Historical Romances on Sale

  • Damsel in Distress

Damsel in Distress by Heather Graham

Damsel in Distress by Heather Graham is $1.99 at Amazon! This historical romance has a heroine who is a maiden by day, and a bandit by night. This is a reprint of the same book under Graham’s other pen name, Shannon Drake, just in case the book sounded familiar to anyone. Some readers though there was way too much going on, while others loved the sense of adventure.

In Robin Hood’s forest, the bandit’s silver sword belongs to Lady Greensleeves

Countess Katherine de Montrain is not your typical lady. Hunting alongside her father since she was a child, she is quick with a bow and sword and knows the forest well—but hides this expertise from everyone around her.

Years later, Kat finds herself a prized maiden in the court of Richard the Lionheart. As she resists the unwelcome advances of the crusader Damian Mountjoy, she relishes her secret life as a bandit who fights in the company of Robin Hood. There she is known as Lady Greensleeves: a crack shot, keen tracker, and champion of the oppressed. But passion is about to grip her heart, and love is never simple in the forest, where deception is the only way to survive.

  • The Importance of Being Scandalous

The Importance of Being Scandalous by Kimberly Bell

The Importance of Being Scandalous by Kimberly Bell is 99c! This is a historical friends to lovers romance and a heroine who is trying to scare off her arranged fiancé. Readers really loved the heroine in this one, though some found the story dragged at times. Have you read this one?

A horse race in trousers on Rotten Row. Visiting a gaming hall in a dress that would make her mother faint. Sneaking an invitation to a masquerade ball attended by only the wickedest, most debauched members of society…

None of these things are scaring off bookish but strong-willed Amelia Bishop’s stuffy, egotistical fiancé.

The only thing left is to entice childhood friend Nicholas Wakefield into a truly engagement-ending scandal. The Wakefields are the height of propriety, and Nicholas’s parents have made it clear a wife from the neighboring Bishop family would be unacceptable…

But Nicholas would give up his family and his fortune if Amelia would ever see him as more than just a childhood friend. He’ll go along with her scheme, even if it means ruining them both, because he’s got a plan that will change her mind about him being merely the boy next door.

  • One Night with the Laird

One Night with the Laird by Nicola Cornrick

    UPDATE: Deal no longer valid.

One Night with the Laird by Nicola Cornick is $2.99 at Amazon and Barnes & Noble! The hero and heroine have had relations in the past and now the heroine needs the hero’s help, so there’s a second chance element. Readers say the sexytimes have a hint of BDSM to them (restraints), but that the villain was rather obvious.

    A wicked attraction!

Fashionable society widow Lady Mairi MacLeod cannot understand the dark passion that binds her to Jack Rutherford. He is everything she dislikes in a man, rakish, arrogant and charming, and she would prefer to forget the night of wicked passion that she spent in his arms.

But when Mairi is threatened by a blackmailer, Jack is the only man who can protect her. As they work together to uncover where the danger lies, their passion reignites. Little by little, the masks they wear burn away, and their most private secrets come to light…

There is an interesting rant going on today under another post, but one of the titles here launches me into my own silent rant any time I see it. in title or description. Do not expect me to read a book where the male lead wants to / feels necessary to / has no choice but to / can’t wait to TAME the heroine.

I suppose Shakespeare is to blame, but that was how many hundred years ago?!

  2. Thank you so much for featuring Seven Rogues at Christmas on your blog. That was so very nice 🙂 In regards to the “Tame” reference from the OP, in my story, my hero’es last name is “Tame” which is why I played off his name in the title of my piece 🙂 It has nothing to do with a heroine being tamed 🙂

“A Christmas Gone Perfectly Wrong” by Cecelia Grant is free!

  4. LML says:

@Sandra Sookoo. With respect to your story, I apologize for my lightening-quick assumption.

  5. @LML Thank you so much for that 🙂 I appreciate it!

(sticking this here because no sale post on Fridays)

For 99 pennies, you can have The Djinn Falls in Love and Other Stories, an anthology with (deep breath) Neil Gaiman, Nnedi Okorafor, Amal El-Mohtar, Catherine Faris King, Claire North, E.J. Swift, Hermes (trans. Robin Moger), Jamal Majoub, James Smythe, J.Y. Yang, Kamila Shamsie, Kirsty Logan, K.J. Parker, Kuzhali Manickavel, Maria Dahvana Headley, Monica Byrne, Nada Adel Sobhi, Saad Hossein, Sami Shah, Sophia Al-Maria and Usman Malik.

  7. Mona says:

Not quite on sale but a bargain is Rose Lerner’s “In for a Penny” at $4.99. It is most excellent (marriage of convenience, reformed hero, rundown estate). It moves slow but then the characters feel a lot more real (heroine is new money and not sure she wants to be a countess, hero takes time to reform! self reflection! addresses social issues!)
