, very similar plot and characters. Whichever book it was, I appreciated the grit and sacrifice of the women who entered the race.

And I definitely read THE WOMAN IN THE LIBRARY, a twisty unexpected tale about strangers, friends and trust. I was reminded of classic mysteries with their inevitable misdirection and sleight of hand.

  3. taffygrrl says:

There was one plot point towards the end of Race the Sands that disappointed me. However, it was a super-compelling book and I’ve added a number of her other books to my wish list.

A mystery set at the Boston Public Library, you say? *one-clicks*

  4. Snow says:

I’ve found with Jessie Mihalik trilogies that the second book is my favorite, followed by the first. I also think that she writes hacker/tech heroines better than anyone else does. I recommend Eclipse the Moon.
