The Kingmaker
The Kingmaker by Kennedy Ryan is $2.24 at Amazon and $2.99 elsewhere! If you’ve been looking to try out Ryan’s steamy, angsty contemporaries, this isn’t a bad deal This is the first book in the series and I believe the first book has a bit of a cliffhanger.
From beloved, RITA-award-winning author Kennedy Ryan comes the first in her gripping All the King’s Men duology.
In a world of haves and have-nots, Maxim Cade’s family and their oil empire have it all…and he wants nothing to do with it. At odds with his mogul father, he’s determined to build his own empire, even if it means traveling far from home, painted as the black sheep.
Lennix Hunter is the exception to every one of Maxim’s rules. At a protest for the oil pipeline that threatens to mar her ancestral land forever, they meet in a flurry of stars and sparks, and that one moment changes everything. But Maxim’s family is the one stealing from hers, and his father is the man she hates most. He has to lie in order to have her once, and despite the truth, he’ll do anything to keep her.
Even though Lennix tries to hate Maxim, too, their hearts are pointed in the same direction. The inexorable pull between them, across miles and years, will not be denied.
And neither will Maxim.

Next Year in Havana
Next Year in Havana by Chanel Cleeton is $3.99! This book has dual timelines: 2017 Miami and 1958 Havana and was mentioned in a Rec League for Dual Timeline books. Have you read this one?
After the death of her beloved grandmother, a Cuban-American woman travels to Havana, where she discovers the roots of her identity–and unearths a family secret hidden since the revolution…
Havana, 1958. The daughter of a sugar baron, nineteen-year-old Elisa Perez is part of Cuba’s high society, where she is largely sheltered from the country’s growing political unrest–until she embarks on a clandestine affair with a passionate revolutionary…
Miami, 2017. Freelance writer Marisol Ferrera grew up hearing romantic stories of Cuba from her late grandmother Elisa, who was forced to flee with her family during the revolution. Elisa’s last wish was for Marisol to scatter her ashes in the country of her birth.
Arriving in Havana, Marisol comes face-to-face with the contrast of Cuba’s tropical, timeless beauty and its perilous political climate. When more family history comes to light and Marisol finds herself attracted to a man with secrets of his own, she’ll need the lessons of her grandmother’s past to help her understand the true meaning of courage.

Women of Good Fortune
Women of Good Fortune by Sophie Wan is $2.99! I mentioned this in a previous Hide Your Wallet earlier this year. It was also recently mentioned in an “end of the year” podcast episode.
Set against a high-society Shanghai wedding, a heartfelt, funny, dazzling novel about a reluctant bride and her two best friends, each with their own motives and fed up with the way society treats women, who forge a plan to steal all the gift money on the big day
Lulu has always been taught that money is the ticket to a good life. So, when Shanghai’s most eligible bachelor surprises her with a proposal, the only acceptable answer is yes, even if the voice inside her head is saying no. His family’s fortune would solve all her parents’ financial woes, but Lulu isn’t in love or ready for marriage.
The only people she can confide in are her two best friends: career-minded Rina, who is tired of being passed over for promotion as her biological clock ticks away; and Jane, a sharp-tongued, luxury-chasing housewife desperate to divorce her husband and trade up. Each of them desires something different: freedom, time, beauty. None of them can get it without money.
Lulu’s wedding is their golden opportunity. The social event of the season, it means more than enough cash gifts to transform the women’s lives. To steal the money on the big day, all they’ll need is a trustworthy crew and a brilliant plan. But as the plot grows increasingly complicated and relationships are caught in the cross fire, the women are forced to face that having it all might come at a steep price…

Audible’s having an amazing sale on the Murderbot audiobooks for the next few days. If you’re an Audible member and you have the Kindle book (which I grant is a lot of ifs!), the Kevin R. Free-narrated novellas are under $1.50 and System Collapse is $4.99. The dramatized versions are close to the same price.
$.99:
– Berserker Devotion (Norse Warrior Protectors Book 4) by Asa Maria Bradley
In the UK today THE MINISTRY OF TIME by Kaliane Bradley (sci-fi romance with a time-travel element) is £0.99.
Amy Lane is one of my favorite mm authors and Christmas Kitsch was adorable! Well worth 99 cents. Another of hers – Late for Christmas – is also .99 and very cute too (side note that characters crochet in this one, and there were comments about yarn buying which I appreciated).
Anyone have thoughts on THE KINGMAKER? I liked Ryan’s LONG SHOT, but it was extremely angsty and there was a lot of abuse, so I haven’t re-read it or read anything else in the series. It sounds like all Ryan’s books are really long on angst?
