Romance on The 1A, Today at 11am ET!

The 1A logo with 1A in the upper corner of an American flag instead of the field of stars, with stripes filling in the rest of the space. At the base it says WAMU and NPR - also, hi screen reading folks hope you're having a great dayHeads up! Today, 13 September at 11am EDT, The 1A will be doing a long segment on romance fiction!

“Just Can’t Help Falling in Love…With Romance Novels” will begin at 11, and will feature Alisha Rai, Leah Koch from The Ripped Bodice, Alexandra Alter from the Times, Alyssa Cole, and me.

It’s live radio, too, so you’ll get to hear me when I’m extra nervous and trying to keep my cool.

You can tune in on The1A.org, and the show is also broadcast on a number of NPR stations across the US.

Now I will begin taking deep breaths and hoping I don’t sneeze into the mic or something equally embarrassing.

ETA: Thank you to everyone who listened in and responded via social media! The audio should be up shortly is up! for listening should you wish.

And thank you to Joshua Johnson for hosting such a great hour of conversation, and especially to Gabrielle Healy at 1A, who produced this episode and did a fantastic job.

This is amazing!! I LOVE Joshua Johnson and 1A. You all did great. I had a lot of pride for this community while listening to this.

Ok I’m commenting again because I just finished it (my first comment was at about 25 minutes in lol). I mostly wanted to say to Sarah that you didn’t sound nervous at all! You sounded smart and compassionate. I love that this was on mainstream radio and I’m going to send it to my reader sister who was skeptical when I admitted how much romance reading I do.

  3. Critterbee says:

    You sounded great, Sarah!

  4. Lisa W. says:

Thanks for this info! I discovered the 1A is also released as a podcast on iTunes, so I look forward to listening tomorrow during my data-entry job (my job is also the reason why a friend recommended YOUR podcast, too!)

  5. Janet says:

Great show, Sarah. I really hope that “all her goods and services hanging out there” will enter into the romance lexicon (Joshua’s definition of a cover heroine’s cleavage).

That was a great discussion and you, Sarah, sounded great. (You all sounded great! I was surprised somehow by Alisha Rai’s voice — I like it.) I think your experience in interviews really shined. I love 1A and notice that sometimes Joshua Johnson gets people who aren’t on radio so often & so don’t know how to take advantage of that interview format. I liked the message you were able to repeat a few times: there’s something for everyone here, romance prioritizes women’s voices and lives and happiness, and there are websites & stores that can help any reader find their thing!

Leah did a really good job getting the listener to want to check out the Ripped Bodice; I hope your traffic is spiking today 😉 ; and Alisha of course is amazing.

  7. SB Sarah says:

Thank you all so much for the positive comments and compliments!! That means a lot. Thank you for listening!

And if you’re a 1A listener who has checked out the site – welcome! We’re always happy to provide recommendations.

The link you show is to the homepage. Here is the link to the show itself. https://the1a.org/shows/2018-09-13/just-cant-help-falling-in-love-with-romance-novels

  9. Stefanie Magura says:

The link I was making reference to is the link hyperlinked on the text ‘is up,’ and not the link hyperlinked to the title of the piece. Apparently, that one leads to the correct place. My apologies. I enjoyed the interview.

Awesome show! You sounded great, Sarah!
