  • Wolf Rain

    Wolf Rain by Nalini Singh

    Wolf Rain by Nalini Singh is $2.99! This is part of Psy-Changeling Trinity series and is book three. Aarya wrote a guest post way back when about how much she was anticipating this one. I’m pretty sure it’s best to read these in order, but definitely sound off in the comments.

    New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh takes us on a new adventure in this next novel of the Psy-Changeling Trinity series…

    The end of Silence was supposed to create a better world for future generations. But trust is broken, and the alliance between Psy, Changeling, and human is thin. The problems that led to Silence are back in full force. Because Silence fixed nothing, just hid the problems.

    This time, the Psy have to find a real answer to their problems–if one exists. Or their race will soon go extinct in a cascade of violence. The answer begins with an empath who is attuned to monsters–and who is going to charm a wolf into loving her despite his own demons.

  • Wild and Wicked Things

    Wild and Wicked Things by Francesca May

    Wild and Wicked Things by Francesca May is $3.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and was released in March. Sarah mentioned in on a Hide Your Wallet and we’re all very curious about this historical fantasy with potentially dark, witchy lesbians.

    In the aftermath of World War I, a naive woman is swept into a glittering world filled with dark magic, romance, and murder in this lush and decadent debut.

    On Crow Island, people whisper, real magic lurks just below the surface.

    Neither real magic nor faux magic interests Annie Mason. Not after it stole her future. She’s only on the island to settle her late father’s estate and, hopefully, reconnect with her long-absent best friend, Beatrice, who fled their dreary lives for a more glamorous one.

    Yet Crow Island is brimming with temptation, and the biggest one may be her enigmatic new neighbor.

    Mysterious and alluring, Emmeline Delacroix is a figure shadowed by rumors of witchcraft. And when Annie witnesses a confrontation between Bea and Emmeline at one of the island’s extravagant parties, she is drawn into a glittering, haunted world. A world where the boundaries of wickedness are tested, and the cost of illicit magic might be death.

  • Marion Lane and the Midnight Murder

    Marion Lane and the Midnight Murder by T.A. Willberg

    Marion Lane and the Midnight Murder by T.A. Willberg is $2.99! This is a historical mystery with some steampunk vibes. Sadly, Lara gave this one the ol’ DNF. Did any of you fare better?

    The letter was short. A name, a time, a place.

    Marion Lane and the Midnight Murder plunges readers into the heart of London, to the secret tunnels that exist far beneath the city streets. There, a mysterious group of detectives recruited for Miss Brickett’s Investigations & Inquiries use their cunning and gadgets to solve crimes that have stumped Scotland Yard.

    Late one night in April 1958, a filing assistant for Miss Brickett’s named Michelle White receives a letter warning her that a heinous act is about to occur. She goes to investigate but finds the room empty. At the stroke of midnight, she is murdered by a killer she can’t see—her death the only sign she wasn’t alone. It becomes chillingly clear that the person responsible must also work for Miss Brickett’s, making everyone a suspect.

    Almost unwillingly, Marion Lane, a first-year Inquirer-in-training, finds herself being drawn ever deeper into the investigation. When her friend and mentor is framed for the crime, to clear his name she must sort through the hidden alliances at Miss Brickett’s and secrets dating back to WWII. Masterful, clever and deliciously suspenseful, Marion Lane and the Midnight Murder is a fresh take on the Agatha Christie—style locked-room mystery with an exciting new heroine detective at the helm.

  • Undercover Bromance

    Undercover Bromance by Lyssa Kay Adams

    Undercover Bromance by Lyssa Kay Adams is $1.99! A lot of the Bitchery has enjoyed this series about heroes creating a romance book club. It also inspired an actual romance book club for men. Catherine gave this one a D and warns that this may not be the fluffy read you want right now.

    Braden Mack thinks reading romance novels makes him an expert in love, but he’ll soon discover that real life is better than fiction.

    Liv Papandreas has a dream job as a sous chef at Nashville’s hottest restaurant. Too bad the celebrity chef owner is less than charming behind kitchen doors. After she catches him harassing a young hostess, she confronts him and gets fired. Liv vows revenge, but she’ll need assistance to take on the powerful chef.

    Unfortunately, that means turning to Braden Mack. When Liv’s blackballed from the restaurant scene, the charismatic nightclub entrepreneur offers to help expose her ex-boss, but she is suspicious of his motives. He’ll need to call in reinforcements: the Bromance Book Club.

    Inspired by the romantic suspense novel they’re reading, the book club assists Liv in setting up a sting operation to take down the chef. But they’re just as eager to help Mack figure out the way to Liv’s heart… even though she’s determined to squelch the sparks between them before she gets burned.

  1. Vicki says:

    So back in 1970, when my 14 yo baby brother’s summer job was programming and building systems for the local med center, one of his older co-workers (tall, runner’s build, dark haired) was reading category romances to try to learn what women liked. I sacrificed some of my time to try to help him learn about reality, not fiction. Early bromance book club? Though I do not seem to have gotten into this series so far. Maybe I should try again.

  2. Lena Brassard/Ren Benton says:

    @Vicki: Fifty years later, “have conversations with people without the idea that it’s a waste of time if it doesn’t lead to getting laid” remains an alien concept. I once almost told someone seeking the secrets of the mythical female hivemind that the only universal desire is basic human decency, but then I remembered that I’ve personally met women who equate kindness with weakness, so there’s literally nothing we’d all agree on. Sorry, folks, there’s just no getting around the need to speak to people you’re allegedly interested in so you can find out how to fake your entire personality to temporarily appeal to them! (I guess that’s how it works?)

  3. EJ says:

    @Vicki

    What I want in real life as a straight woman is so different from most of the romances I enjoy. I’d be down to date a man who reads romance though!

    Actually, I take it back slightly. The thing about heroes in romance novels is that they communicate. A lot. They often say stupid things but they say what’s on their mind and that’s so hard to find in real life, I’ve found.

  4. KitBee says:

    I thought the first Marion Lane book was disappointing; all the focus was on plot/action, and the characters and world-building were underdeveloped. I’m actually reading book #2 now…I had hope that things might improve, but so far I’m not impressed.

  5. MaryK says:

    I think I read Wolf Rain and enjoyed it though I could tell I was missing nuance. It helped that I’ve read early books in the Psy/Changling series so knew the basic concepts. I was proud of myself for predicting what the mystery surrounding the hero would be.

    *I say “think” because wow is that a generic blurb. The one I read was about an alpha female wolf and an arrow.

  6. WS says:

    @MaryK
    Alpha female wolf+arrow is Alpha Night. Wolf Rain is the one about a girl that a wolf finds trapped in a bunker (her name is Memory) who can temporarily give psychopaths a sense of what it’s like to feel emotions.

  7. MaryK says:

    @WS – Ah, thanks.

    Looks like I already have this one but haven’t read it.

  8. Susanna says:

    Strongly advise reading the Psy Changling books in order, yes.
