A Promise of Fire
RECOMMENDED: A Promise of Fire by Amanda Bouchet is $1.99! There’s a new book in the series out in October, focusing on a different couple. I gave the book an A, though there’s a great discussion in the comments if you’re on the fence:
I can say, without a doubt, that A Promise of Fire is going on my keeper shelf. I want more of these characters and I want more of this world. I cannot remember the last time I wanted to both savor and devour a book, and Bouchet’s writing is so engaging and magical that I wish she had some sort of backlist I could dive into for the next few months.
KINGDOMS WILL RISE AND FALL FOR HER…
“Cat” Catalia Fisa lives disguised as a soothsayer in a traveling circus. She is perfectly content avoiding the danger and destiny the Gods—and her homicidal mother—have saddled her with. That is, until Griffin, an ambitious warlord from the magic-deprived south, fixes her with his steely gaze and upsets her illusion of safety forever.
BUT NOT IF SHE CAN HELP IT
Griffin knows Cat is the Kingmaker, the woman who divines the truth through lies. He wants her as a powerful weapon for his newly conquered realm—until he realizes he wants her for much more than her magic. Cat fights him at every turn, but Griffin’s fairness, loyalty, and smoldering advances make him increasingly hard to resist and leave her wondering if life really does have to be short, and lived alone.

The Night Raven
The Night Raven by Sarah Painter is 99c! KJ Charles wrote a review for this on on Goodreads when it first came out. She enjoyed the premise, but found the shoddy editing to be distracting. Here’s hoping it’s had a bit of a clean up since then.
Meet Lydia Crow…
Lydia has always known she has no power, especially next to her infamous and more-than-slightly dodgy family. Which is why she carved her own life as a private investigator far away from London.
When a professional snafu forces her home, the head of the family calls in a favour, and Lydia finds herself investigating the disappearance of her cousin, Maddie.
Soon, Lydia is neck-deep in problems: her new flatmate is a homicidal ghost, the intriguing, but forbidden, DCI Fleet is acting in a distinctly unprofessional manner, and tensions between the old magical families are rising.
The Crows used to rule the roost and rumours claim they are still the strongest.
The Silvers have a facility for lying and they run the finest law firm in London.
The Pearl family were costermongers and everybody knows that a Pearlie can sell feathers to a bird.
The Fox family… Well. The less said about the Fox family the better.
For seventy-five years, a truce between the four families has held strong, but could the disappearance of Maddie Crow be the thing to break it?
The Night Raven is the first book in Crow Investigations, an exciting new paranormal mystery series from bestselling author of magical fiction, Sarah Painter.

Truth or Beard
Truth or Beard by Penny Reid is FREE! I know Reid is an auto-buy author for many of you and this one has an enemies to lovers feel to it, judging by the description. Readers say it has Reid’s trademark humor and quirkiness, but warn there’s a scene where the hero is with another woman. I know that’s an off button for some, but Reader Katie Lynn explained that it isn’t a form of cheating.
Beards, brothers, and bikers! Oh my!
Identical twins Beau and Duane Winston might share the same devastatingly handsome face, but where Beau is outgoing and sociable, Duane is broody and reserved. This is why Jessica James, recent college graduate and perpetual level-headed good girl, has been in naïve and unhealthy infatuation with Beau Winston for most of her life.
His friendly smiles make her tongue-tied and weak-kneed, and she’s never been able to move beyond her childhood crush. Whereas Duane and Jessica have always been adversaries. She can’t stand him, and she’s pretty sure he can’t stand the sight of her…
But after a case of mistaken identity, Jessica finds herself in a massive confusion kerfuffle. Jessica James has spent her whole life paralyzed by the fantasy of Beau and her assumptions of Duane’s disdain; therefore she’s unprepared for the reality that is Duane’s insatiable interest, as well as his hot hands and hot mouth and hotter looks. Not helping Jessica’s muddled mind and good girl sensibilities, Duane seems to have gotten himself in trouble with the local biker gang, the Iron Order.
Certainly, Beau’s magic spell is broken. Yet when Jessica finds herself drawn to the man who was always her adversary, now more dangerous than ever, how much of her level-head heart is she willing to risk?

Seconding YOU & ME. It’s one of my favorite books of 2022: M/M (with bi-awakening on the part of one MC) between two men (one widowed, one divorced) who meet when their sons are on the same football team.
Dark Horse by Michelle Diener is a science fiction romance that I’ve read quite a few times. It’s a Kindle deal today for US readers at 99 cents.

Becka Mack’s CONSIDER ME is a Kindle Daily Deal for $0.99.
This is one of my favourite books of 2022, and a great surprise because it’s long (20 hours on audio and I loved every minute) and I thought I was tired of sportsball player surprised by actually falling for a woman stories. Here you see and feel his changes. Wow. Thanks to jeevesread.com for the tip on how enjoyable this is.
I gave A Promise of Fire four stars, and then I hard DNF’ed book 2 (Breath of Fire). It was impressive how fast Bouchet managed to tank a series that started out with such promise. She wanted the reader to believe the conflict in the first chapter was just a misunderstanding, that perspectives gave words different meanings, except Griffin’s words were not ambiguous. The reader can access them without Cat’s POV, and they just don’t work as anything but terrible, and also HE BROKE THE FURITURE and didn’t understand why she was scared. I doubt I’ll ever pick up a book by Bouchet ever again.
Another vote for Tal Bauer’s You & Me! Loved that book.
BLITZ, Daniel O’Malley’s third book in the Rook series (why did I think it was the Checquy series) is on sale today for $4.99. Just the other day I purchased the audio version, which is great, had no expectation the Kindle book would be discounted any time soon.
Rachel Ember has put her Wild Ones m/m series (I think recommended by @DiscoDollyDeb) on sale for $.99 each today. Happy reading!
