HaBO: Firefighter Hero Reconciles with Wife

This HaBO request was sent in by Susanna, who is searching for the last book in a series:

I’m looking for a second chance romance book that was part of a firefighter series. I only read the blurb of the book on Goodreads, but here’s what I remember.

The hero is the chief of his firefighter squad and loves the danger of his job too much, leading to him either getting divorced or separated from the heroine and she moves away with their two sons.

Few years later, the heroine realizes she’s really sick (maybe cancer?) and tries to “reconcile” with the hero so that he’ll take care of the kids after she potentially dies.

I also remember this book was the fourth and last book of that firefighter series.

Anyone know this firefighter romance?

If we are going back through unsolved HaBO’s I vote for this one. I’ve been wanting to read that book for 4 years.

  2. Lisa F says:

Oh gosh, this is on the tip of my tongue. I think it might be one of Shannon Stacey’s Boston Firefighters books?

  3. Georgina says:

Lisa F, you might be thinking of Heat Exchange? There’s a secondary romance in that book with a similar plot of reconciliation, but no cancer or kids.

  4. Vivienne says:

Could it be one of Jennifer Bernard’s firemen series?

  5. Lisa F says:

Georgina, I think that might be what I was thinking of!

Vivienne might be getting closer with the Bernard guess. I think it might be one of those longer fire fighter romance series. It feels familiar and kind of reminds me of the movie ‘Fireproof’ but there are several differences there.

I just noticed Shannon Stacey’s UNDER CONTROL was on sale in the kindle store and there are some plot similarities: Firefighter, divorced with two kids, rescues a woman from a stuck elevator; he meets her again at a charity function. She’s a wealthy business woman, so there are some class differences. No cancer or reconciliation with spouse to my knowledge however.

A Kathyrn Shay book. Maybe “El Bombero”, a novella included in “America’s Bravest”. It it isn’t that one, it must be a subplot in a different book.

  8. Donna says:

I haven’t read any of these, but could it be the Golden Beach series by Kim Loraine? The last book in the series is called Remnants. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/36107413-remnants
