Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses.Happy Wednesday! We’re in April! Whoa!

Will I celebrate another pandemic birthday? Who knows! But I will be fully vaccinated by then and I will walk my happy ass to the grocery store and buy a bakery sheet cake with ALL THE BUTTERCREAM.

I also had my first eyebrow wax and haircut in over a year and I nearly cried. We’re almost there, friends!

Loved this profile on the Wikipedia editors who are dedicating to fixing the gender gap on historical information and bios. One thing that routinely blows my mind is that this is all volunteer work!

Chuck Tingle is in audio! Not sure if this is their first audiobook, but I thought the sample was great!

TONIGHT! I’ll be introducing these authors and guiding the audience Q&A, if any of you want to take a peek at my new haircut!

If you love listening to poetry, there’s now a Spotify playlist for you!

Earlier in the pandemic, I watched and loved Ted Lasso on Apple TV. Recently, I saw that Roxane Gay received a promo package, which means season two is on its way! If you want to relive the magic or do something to celebrate, Binging with Babish recreated Ted’s infamous shortbread biscuits.

Don’t forget to share what super cool things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

As another doubly vaccinated person with a late April birthday, who knows? I’m not making any set plans outside of my house, just tentative “I may see my mom if we’re not shut down again.”

  2. Escapeologist says:

That Chuck Tingle audio sample was quite enjoyable.
By the way, Audible has it categorized as Erotica, did they not read the title? Lol

Wikipedia relies entirely on donations, maybe there’s corporate funding, not sure. But yes, all volunteers and even the smallest donation helps.

Shortbread is something I have worked on for years, looking to replicate or at least come close to the shortbread caramel slices from Betty’s of York. They can’t ship these particular items and my luggage–true story–only had room for one plastic storage box containing 64 slices. Heaven.

I have a lot to say about shortbread, not the least of which is don’t use a mixer. This is lightly hand-worked dough, preferably with cool hands. In the US, if you can get European butter, great; Trader Joe’s French Cultured butter is fabulous for this, imo.

Felicity Cloake for The Guardian writes well-researched columns on how to make the perfect everything, in this case the perfect shortbread. That’s where I started and my recipe came out of that. It’s fascinating, really, all the ways and things one can do to shortbread. If it’s not OK to post the link to the Cloake article, please delete it.

re Ted Lasso : tea is not “garbage water”. I would not be the charming person that I am if not for my cuppa in the morning. That is all.

  5. @Amanda says:

@Kaz159: I’m sorry, Kaz, but I’m team Ted on this one. For some reason, tea rarely is good for me. Maybe there’s something I’m missing!

  6. Zuzus says:

I’d love to read a SBTB review of Ted Lasso, and I am so ready for season 2.

  7. Katie says:

Really enjoyed the Ilona Andrews blog post on this house in Baltimore with a very committed combination vampire/football aesthetic:

They also have a link to an interview with the real estate agent in there, and was funny.

  8. Helen B says:

The garbage water people probably never had tea made with actual tea leafs and boiling water. A cup of tepid water plus tea bag does make garbage water.

  9. @Amanda says:

@Helen: I do use a kettle and have used looseleaf teas. I just think it’s too weak for my tastes, as I’m a dedicated coffee drinker. /shrug

  10. Kaz159 says:

Oh Amanda! Helen B is correct. As a Canadian/Australian, your American “tea” is not tea. Maybe it’s the water?!?! I’m drinking Twinings Australian Afternoon (brisk & full-bodied) right now. Shall I send you some? Apropo nothing – check out the Bushells tea website for a lovely ad encouraging communication for your well being (over a cuppa).

  11. @Amanda says:

@Kaz: Not much I can do about the water, haha.
