All in all, this book was a fun romp. There were some truly wild moments of alien biology I won’t spoil, but they were more amusing than horrific. Roland and Vanessa’s tension and chemistry was truly delicious. Their physical relationship was a bit of a slow burn but well worth the wait.
Happy Tuesday, everyone! It’s our last release week for May and then onto to June. How are we already in June?! We’re capping off the month with a few contemporaries, a romantic suspense, historical romance, and some superheroes. What new releases are on your list this week? Drop ’em in the comments!
We think readers who like their romances rooted in real history, who also appreciate hopeful historical stories that acknowledge the discrimination characters had to face, might like this. The pacing and the other issues we mentioned made this fall a bit short.
This week, the New York Times published a holiday romance round up I wrote, and I am SO proud of it, y’all. Extreme chuff. Maximum delight. All the things. And the title is cute! Holiday Romance Novels to Make Your December Merry and Bright! (Gift link.) I wanted to focus on 2024 holiday romances – there are, well, quite a few – and include as many cultures, holidays, observances, and perspectives as possible. I’m honestly … Continue reading A NYT Holiday Romance Roundup→
You Had Me at Hola by Alexis Daria is $1.99! We mentioned this in previous Hide Your Wallet posts and it was recommended on a couple podcasts. We were all very excited for it and look at that dang cover! Apologies if this is a deal leftover from the weekend.
The Last Tale of the Flower Bride by Roshani Chokshi is $1.99! I believe this is Chokshi’s full-length adult debut. It’s a Gothic fantasy and it’s had a cover redesign since it’s release. I think I prefer the the original.
RECOMMENDED: Business or Pleasure by Rachel Lynn Solomon is $1.99! Apologies if this is a leftover deal from the weekend. Elyse reviewed this one and gave it an A:
Business or Pleasure is a sex-positive, low-conflict celebrity rom com that worked out great for me. I think a lot of readers will enjoy this book (especially the sex positivity!), but it won’t work for anyone looking for angst.
A Restless Truth by Freya Marske is $2.99! This one was mentioned in a Hide Your Wallet and I’ve heard nothing but good things. This is the second book in the Last Binding series, which has been favorably mentioned on the site and in the comments.
PODCAST RECOMMENDED: Take the Lead by Alexis Daria is $2.99! This is a contemporary romance that takes place on a dancing competition TV show. There’s also a gruff hero! If those things haven’t convinced you yet, Sonali Dev also recommended it on a previous podcast episode. This one has a new cover and new ISBN, which not sure what that means if you bought the old edition. Does it just disappear from your Kindle?

Love on the Brain by Ali Hazelwood is $4.99! I feel like I rarely see Hazelwood’s books on sale and honestly, anyone who wanted a copy probably bought this one on release day. However, if you wanted to give this one a try without waiting for a library hold to come in, this can be yours for less than $5.
