  • Project Duchess

    Project Duchess by Sabrina Jeffries

Project Duchess by Sabrina Jeffries is $1.99! This historical romance is the first book in the Duke Dynasty series. I also made a cocktail for this one! Jeffries books are hit or miss for me and if memory serves me right, a Jeffries title was the first book we read for my romance book club!

From New York Times bestselling author Sabrina Jeffries comes a sparkling new series about an oft-widowed mother’s grown children, who blaze through society in their quest for the truth about their fathers . . . and in the process find that love just might conquer all . . .

A series of stepfathers and a difficult childhood have left Fletcher “Grey” Pryde, 5th Duke of Greycourt, with a guarded heart, enviable wealth, and the undeserved reputation of a rogue. Grey’s focus on expanding his dukedom allows him little time to find a wife. But when his mother is widowed yet again and he meets the charmingly unconventional woman managing his stepfather’s funeral, he’s shocked to discover how much they have in common. Still, Grey isn’t interested in love, no matter how pretty, or delightfully outspoken, the lady . . .

Beatrice Wolfe gave up on romance long ago, and the arrogant Duke of Greycourt with his rakish reputation isn’t exactly changing her mind. Then Grey agrees to assist his grief-stricken mother with her latest “project”: schooling spirited, unfashionable Beatrice for her debut. Now that Beatrice is seeing through Grey’s charms to his wounded heart, she’s having trouble keeping him at arm’s length. But once Grey starts digging into her family’s secrets, she must decide whether her loyalties lie with her family . . . or with the man whose lessons capture her heart . . .

  • All In

    All In by Simona Ahrnstedt

RECOMMENDED: All In by Simona Ahrnstedt is $2.99! Redheadedgirl gave the book an A:

I felt like this was full of Shakespearean drama, and scheming families, and hot sex, and gorgeous clothes, but also some important things to say about how the world is functioning. There’s a lot going on, though, and the ending a tad rushed.

In the cutthroat world of Sweden’s financial elite, no one knows that better than corporate raider David Hammar. Ruthless. Notorious. Unstoppable. He’s out to hijack the ultimate prize, Investum. After years of planning, all the players are in place; he needs just one member of the aristocratic owning family on his side–Natalia De la Grip.

Elegant, brilliant, driven to succeed in a man’s world, Natalia is curious about David’s unexpected invitation to lunch. Everyone knows that he is rich, dangerous, unethical; she soon discovers he is also deeply scarred.

The attraction between these two is impossible, but the long Swedish nights unfold an affair that will bring to light shocking secrets, forever alter a family, and force both Natalia and David to confront their innermost fears and desires.

  • His Wicked Sins

His Wicked Sins by Eve Silver

His Wicked Sins by Eve Silver is 99c at Amazon! The book is available elsewhere, but at full price. Elyse is a huge fan of Silver’s Gothic romances. While this one can be read as a standalone despite being the fourth book in the series, the first book is FREE if you prefer to read in order.

Determined to help her impoverished family, Elizabeth Canham accepts a position at Burndale Academy, an isolated girl’s school filled with secrets and shadows. There she meets mysterious widower Griffin Fairfax, a man dogged by dark rumours, a man who both frightens and fascinates her.

But Beth has secrets of her own, nightmares that haunt her and fears that follow her into the light of day when a woman is found dead in the nearby woods—the victim of a brutal murder… a murder that bears terrifying similarity to others. Then Beth discovers that all the victims were intimately connected to Griffin. Beth’s past has taught her to be wary, but her heart tells her that Griffin cannot be the charming, seductive killer stalking the night, stealing women’s hearts…and lives.

  • The Alchemical Detective

The Alchemical Detective by Kirsten Weiss

The Alchemical Detective by Kirsten Weiss is 99c! This is the first book in the urban fantasy Riga Hayworth series. Yes, Riga Hayworth. However, the description notes that the heroine is in her 40s, which is fantastic.

    Her gargoyle’s got an attitude.

    Her magic’s on the blink.

Alchemy might be the cure… if Riga can survive long enough to puzzle out its mysteries.

The first in the addictive, action-packed Riga Hayworth series.

Someone’s killing psychics in bucolic Lake Tahoe, and the police think Riga may be connected to the crimes.

    They could be right.

Riga recognizes the sinister hand of a long-dead enemy in the crime scene. Juggling demons, daimons, and a devilish casino owner, can this metaphysical detective catch a killer before she becomes the next target?

If you’re a fan of Patricia Briggs, Jim Butcher, Charlaine Harris or Deborah Harkness, don’t miss this twisty paranormal mystery, because this complicated, 40-something heroine isn’t like the others…

  1. DonnaMarie says:

I say it every time All In comes up in a post: I adored this book! I’m all in for tropetastc Swedish romance.

  2. harthad says:

Not A Romance, but it has been mentioned by the Bitchery before, I think: A Blade So Black, an urban fantasy update of Alice in Wonderland in which Alice is a young black woman from Atlanta, is on sale at Amazon and B&N for $2.99.

  3. Kit says:

Ok interest piqued about alchemical detective. Haven’t read many urban fantasy/ paranormal with a forty something in, so I’ll check out the sample.

  4. MaryK says:

The amazon reviews for Alchemical Detective are saying this is really book 2, and when you look at the series (8 books), there’s a book 0. Some reviews complain of too much romance so that’s promising.

  5. Momo says:

The cover of “His Wicked Sins” is a near-exact copy of the cover of “The Richmond Thief” by Lisa Boero.

  6. Momo says:

On further examination, Silver’s book seems to have been published first. Hm.

  7. carole says:

Kirsten Weiss has the first book of another of her series free on amazon.ca: Bound: A Doyle Witch Cozy Mystery (The Witches of Doyle Book 1)

  8. DiscoDollyDeb says:

@Momo: Cover images (with or without some changes) can appear on multiple books. One of my favorite images has appeared on at least three books that I’m aware of.

  9. Momo says:

@DiscoDollyDeb Interesting. I’ve seen the use of similar stock photos, but I’ve never seen the entire image (model + background) reused. Didn’t know that was a thing until now, but I guess I shouldn’t be all that surprised.

  10. Susannah says:

@DiscoDollyDeb I once bought the wrong book because the cover was identical to the book I *did* want to buy.

  11. Konst. says:

Another Silver on sale?!?!? Click-click-click-happy-book-noises 🙂

  12. Ren Benton says:

Friday, Rin Chupeco’s THE BONE WITCH is $0.99 and the sequel THE HEART FORGER $1.99.

  13. mel burns says:

Hey! I miss Redheaded girl’s reviews.

  14. BellaInAus says:

    @Susannah,
I once bought a book because it had the same cover models as another book I’d already read, only reversed. Purely because of the reversed image.

    I’m odd like that.

  15. Ren Benton says:

And Saturday, THE SHADOWGLASS, the third of those Rin Chupeco books, is $2.99. Books one and two are still on sale, so you can get the entire trilogy for ~$6!

  16. DiscoDollyDeb says:

@BellaInAus: I’ve done that too. I’ve also read books because I liked the cover model—and take it from your in-house cover-model maven, that is not the best way to find a good book.

  17. Carrie W says:

The dance position is mirror image of what it’s supposed to be! The lady should have her left hand on the gentleman’s shoulder. How did no one in the publishing department notice that?

  18. Vicki says:

I had an old Harlequin I kept because I loved the cover model (story wasn’t bad, either). Ten years later, one of my attendings looked just like the guy on the cover. Such a crush! Took me a month to be able to present on rounds without stuttering. (No, nothing happened; we were both otherwise invoved.)
