Help A Bitch Out

HaBO: Knotted Rope Goes Where?

This HaBO comes from Malca, who is hoping to find this extremely steamy historical romance:

Well, when I was a teenager, my mom took a book away from me and now that I’m in my 30s, I’m curious to finish it!

It was a historical romance – I want to say Zebra, but I’m not sure – and it was set in the Regency, but it was not published as a Regency romance. It was a thicker book. I think the spine was white.

Unfortunately the only thing I remember is the scene that caused the book to be taken away: the villain does something kinky with his female minion where he ties a rope into a series of knots, shoves them inside her, and then penetrates her repeatedly as she scoots backwards up the stairs. It seems like it should be a fairly unique scene.

Though I don’t remember the plot, I do remember enjoying the book up until that point, and I’d really like to give it another try if I can find it! It will have been published pre-2007 I think. I’d guess in the 90s or early 2000s.

Well that certainly is something.

I have no idea which book it is, but I’m partially curious and partially wincing.

  2. Carol says:

    rope burn yuck

  3. Lisa F says:

    ….Ow.

I feel like this might be a Bertrice Small? Her villians were forever giving bondage a bad name by inserting objects like this into orifices where they don’t belong.

  4. Carol S. says:

Readers of a certain age, like me, may remember the goldfish scene in “Lace”

  5. MaryW says:

I agree with Lisa F that it sounds like a Bertrice Small, but I don’t know which one.
(My HABO from several years ago was also a memorable villain inserting object into orifice scene and turned out to be Bertrice Small)

  6. Diane says:

I’m pretty sure Susan Johnson also used the rope trick, but I don’t remember anything about scooting back up the stairs. Susan was right up there with Bertrice in writing crazy purple sex scenes.

  7. Karen D says:

Another writer who could get pretty creative with the sexual antics is Stella Cameron. She wrote some historicals years ago, one with a paint brush used in a similar scenario, so it could be one of hers.

  8. Lisa F says:

@CarolS – OH MY GOD MEMORIES! THE HORRIBLE MEMORIES!

  9. Monique D says:

Oh my goodness! I’ll make sure to avoid Bertrice Small!

  10. Iris says:

I was certain I’d read a scene just like but couldn’t remember the title or author until Karen D mentioned Stella Cameron. Although it was a sash from a silk robe tied in knots, everything else about the scene from Cameron’s Testing Miss Toogood is just as you remember.

An odd thing is that Amazon doesn’t show a kindle option for the book but I was able to check it out from my library’s overdrive system a few minutes ago to verify my memory.

  11. Tina says:

Zebra never disappoints. I don’t know what this book is but a Zebra book introduced me to anal beads.

  12. Lisa F says:

    Good work, Iris!

At least it was silk and not, y’know, rope rope. OW.

@Monique D – her romance is very Old Skool in this way. She’s written around…maybe three or four books I’d recommend that have neither rape nor underage heroines nor villain sex that involves this kind of stuff.

  13. WS says:

I’m interested to see it was Stella Cameron. I had been wondering if it was Thea Devine.

  14. Lisa F says:

@WS – Bless Thea Devine. Her romances were spicy!

@Tina – Zebra introduced me to the concept of anal, I do believe.
