  • Getaway Girl

    Getaway Girl by Tessa Bailey

Getaway Girl by Tessa Bailey is 99c! This is a standalone contemporary romance and one that I’m excited about because I absolutely love Charleston, SC. It’s sitting on my Kindle as we speak! Some readers were conflicted about the fact that the hero was indeed ready to marry his fiance before everything went tits up. But I also recommend Bailey for people who love hot sex scenes and dirty talking.

This unlikely getaway driver never expected to help the mayor escape…

After a six-year absence, Addison Potts is back in Charleston to stir things up. And what better place to make her villainous return than her estranged cousin’s wedding? Only, the nuptials hit a snag when the bride doesn’t show, leaving Addison to play getaway driver for the jilted groom. A groom whose heartbreaking smile and deep, southern drawl she should not be noticing…

Elijah Montgomery Du Pont is the future mayor of Charleston. From his military career to city hall, every detail of his life has been meticulously planned. Until now. His only respite from life’s sudden upheaval is Addison, his new, improbable best friend. She makes him happy. Grounds him. And public disapproval be damned, he’s not willing to give her up. But with an election on the line and public pressure rising, Addison—and the cruel hand of fate—might not give him a choice.

  • What a Lady Craves

What a Lady Craves by Ashlyn Macnamara

What a Lady Craves by Ashlyn Macnamara is $2.99! This is a historical romance and we’ve talked about (more like ogled) Macnamara’s cover designs on a previous podcast. For fans of second chance romances, this may be for you. But many readers had issues with the hero and his actions. Have you read this one?

Ashlyn Macnamara weaves a delicious tale of two souls torn apart by circumstance and reunited by fate—perfect for fans of Julia Quinn, Eloisa James, and Sabrina Jeffries.

Henrietta Upperton is about to marry Alexander Sanford when he rushes off to India to salvage his family’s fortune. Then comes the devastating news that he has wed another. Eight agonizing years later, a storm washes Alexander ashore—injured, widowed, and hunted—and one glimpse of his ruggedly handsome face reawakens the desire Henrietta thought she had buried deep inside. Her body still yearns for his touch, but she’s determined not let him wound her again . . . not this time.

For Alexander, honor always comes first. But only now does he realize that when given the choice between two virtuous deeds, he picked the wrong one. On the run with his life in tatters and a pair of daughters in tow, Alexander burns for Henrietta. He knows he does not deserve forgiveness. And yet he longs to wrap his arms around her warm body once again. What’s more, he is sure the lady craves the same.

  • Rise

    Rise by Karina Bliss

Rise by Karina Bliss is 99c! This is the first book in the Rock Solid series and I feel like I’ve seen this recommended in the comments before. I’m not much of a fan of rockstar romances, but the setup of this one has me reconsidering. Surprisingly, some found the book boring, but it has a lot of 4 and 5 star ratings. Let me know your thoughts on this one!

Acclaimed literary biographer Elizabeth Winston writes about long-dead heroes. So bad-boy rock icon Zander Freedman couldn’t possibly tempt her to write his memoir. Except the man is a mass of fascinating contradictions–manipulative, honest, gifted, charismatic and morally ambiguous.

In short, everything she seeks in a biography subject. When in her life will she get another chance to work with a living legend? But saying yes to one temptation soon leads to another. Suddenly she’s having heated fantasies about her subject, fantasies this blue-eyed devil is only too willing to stoke. She thought self-control was in her DNA; after all, she grew up a minister’s daughter.

    She thought wrong.

Rock star Zander Freedman has been an outlier–many would say an outcast–for most of his life. But there’s no disaster he can’t overcome, from the breakup of his band to the inevitable damage to his reputation. His Resurrection Tour is shaping up to be his greatest triumph–if his golden voice holds out. Contracting a respected biographer is simply about creating more buzz. Elizabeth’s integrity is the key to consolidating his legacy as one of rock’s greats. All the damn woman has to do is write down what he tells her. Not force him to think. Or encourage the good guy struggling to get out. And certainly not make him fall in love for the first time in his life. Turns out he is scared of something: being known.

  • The Blades of the Rose Bundle

The Blades of the Rose Bundle by Zoe Archer

RECOMMENDED: The Blades of the Rose bundle by Zoe Archer is $2.99 at select vendors! The bundle is four books with lots of adventuring in a historical setting and some steampunk elements. I really enjoyed this series, though I think Warrior might be my favorite. Any other fans of the series in the Bitchery?

The Blades of the Rose Bundle

    Warrior

The vicious attack Capt. Gabriel Huntley witnesses in a dark alley sparks a chain of events that will take him to the ends of the Earth and beyond–where what is real and what is imagined become terribly confused. And frankly, Huntley couldn’t be more pleased. Intrigue, danger, and a beautiful woman in distress–just what he needs.

Raised thousands of miles from England, Thalia Burgess is no typical Victorian lady. A good thing, because a proper lady would have no hope of recovering the priceless magical artifact Thalia is after. Huntley’s assistance might come in handy, though she has to keep him in the dark. But this distractingly handsome soldier isn’t easy to deceive…

    Scoundrel

London Harcourt’s father is bent on subjugating the world’s magic to British rule. But since London is a mere female, he hasn’t bothered to tell her so. He’s said only that he’s leading a voyage to the Greek isles. No matter, after a smothering marriage and three years of straitlaced widowhood, London jumps at the opportunity–unfortunately, right into the arms of Bennett Day.

Bennett is a ladies’ man, when he’s not dodging lethal attacks to protect the powers of the ancients from men like London’s father. Sometimes, he’s a ladies’ man even when he is dodging them. But the minute he sees London he knows she will require his full attention. The woman is lovely, brilliant, and the only known speaker of a dialect of ancient Greek that holds the key to calling down the wrath of the gods. Bennett will be risking his life again–but around London, what really worries him is the danger to his heart…

    Rebel

Nathan Lesperance is used to being different. He’s the first Native attorney in Vancouver, and welcome neither with white society nor his sometime tribe. Not to mention the powerful wildness he’s always felt inside him, too dangerous to set free. Then he met Astrid Bramfield and saw his like within her piercing eyes. Now, unless she helps him through the harsh terrain and the harsher unknowns of his true abilities, it could very well get him killed…

Astrid has traveled this path before. Once she was a Blade of the Rose, protecting the world’s magic from unscrupulous men, with her husband by her side. But she’s loved and lost, and as a world-class frontierswoman, she knows all about survival. Nathan’s searing gaze and long, lean muscles mean nothing but trouble. Yet something has ignited a forgotten flame inside her: a burning need for adventure, for life–and perhaps even for love…

    Stranger

Gemma Murphy has a nose for a story–even if the boys in Chicago’s newsrooms would rather focus on her chest. So when she runs into a handsome man of mystery discussing how to save the world from fancy-pants Brit conspirators, she’s sensing a scoop. Especially when he mentions there’s magic involved. Of course, getting him on the record would be easier if he hadn’t caught her eavesdropping…

Catullus Graves knows what it’s like to be shut out: his ancestors were slaves. And he’s a genius inventor with appropriately eccentric habits, so even people who love him find him a little odd. But after meeting a certain redheaded scribbler, he’s thinking of other types of science. Inconvenient, given that he needs to focus on preventing the end of the world as we know it. But with Gemma’s insatiable curiosity sparking Catullus’s inventive impulses, they might set off something explosive anyway…

  1. Karen D says:

What a Lady Craves sounds interesting but the hero’s full name is the exact same as my nephew’s so…NOPE.

  2. Katie Lynn says:

I think Rise is the book that has a good character arc for the hero, as he was the “bad guy” in What the Librarian Did. I bought it last year after reading WtLd, but haven’t read it yet. I liked the Librarian book.

  3. Daniela says:

I really enjoyed Getaway Girl! I didn’t have a problem with the hero being ready to marry his fiancee – I think the author does a good job at explaining why that’s not such an obstacle. I did, however, have a problem with his sometimes extreme jealousy/possessiveness – it almost felt out of character. But if you can get past those moments and don’t mind a big dollop of ‘all of this would be quickly resolved if you just TALK.TO.EACH.OTHER” then this is a great read.

  4. Snowmom says:

Loved Getaway Girl! It was really funny & steamy. I found it refreshing that the H was not very adventurous sexually. It was nice that the h was more experienced. I agree 100% with you, Daniela, “talk to each other/resolve the conflict” that was one of the book’s downfalls. I have a like/love relationship with Tessa Bailey. Her books are always enjoyable. Some are awesome. This one is awesome. Another great one is Captivated.

  5. Ginger says:

I’m not much of a rock star romance girl, but I read Rise and then the rest of that series (including going back and reading the librarian book). I thought they were really well written and I’m looking forward to the new one that’s coming out.

  6. Deet says:

If you have a low tolerance for hero BS you may not enjoy What a Lady Craves as Alexander doesnt respect Henrietta’s boundaries:

“If he could wear her down through kisses and touches, he might yet win her back. ”

Also there are two really irritating plot moppets. I hate them all and I regret wasting $2.99 on this. Gah.

  7. Deet says:

Came back to update: I had to speed read past the narcissistic “wah wah me and my feelings/your lady feelings aren’t as important as mine” douchebaggery because I suspected that the only ethnic character, Satya, might turn out to be the killer…nope. The only other ethnic character was the killer (not sure he had a name but I was speed readin’) and Satya was a spy. So that’s not great.

  8. Shana says:

I recommend the Blades of the Rose books by Zoe Archer to everyone who asks and everyone that doesn’t ask. They are amazing. Strong women. Respect. Great story lines. <3 them.

I think my favorite is Stranger, because Catullus. Second is Warrior, because Thalia.

  9. Antipodean Shenanigans says:

Rise is very very good. I loved the more mature protagonists.
There is quite a bit with secondary characters (who all have subsequent books) that could be seen as excessive.
    But Zander… hoo boy <3

  10. Elva says:

Just read the Getaway girl and loved it despite the “gaaah – just talk to each other” frustration. Likable h and H, steamy sex and after all the jilted bride romances I’ve read, a jilted groom was refreshing 🙂

  11. PamG says:

Also loved Rise, loved series, hell love Karina Bliss.
