Marry Me By Midnight
RECOMMENDED: Marry Me By Midnight by Felicia Grossman is $2.99! It’s a KDD and was featured both in our Best Reviews of 2023 and our Bestsellers of 2023. Lara read this and gave it an A:
If you need a truly immersive story that will keep you rapt from the word go, then this is the book for you. I loved this story, and I cannot wait for news of book two.
Author Felicia Grossman—whose “books are powerful and passionate and swoon-inducing!” (Eva Leigh, USA Today bestselling author)—kicks off her new series with an enchanting twist on in which a charming heiress must marry to save her family’s business, but the one man she dreams of is the one man she can’t have.
Every love story begins with once upon a time.
London, 1832: Isabelle Lira may be in distress, but she’s no damsel. Since her father’s death, his former partners have sought to oust her from their joint equity business. Her only choice is to marry—and fast—to a powerful ally outside the respected Berab family’s sphere of influence. Only finding the right spouse will require casting a wide net. So she’ll host a series of festivals, to which every eligible Jewish man is invited.
Once, Aaron Ellenberg longed to have a family of his own. But as the synagogue custodian, he is too poor for wishes and not foolish enough for dreams. Until the bold, beautiful Isabelle Lira presents him with an irresistible offer . . . if he ensures her favored suitors have no hidden loyalties to the Berabs, she will provide him with money for a new life.
Yet the transaction provides surprising temptation, as Aaron and Isabelle find caring and passion in the last person they each expected. Only a future for them is impossible—for heiresses don’t marry orphans, and love only conquers in children’s tales. But if Isabelle can find the courage to trust her heart, she’ll discover anything is possible, if only she says yes.

Texas Destiny
RECOMMENDED: Texas Destiny by Lorraine Heath is $1.99 and another KDD! Jessie, who was a publicist at Avon, is a huge fan of this book, and has been since forever. she wrote A Love Letter to Texas Destiny a few years ago, and said:
There’s so much angst and heartache and tenderness and joy in this book, I’m overwhelmed with emotions every time I read it (which is maybe once or twice a year for the past ten years).
Arriving on the Fort Worth train, Miss Amelia Carson, mail-order bride, had never met Dallas Leigh, the Texan she promised to marry. The tall cowboy at the station wasn’t Dallas. He was Houston, Dallas’s brother, sent to escort her on the rugged three-week trek to the ranch where Dallas waited. Brought up in war-ravaged Georgia, Amelia thought Dallas’s letters made Texas sound like heaven, a place for her dreams to grow with the right man beside her.
And his only love…
By all appearances, Houston Leigh would hardly be considered the “right man.” The war he survived had scarred him inside and out, and he was little competition for his handsome brother. But from the moment Houston met Amelia, he knew she possessed the courage this wild land needed. She had eyes that could see past his wounded face to his soul. And he would fight any man—except his brother—for her heart. Now he and Amelia were riding down dangerous trails, sleeping under the stars, and God help them, they were falling in love.

A Daring Arrangement
A Daring Arrangement by Joanna Shupe is $1.99! This is book one in The Four Hundred series. Elyse reviewed this one and gave it a C-. The book does feature an offensive term, but I believe it has since been edited out on digital versions. I’m also assuming future printings would reflect the change.
Set in New York City’s Gilded Age, Joanna Shupe’s Avon debut introduces an English beauty with a wicked scheme to win the man she loves—and the American scoundrel who ruins her best laid plans…
Lady Honora Parker must get engaged as soon as possible, and only a particular type of man will do. Nora seeks a mate so abhorrent, so completely unacceptable, that her father will reject the match—leaving her free to marry the artist she desires. Who then is the most appalling man in Manhattan? The wealthy, devilishly handsome financier, Julius Hatcher, of course….
Julius is intrigued by Nora’s ruse and decides to play along. But to Nora’s horror, Julius transforms himself into the perfect fiancé, charming the very people she hoped he would offend. It seems Julius has a secret plan all his own—one that will solve a dark mystery from his past, and perhaps turn him into the kind of man Nora could truly love.

For the most part, I enjoyed the Dark Fairy Tales anthology, but I have to stress that, by and large, the stories are super-duper dark, so be forewarned. Also, a number of the stories are codas or spin-offs of authors’ existing series or are set-ups for the interconnected Midnight Dynasty universe—so won’t make a lot of sense if you’re not already familiar with those worlds. On the other hand, if you like lush & darkly erotic, this collection might be for you, but take content & trigger warnings seriously.
Please tell me that Dallas and Houston have a brother named Austin.
@Karin: But let’s hope they don’t have a brother (or, heaven forbid, a sister) named Waco.
I recently read Marry Me at Midnight and wish I liked it better. It was really interesting learning more about the London Jewish community in the nineteenth century, but the book felt like it did more telling than showing. But YMMV!
@karin They do!! (I loved Texas Destiny. All the brothers are named after cities in Texas)
ROFL, @Karin! Your prayers have been answered 😉 But @Susan/DC, their sister’s name appears to be Faith…

So…exactly which side of “the war” did the male lead in Texas Destiny survive fighting on?
I liked everything about Marry Me By Midnight… except the main couple. I liked them individually, but the book never sold me on why they were a good pair aside from the physical attraction. They also had very different relationships with their community, where it seemed pretty clear that the best choice for one of them was to stay in it and the best choice for the other was to leave it, which was all just sort of waved away for the sake of a happy ending.
@Elspeth: On the wrong side, if I’m not much mistaken. I totally understand if that’s a hard no, but what made it acceptable to me was the fact that he had been dragged there by his awful father and was really a child himself. I don’t remember the exact age, but no more than 15, possibly younger. But yeah, I did give that the side-eye, especially in his older brother Dallas’ story.
