581. Death, Candy Corn, and Witches with Amanda and Maria Vale

Molly Molloy & the Angel of Death
A | BN | K
Several years ago, Amanda had coffee with Maria Vale at a conference, and Maria mentioned a book she was working on that sounded really cool.

And now, Molly Molloy and the Angel of Death is available to read! So we got together to talk about the book, what it’s like to write something that feels risky, different, and comes with warnings about HEA-expectations.

This becomes a conversation about the HEA, how it works, and how it is interpreted by different readers. What are your expectations for an HEA?

  1. Kate says:

Pushing Daisies is streaming on Max or available for purchase on Prime. My mom and I were obsessed with it when it was on originally.

  2. Kareni says:

Well, that was a fun episode, so thank you, Sarah, Amanda, and Maria! I have Molly Molloy and the Angel of Death on my wishlist and look forward to reading it.

  3. DiscoDollyDeb says:

Imho, the best book with all the trappings of a traditional romance (age-gap, grumpy-sunshine) but did NOT have an HEA (the whole book is essentially the HFN) is Taylor Fitzpatrick’s m/m hockey book THROWN OFF THE ICE. Oddly—even knowing the ending is not “happy”—the book is one of my favorite comfort rereads. Highly recommended—even without an HEA.

  4. Teresa says:

I finally read this book and could not put it down. It was so good. What a beautiful love story and yes in my opinion it is a romance. I didn’t know the ending heading into it other than the author’s introduction. I appreciate an author taking risks and trusting the reader. So good and so funny.
