  • Wait for It

Wait for It by Mariana Zapata

Wait for It by Mariana Zapata is $2.99! Zapata is an autobuy author for many of you and the book has an impressive 4.3-star rating on Goodreads. Though the heroine has ties to a character in one of Zapata’s previous books, it can be read as a standalone. For any Zapata fans out there, how did this book rate compared to her other romances?

If anyone ever said being an adult was easy, they hadn’t been one long enough.

Diana Casillas can admit it: she doesn’t know what the hell she’s doing half the time. How she’s made it through the last two years of her life without killing anyone is nothing short of a miracle. Being a grown-up wasn’t supposed to be so hard.

With a new house, two little boys she inherited the most painful possible way, a giant dog, a job she usually loves, more than enough family, and friends, she has almost everything she could ever ask for.

    Except for a boyfriend.

    Or a husband.

But who needs either one of those?

  • Guild Boss

    Guild Boss by Jayne Castle

Guild Boss by Jayne Castle is $3.99! This is a paranormal romance and the fifteenth (!!!) book in the Harmony series. I mentioned this on a previous Hide Your Wallet and I think this works fine on its own.

Welcome to Illusion Town on the colony world of Harmony—like Las Vegas on Earth, but way more weird.

Living in this new, alien world doesn’t stop the settlers from trying to re-create what they’ve left behind. Case in point—weddings are still the highlight of any social calendar. But it’s the after-party that turns disastrous for Lucy Bell. Kidnapped and drugged as she leaves the party, she manages to escape—only to find herself lost in the mysterious, alien underground maze of glowing green tunnels beneath Illusion Town. She’s been surviving on determination and cold pizza, scavenged for her by a special dust bunny, when help finally shows up.

Gabriel Jones is the Guild Hunter sent to rescue her, but escaping the underground ruins isn’t the end of her troubles—it’s only the beginning. With no rational reason for her abduction, and her sole witness gone on another assignment for the Guild, whispers start circulating that Lucy made it all up. Soon her life unravels until she has nothing left but her pride. The last thing she expects is for Gabriel Jones to come back to town for her.

The Lucy that Gabriel finds is not the same woman he rescued, the one who looked at him as if he were her hero. This Lucy is sharp, angry, and more than a little cynical—instead of awe, she treats him with extreme caution. But a killer is still hunting her, and there aren’t a lot of options when it comes to heroes. Despite her wariness, Gabriel is also the one person who believes Lucy—after all, he was there. He’s determined to help clear her reputation, no matter what it takes. And as the new Guild Boss, his word is law, even in the lawlessness of Illusion Town.

  • A Scandalous Proposal

A Scandalous Proposal by Kasey Michaels

A Scandalous Proposal by Kasey Michaels is $1.99! This is a historical romance and the second book in The Little Season series. Readers recommend this one for a silly and light romance, while others mentioned they didn’t care for the hero and heroine’s frequent sexual fraternizing. 😛

Who would have thought a man could tire of being fawned over and flirted with? Ever since Cooper Townsend returned from France as a hero with a new title, he has been relentlessly pursued by every marriageable miss in London. Perhaps that’s why the unconventional Miss Daniella Foster is so appealing. She doesn’t simper or flatter. She only wants him to help unmask her sister’s blackmailer, and Coop has never been so intrigued…

Let every other woman in London fight over His Lordship’s romantic attentions. Marriage is the last thing on Dany’s mind…at least until she samples his illicit kisses. Now, as a mutual enemy races to ruin Coop’s reputation and Dany’s family name, an engagement of convenience will spark an unlikely passion that might save them both

  • Mr. Malcolm’s List

Mr. Malcolm’s List by Suzanne Allain

Mr. Malcolm’s List by Suzanne Allain is $2.99! This romance made a lot of “Best of” lists but I’ve heard little about it. Did any of you catch the movie adaptation?

It is a truth universally acknowledged that an arrogant bachelor insistent on a wife who meets the strictest of requirements–deserves his comeuppance.

The Honourable Mr. Jeremy Malcolm is searching for a wife, but not just any wife. As the target of matchmaking mothers and desperate debutantes, he’s determined to avoid the fortune hunters and find a near-perfect woman, one who will meet the qualifications on his well-crafted list. But after years of searching, he’s beginning to despair of ever finding this paragon. Until Selina Dalton arrives in town.

Selina, a vicar’s daughter of limited means and a stranger to high society, is thrilled when her friend Julia Thistlewaite invites her to London, until she learns it’s all part of a plot to exact revenge on Mr. Malcolm. Selina is reluctant to participate in Julia’s scheme, especially after meeting the irresistible Mr. Malcolm, who appears to be very different from the arrogant scoundrel of Julia’s description.

But when Mr. Malcolm begins judging Selina against his unattainable standards, Selina decides that she has some qualifications of her own. And if he is to meet them he must reveal the real man behind…Mr. Malcolm’s List.

  1. JoanneBB says:

Wait for it does have the “not like other girls” trope in it, which is a deal breaker for some. Good supportive families and friends though.

  2. KitBee says:

I read MR. MALCOLM’S LIST and thought it was fine but lacked depth — too fast-paced to allow for much character development. (Also, it’s very G-rated, which may be a plus or a minus for you.) However, I do recommend the movie adaptation, which I found charming!

  3. Maria says:

Thank you @KitBee. I prefer a spicer romance read myself.

  4. Lora says:

Wait for it is a major comfort read for me and a fave zapata title.

  5. FlikChik says:

Jayne Castle is an auto buy for me. You know exactly what you’re getting. All her heroes are interrelated on her three worlds. They define comfort read to me.

  6. Kareni says:

A number of other Mariana Zapata titles are also $2.99.

  7. HeatherS says:

@KitBee: Thanks! I prefer my romances to have more tension/attraction, less on-page action, and that’s often hard to find outside of Christian romances (which have objectionable theology for my Muslim self and general erasure of characters – and authors – of color). I’m loving the emerging YA Muslim romance market, but really do love historical romances in general, and getting G-rated ones is hard without going back to older titles that have some crazysauce and jerk heroes. I’ve considered reading the book and the movie has been on my hold list at the library since I saw it was ordered (still waiting on it to come in).

  8. KitBee says:

@HeatherS – I don’t remember anything explicitly Christian in the book (except I think the heroine is a vicar’s daughter, but that has no relevance to the plot). It’s definitely not an inspirational romance. Everyone is white in the book, but the movie adaptation is more racially diverse.
