Welcome back to Cover Awe! Cover design by Farjana Yasmin Amanda: I love the Lisa Frank of it all. Sarah: I remain fascinated by the specific color palette of romance covers, and the upper corner/lower corner placement of characters and things relevant to the plot, but in this case, I LOVE THE DOGS SO MUCH MY GOSH. Poodles all day! Cover art by Alex M. Amanda: I love the colors and blushing and chaos. Sarah: … Continue reading Cover Awe: Bright Colors and Spookiness→

Welcome back to a new week of new releases! We’ve switched Hide Your Wallet to a weekly basis in an effort to cover more books in a more digestible format. There’s some scifi, fantasy, horror, and even non-fiction. Also, a lot of interesting covers! Which books do you want to pick up or put on hold this week? Let us know in the comments!
RECOMMENDED: The Secret Lives of Country Gentleman by KJ Charles is $1.99! I’m hoping this isn’t a leftover KDD from yesterday. Carrie gave this one a B+:
The strengths of this book are in the balancing of conflict with humor and optimism, the rich characterizations, and the portrayal of life on the marsh, as well as a romance between two opposites. It’s entertaining, exciting, and immersive. While I wanted a little more from the ending, I enjoyed this book overall!
Radiance by Grace Draven is $1.99! This was a previous book club pick on the site and a fantasy romance. I remember really liking this one, especially the beginning dynamics between the hero and heroine. Have you read it?
RECOMMENDED: Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir is $1.99. AJ and I did a lot of squeeing about this one on a podcast episode. Will you understand what’s going on? Probably not, but you’ll have a lot of fun being clueless. I also gave it a B+:
Gideon the Ninth is a unique and bloody bananapants book, and I do think it’s worth a reader’s curiosity. Gideon is an unforgettable protagonist.
Overall, I really enjoyed this story. I found it to be feminist and sexy, loving and funny. It was the book I had no idea I needed and it comforted me right down to my toes. I absolutely recommend this as a holiday de-stressor and I am hoping that there is a more inclusive sequel for some of the supporting characters.
Hit Me With Your Best Scot by Suzanne Enoch is $2.49 at Amazon and $2.99 elsewhere! This is the third book in the Wild Wicked Highlanders series. I think these historical covers are pretty dreamy, but I’ve never read a single book by this author. Have you? Thoughts?
RECOMMENDED: The Bride by Julie Garwood is $1.99! This is one of my favorite historical romances and was one of my gateway reads to the genre, if you’ve listened to the What Made Us Romance Readers podcast episode. Kiki is also on a Julie Garwood kick, per out recent Whatcha Reading post.
One to Watch by Kate Stayman-London is $2.99! This has been mentioned a couple times on the site in things like Hide Your Wallet and podcast episodes. I feel like I’ve heard mixed things about this one, but do take note that the heroine’s weight seems to play a big factor in the narrative.
Hero in the Highlands by Suzanne Enoch is $2.99! This is the first book in the No Ordinary Hero series and has an enemies-to-lovers element. Some readers thought the romance felt forced, while others loved Enoch’s writing. Have you read this?
