Contemporary romance/mystery I read around 2008/2009.
A woman lives in New York City, I think? She has 2 best friends. I don’t remember what any of them did, but they were all successful 20-somethings.
There’s a serial killer on the loose that has killed at least a couple of young women their age. I think the killer at one point breaks into the heroine’s apartment, but she’s not home at the time.
If I recall, the main character ends up falling in love with the head detective/cop that’s in charge of the case. That’s about all I can remember from the book, but there was a 2nd one. I didn’t read that one, but I remember reading the synopsis for it, and one of her friends ends up being murdered by the killer.

I’ve got nothing that matches all the points mentioned, but just in case you might be misremembering some of it: Could it be “Mr. Perfect” by Linda Howard? It’s only the one book (no sequel) and it takes place in Michigan, but it’s got a four (girl)friends, a break-in, the main female character ends up dating her cop neighbour (can’t remember if he’s in charge of the investigation) and there’s a killer on the loose who

It sounds like a Lisa Gardner I read years ago but I can’t find it in my book files.
My first thought was Mary Higgins Clark’s Love Music, Loves to Dance but that’s more mystery than romantic suspense.

hmmm…maybe Lainey Reese’s Damaged Goods? that takes place in NYC and the MFC has two friends- one is killed, the other attacked (if I remember correctly.)
