This HaBO comes from Morgan, who wants to find the first romance they ever read:
Lately I’ve been thinking about the first romance I ever read and I cannot remember the title/author! I’m a librarian so I’ve tried the usually Google tricks, etc, but am coming up with nada.
I got it in the bargain bin at a Books A Million in 1999 (ish) and it was a slim (no more than 300 pgs) paperback- I’m thinking Avon? It had a white woman on the cover, rolling in some clover or on a lawn or something. The main color on the cover was definitely green. It took place in post-1900 America, and for some reason, I really think it was on the west coast. The hero was (of course) a rich widowed man with a child, and I remember she was sneaking around his desk (which he later has sex with her on) and then she gets hired as a nanny. I remember he loved the sexy bow (?!) on the back of her dress. He then gives her a bow, or a hat with a bow on it as a gift. I don’t think it was by a popular author. That’s about it. Thank you!
SEXY BOWS!
I don’t have the answer but this made me think of the scene in the 2005 pride and prejudice movie when mr. Bingley reaches out with a trembling hand and touches the ribbon on the back of jane’s dress. It was like a 2 second scene and kinda made me swoon.
I envision a scene with the heroine wearing a nightgown that has about a quadrazillion tiny bows keeping it closed and the hero untying them one by one with his teeth and tongue.
If such a scene is in the bok, I want to read it. But I have no idea which book it is.
This probably isn’t it, but it brought to mind Undercover Princess by Suzanne Brockmann. It’s one of her older books in which a “princess” disguises herself while trying to find her lost brother and ends up working as a nanny for a rich Texas (?) tycoon. Sounds preposterous, and it was, but it was also fun and there was a lot of hot hanky panky on desks and elsewhere.
