A Brief Service Announcement!

First of all: only eight and a half more hours to get those entries in for the contest, my pretties! Get your entries in before 10 p.m. PDT tonight. Or else

Second: The Very Tall Husband is now reading Seize the Fire! MWAHAHAHAHA. OK, he hasn’t started yet, I gave him the book just a short while ago (I nearly passed out when he asked “So what’s that romance novel you wanted me to read?”) and he’s now busy surfing Automotive Insanity at the Something Awful Forums, so God knows when he’s going to come up for air. But still! He’s going to be reading a romance novel! Yay! I’ll even see if I can wrangle a review from him, or even just a jumble of impressions, what he liked and didn’t like about the book, etc.

Third: Uh, no third, really, other than HOLY SHIT I need to finish watching the fourth season of Futurama that I loaned from the library because it’s four days overdue. Wendy Super-Librarian, please don’t hate me.

Later, my Peepish peeps, and Ra willing, I’ll have the third part of the Mr. Impossible Thumbnail Theater up by tonight.

Oh my goodness. Your husband’s an SA goon, too. I should have known. *g*

I’ve read TWO romance novels aloud to mine. Judith Ivory’s BEAST and Kinsale’s FOR MY LADY’S HEART. We’ve been going through LORD OF SCOUNDRELS at a snail’s pace—he’s not really digging that one. 😉

The thing I noticed, though, is that he’s a lot less accepting of heroines being bitchy than heroes being assholes. I’ve been calling him a sexist bastard ever since I realized that…

  2. Candy says:

I’m a goon too. I mostly lurk, though, unless somebody’s doing something exceptionally stupid to a cat on Pet Island, then I come out of the woodwork and hand the smackdown.

You’ve read romance novels out loud to your husband? That’s dedication. I’m not surprised about your husband’s opinion—lots of women are much more forgiving of the hero than the heroine too. What’d he think of Melanthe?? I mean, talk about an assertive lady…. I’m really curious to see what the VTH thinks of Sheridan and Olympia.

  3. Emma says:

I’m not a goon. But I do hear all the stories…

I think he liked Melanthe well enough. He was less impressed with the heroine in BEAST. He actually called her a bitch, hehehe

  4. Emma says:

Okay, expanding on that last statement. I think he felt that Melanthe had reason to be a bitch—that is, self-defense, because her life was in danger. But he thought the heroine in the Ivory book was just selfish and had no reason for her behavior. And nevermind that the hero was hardly an angel himself.

I know a lot of women have the same attitude about romance heroes and heroines, and I just don’t get it. I really don’t! Me loves a bitchy heroine. *g*

  5. Wendy says:

LOL – really Candy, it’s OK that your DVD is overdue.  Just don’t throw a big hissy fit at the library in order to try to get out of paying the overdue fine 😉

  6. Kate says:

We had weekend guests because husband had a birthday. It’s his fault I never got around to this contest. Inconsiderate bastard—I’m leaving him.

  7. Candy says:

As you rightly should, Kate. Smart Bitches uber alles!

But for shits n giggles, post a paragraph anyway. I’m REALLY curious as to a) which title(s) you’ll pick, and b) what havoc you shall wreak.

  8. Sarah says:

I’m all for shits n’giggles. As a matter of fact, perhaps Candy and I should attempt to master a title and wrestle it into a paragraph, sometime later this week.

Right now Candy is staring at her monitor thinking, “Bitch, please! I have enough to do! Quit makin’ up crap for me to do!”

  9. Kate says:

After reading those awesome entries, I’m intimidated. I’d started a bit about the Moist Highwayman and how he ruined leather saddles and left puddles at scenes of crime but . . .
